    The Blake Hotel - Bathroom

    The Blake Hotel

We spent Saturday night over Thanksgiving weekend here…read more The hotel is fine and in a good location. We were disappointed by the lack of service / desire for guests to have a good experience. Upon checking in at around 8:30pm we were looking forward to having a drink and maybe dessert. The website says that restaurant & bar are open until 9 weekdays and 10pm on Saturday. We were told that the bar & restaurant in lobby looked like it wanted to close and in fact we're closing. We were given the option to leave our bags at desk and go over. Not have bags brought to room, not to get settled & come back down. When we got to the floor we were staying on there was a cool enclosed rooftop bar. My daughter asked how late they would be open and was told "we just closed". When she asked what the hours were they just said well it is slow so we closed. A city hotel, holiday weekend one would expect an option to settle in a nice space and relax without heading out. I think we would be more likely to try the graduate hotel during our next trip to New Haven. A little customer service goes a long way.

She recognized I was a hot mess and took care of everything quickly and effortlessly. My room was modern, clean and very comfortable. What more could a weary traveler want?

We opted for the inn side rather than the deck side, because the inn side has more entree options. We each opted for our own appetizers. Caprese salad, clam chowder and shrimp cocktail were ordered. Everyone enjoyed their appetizers very much. I had the clam chowder. It was rich, creamy and delicious. The clams were very tender and the chowder was loaded with clams and potatoes. For entrees, most of us opted for the hot lobster roll. It was overflowing with lobster and was accompanied by drawn butter, crisp fresh fries and a very tasty coleslaw. One of my friend opted for the sea bass. The presentation was beautiful and she said it was fresh, light and delicious. All of our cocktails were excellent too. I also must be sure to give credit to the wait staff. They were very attentive and I felt comfortable the entire time, as they were following all the guidance provided by the state. It was nice to relax and reconnect, in person, with my friends while enjoying a beautiful sunset. Such a gorgeous view from the deck! Thank you, Amarante's. We will be back and I'll be sure to tell my friends and family about our great experience.

A 5-star private social club in the Platinum Clubs of America, it is situated on Whitney Avenue near the Yale University campus, and two blocks from Ingalls Rink and State Street (home to Modern Apizza, our favorite in the Pizza Capital of the World). The New Haven Lawn Club offers five comfortable, spacious overnight guest rooms and one suite, a main dining room seating 200, and a grand ballroom seating 300 that was being used for a wedding reception the night we stayed there. The fitness center and four squash courts are open 24x7. Outdoors, there is a pool, toddler pool, eight Hart-tru tennis courts, two paddle courts and a playground. Guests enjoy free parking and wifi. We enjoyed pre-game cocktails in the bar off the Grill Room, accommodating 100, where lunch and dinner are served Wednesday-Saturday, and where seasonal Sunday brunch and supper are available. A unique feature of the club is art exhibits hung in the rotunda outside the Grill Room. Rebuilt in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original two years earlier, the clubhouse was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It also is designated A New Haven Landmark by the New Haven Preservation Trust.
