Horrible experience and not inclusive. My 6 year old daughter was excited to attend dance this year. She is on the spectrum but she was very motivated to learn. She only attended the class 3 times before they called me to tell me they want her to go to the "baby" class instead. This would be pairing her with 3 year olds and she is almost 7. I'm very disappointed with my experience there. They care more about the recital than actually teaching them the basic fundamentals. The classes are extremely full and rushed. They bunch the competition kids together with all the beginners and get impatient if the beginners aren't up to their standard. read more

Both my son and daughter are enrolled here. My son does hip hop and my daughter does the tumbling class. The studio has been amazing. My kids love coming here ( so much my daughter comes to just hang out while her friend is in other classes). My son was very nervous to try dance but has loved every second of it. read more

I had my two daughters enrolled in this dance studio for the fall/winter,My granddaughter also attended . There were so many students in the class that they had to separate it in two sections and have one half sit down and take turns. After the third class my daughter received a call from them stating that they think she would be better in the earlier class which is ages 3/4.They changed their narrative to they think she just isn't having fun in class, which they never even spoke to her about it. My granddaughter is 6 and on the spectrum, granted she followed directions and didn't mess around in class. This would have devastated her ,and made her feel embarrassed. They were told in the beginning that she was on the spectrum, this studio is not inclusive. Instead of saying sorry, they just keep gaslighting my daughter saying she's wrong. After having our review on Facebook they have now blocked us, so we don't have a voice. read more

My girlfriend and I tried to enroll her daughter in classes there. However, the woman we spoke to could not have been ruder or more condescending. After literally arguing with the woman for quite some time, she then proceeded to tell us we owed her payments for classes my soon to be stepdaughter were never going to attend, which we told her was the case upon our initial phone interview. Extremely rude, extremely condescending, extremely disrespectful, and absolutely high-falootin' is only the tip of the iceberg of the absolute litany of adjectives I would use to describe our experience with this studio. I do not recommend. I suggest finding another studio. This woman should not be allowed around your children. read more

Absolutely amazing studio!! I was hesitant to come here after hearing bad reviews from friends but I'm actually kicking myself for not having my daughter start sooner! The owners are pleasant and super accommodating! All the teachers are skilled and really work well with all the kids. We even audition for the competition teams and made it. This studio has become our second home and second family. They really care about the kids here. read more

My feeling about this company is that they nickel and dime you to the extreme. You end up paying way too much for the mediocre-poor quality you get, and the only decent teacher there is leaving. The classes were $40/mo which doesn't seem so bad to me, but after you add in the cost of the recital outfit, the professional photographs, the finale shirt, the tickets to the recitals (yes they do two, so they expect you to pay $10/person both times...with NO FREE TICKET FOR EITHER PARENT ...not even one), $30 for a video of the recital, the $2 charge for a pathetic program that should be free... it just gets ridiculous. They blocked off the moms who were helping behind the scenes from seeing the performance from an easy entrance, and made us walk around the building to catch a quick glimpse of the dance, then we had to rush back and sit in the back again until it was over. There was no video taping allowed during the recital, and they made you pay $30 for a "professional" video. When you have a 3 year old trying out ballet...this just gets insane. I liked the teacher my daughter had, Kelley, but every other teacher there seems incompetent based on the clear performance distinction during the recital, between classes taught by Kelley, and the other classes. Especially with Kelley leaving, I definitely will NOT be re-enrolling my daughter here, and am very sad about it since there seems to be no other local ballet studio... read more

I honestly enjoy this studio. My only complaint is I wish my child had more then one day for that specific class. But the teachers are great the front desk staff is awesome Shannon is a great teacher who has tons of experience. A lot of people have such negative to say but realisticly dance isn't a cheap sport/activity. If anyone has something to say compare and contrast. And go else where. My child enjoys being here they are good with her and she is learning and that's what matters. Its not a washed up studio where they have so many kids they don't know me or my child they know enough to cater to her and her needs. I would highly recommend this studio. read more

Classes for my 3 year old were standard average price I think, but they really squeeze every drop out of you for costumes, pics, and recitals. If the day of your class falls in a school holiday, there is no class and also NO prorated price for less classes that month. My daughter participated in a fall semester class, we were charged for the month of December even though there were NO classes held during the entire month besides one practice. When I asked the girl at the front desk about it, she said we should get a refund. Nothing happened and I asked her again a month or 2 later and she said, "No, I never said that." I was deployed through my daughters first recital work up and my wife had ( what seemed to me ) tall tales and exaggerated stories. Anyhow, I came back and took the reins and let me tell you. She wasn't exaggerating at all and actually only telling me less than what was really going on so I wouldn't flip out. The 80 dollars a month for two classes at three years old is just rediculous however, that's the price you have to shell out when there isn't anyone else around. So I thought what else can be next. Well the cost for dance outfits that my daughter can't fit in becuase it requires tailoring which the amount we paid doesn't account for. So then the next thing is the studio being closed on the hoilidays however not making the day up nor offering a prorated amount for loss of the day. This has happened twice since the start of this season (Jan 2012) with no rhyme or reason. Next is the staff... There is one particular young lady who works the front desk who oversees the payments and what not. I've yet to be greeted by anything other than, your payment for the month is due. How would you like pay it? Can I get a hey, hi, or even a f*ck you? Anyhow, then there is the owner of this racketeering business. I've seen her about half of once and even then it was in her vehicle not in the studio. I'm a big fan of looking the part and some of these instructors need to partake in their own classes and drop a few leotard sizes. I almost died laughing watching an instructor do something and witness her core give out on her and made for an awkward landing. Extremely funny. Then there is one young lady who I will name. I believe its Kelly. She's an awesome young lady, charismatic, and seems to know what's going on. She's good with the little ones and ive seen her mix it in with the older ones as well. Waters from the local supermarket will run one one full dollar as if they're not already squeezing enough out of you. They used to offer these old school juices for half a dollar however since gas went up I don't see them coming in any longer. I can't tell you the last time the studio.was painted, floors swept, mopped, and buffed, or the bathrooms maintained. The seats are super beyond uncomfortable, and participation from parents is null null and void. If you're a parent and you're reading this and you plan to enroll your child please don't use this as a daycare. I hate being the only parent there seeing your child's face frown when I'm there for my daughter and what not, providing snacks and drinks. Be there for your children please. They love just having you within arms length. However, you'll do what you choose. Since this is the only spot with fifty miles its gotta do the job however, I've seen and been to other studios and they in no way, shape, or form. Do yourself a favor and watch the instructors and take your child home and mimic what they do on the many off days you'll have between these once a week classes which is another downfall to this place. If you're an instructor here, staff, or the like and do not appreciate my rating, come see me, and talk to me so we can get things straightened out so everyone can be happy. read more

My daughters have been dancing here since it's opening. In fact, they danced with Shannon when she was at the Hi Desert Playhouse. My girls have learned bellydancing, jazz, hip hop, swing, thrash jazz, and polynesian. Classes change based on the strengths of the instructors. Being this is a small business in a rural community, dance instructors tend to come and go. However, the owner, Shannon Lamoreux is a constant. Both of my girls dance competitively and have grown as performers. They have also learned how to handle pressure, be responsible, and have confidence. The studio really has a two prong approach. One is the competition teams; the other is standard dance classes. Speaking for the competition teams, if you have a child who wishes to perform and compete, then Starstruck is for you. Shannon has years of competitive dance experience and my children have won several titles under her direction. Yes, dance is expensive. There are costumes, shoes, tights, etc. to purchase. There are entry fees and transportation costs. But, it's worth it to watch your children express themselves and enjoy dance. As for the general classes, it's true that several of the instructors are young, but they have danced for years and are supervised by Shannon. However, Shannon is always recruiting dance teachers to bring the best the area has to her students. The studio is a business and of course can always improve. For example, this summer new spring floors are going in. This past year, Shannon hired a receptionist so that customers could speak to someone in a more timely manner ... prior to that change, the teachers were only available between classes. Improvements are always being made and Shannon Lamoreux, the owner, is always wiling to listen to parents. I have had several conversations with Shannon over the years, and I have always found her willing to listen to my concerns and she works hard to keep her customers happy. read more

The prices are outrageous, especially for the lack of effort put in by the studio. Costumes for recitals are rediculously exprensive for cheap and tacky outfits. The studio is filthy and teachers come late and don't make up the time. It is an hour long class and only about 20 minutes is actually put into "teaching dance" and the rest is basically an instructor who is in highschool playing "red light green light" games. The owner, Shannon , is very rude, unless of course you are a man, then she will shamelessly flirt with any and all, while letting her kid run wild and unsupervised throughout the studio. My boyfriends niece took classes here and she didn't learn anything about dancing. I watched one of the lessons and there teachers did not give any real instruction to the girls. It was more of a half observed and highly unstructured kid playtime than anything else. I felt like tearing my ears off and blending them into a fine mush when I heard how much they were charging too. read more

This studio is dishonest about how much their dance team costs. When my grandaughter signed up they said they would raise most of the money for the dance team stuff. I have paid over $1000 in 4 months and my son has paid a lot also. They are just not honest about how they do business. I gave them my credit card and told them they could charge a specific amount one time. They charged my card twice more and I had to cancel the card to make them stop. I hope my grandaughter does not want to be on their team again! They use the kids to suck money out of the parents and grandparents. read more

Should have listened to the first review. The studio owners are never around. here is my review of the studio classes they offer on base. So I figured I would let every one know about Star Struck Dance Studio in Yucca Valley that offers classes at the Community center on base. They Suck. Don't waste your money. I knew from the first day that this studio was unorganized. But being so convenient I figured I would give it a try. We stuck it out till todays recital. Lets start with costumes. They showed us what we were getting and come the day to get our outfits they changed our childs costumes with out the dance teachers knowledge.Then photo day- They could have warned us on photo day that the studio floors would make the little 4 year olds white tights black, two they could have let the dancers who have another costume to change in to go first. Three the studio owner should have been there to help address issues. Dress rehearsal they didn't give the teachers enough time to line the children up on stage. So some kids were put in the back and not able to be seen. (this is the only day you are allowed to record your child) No video cameras allowed at the recital. Recital day they divided up the children by acts. They had 3-4 year olds running between two rooms to change. Not enough staff back stage to watch the children. When asked what am i doing to help I was told weren't you here last year. To my reply no cause if it was like this then I would have stopped and dropped out. You also have to pay to watch your own child preform in the recital. Then the photos and dvd you ordered takes up to eight weeks. Over all this studio is not organized and the owner is not helpful at all. They just out right suck. If you are looking for a good studio you have more options. The rec center out in town. Willow tree dance studio(by Dennys) Or Brilliant dance in Joshua tree. All the places I listed are about $20 cheaper. Hope this helps. Just don't waste your money. read more

This studio is a great place to dance at. They definitely have the latest in dance curriculum/ style/ classes and go beyond the typical intermediate level that you often find. The staff are interested in making class enjoyable for the kids. I find that my child is learning new things each week, instead of constantly learning the same stuff over and over again. I have been bringing my 2 kids here for several years now. There are lots of programs you could enroll in here at the studio, especially if you want to compete, go to dance camp, or perform. I see the students here in the paper often and achieving a lot of different accomplishments in dance. I also like the new leveling pyramid that challenges students to master their skills and feel accomplished! If you live in Yucca Valley or nearby, sign your kids up! Don't listen to these "haters" on yelp. Yes, dance costs money, but your are investing in your child learning a skill.....and a great skill at that! If you look at other studios, most classes run 1 time per week. That is absolutely normal in the dance world. Star Struck offers many different classes throughout the week and has many levels to choose from! There is a variety of the different dance disciplines to help dancers of all levels. Like I said before, my kids aren't learning the same old stuff....that is a waste of money! They are being challenged and love coming here! I also feel that if people like to complain on yelp, it is cowardly. Why not approach the business owner first, and speak to them in person to address your issues/concerns. I personally know this owner, who is fabulous! She is one of the hardest working women I have ever met! I am most certain that any issues/concerns that I have EVER had, I had discussed them with her, and she listened and immediately took action. In her defense, she is a full time high school teacher, a full time mom, cheerleading coach, dance coach, and business owner. With a lot on her plate, she loves dance so much and coaching others and these hurtful comments are not fair. So, trust me...Star Struck is awesome. Check it out!...and if you have a complaint, try to address it first. I am sure most business owners around the country would really appreciate that!
