City Perk Coffeehouse is a welcome additional to an area that doesn't have many restaurant choices…read more I was thrilled to discovery this locally owned and operated coffee shop on one of our recent visits to to Eastern Kentucky. They offer coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos, with tons of syrup flavors to choose from. They also have a hot chocolate bar with tons of flavors including s'mores, Reese's, and cookies and cream. They offer small treats like cookies, Rice Krispy treats, and cupcakes; as well as sandwiches and sides. The space is is bright and perky, featuring local art on their walls. If you're in the area and looking for a coffee, breakfast, or lunch stop I think City Perk Coffeehouse is a great spot to check out!

The cafe itself straddles a stream that was likely used for water power. They had pastry options and some diner style hot breakfast, but I wasn't blown away by these options and (correctly) anticipated that I might prefer my food options on the other side of the mountains. However, their drink selection was quite robust for a place in a pretty rural location. I ordered a coal dust which was a mix of white and dark chocolate; I was a bit miffed that the menu didn't make it clear that it was actually a coffee drink as it could just as well have been pure hot chocolate. However, the flavor combination was ultimately successful for me. Travelers should certainly consider stopping in this location to take a look around, and why not pick up a beverage?
