I'd like to meet the designer who thought this would sit well a block away from a Starbucks and a Tim's, not to mention the dozen coffee shops inside Square One as it is. I would have never found this place were it not for the fact that I was attending a show nearby at the LAC and wanted a quick coffee and snack. I made my way over here and found the experience to be pleasant, though the rough edges are definitely showing. The first thing I noticed was the service. As others have said, the servers are a bit aloof but cordial. I ordered an Orange Spice tea and a slice of banana loaf, and one of them wished me goodbye and seemed to be expecting me to leave the counter while the other woman was getting my food. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, but the service is decent enough. I was surprised by the amount of seating tucked away in the place (you definitely can't see it all from outside), but the padded seats I perched on were fraying and had definitely seen better days. Couple that with the existing power outlet problem (did no one bother to rewire/renovate when they opened this place? Did no one expect that?), and you can see why this place only has a middle-of-the-road rating. That said, the tea's solid (can't really screw that up) and the loaf was fine. This Second Cup is fine for what it is, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way for again, especially with so many other options in the area.

Went here with a coworker for the first time to get a nice coffee fix after work…read more It's your average Starbucks so service was good and we didn't have to wait long for our drinks. I always get the lightly sweetened chai tea latte with almond milk which never lets my tastebuds down. The table we sat at was quite dirty though and the floor could've used a mop due to the salt outside. Other than that all was good.

What does make this place stand out is that the staff here is exceptional. Super friendly and helpful! It's on the northwest corner of Midland and Ellesmere. Two Saturdays ago, I was driving up from running errands at Warden and Eglinton. I was thirsty. I needed a beverage. I decided to check out this cafe. If you are going southbound along Midland, it's a breeze to turn right to get to this Starbucks. I was going in the opposite direction. I ended up turning left to go into some business's parking lot, came right out, and then drove into the Starbucks drive-thru. There was a bit of a lineup. The wait wasn't horrible. I ordered a grande iced peach green tea. The woman on the other end was so nice and friendly. The way that she spoke made me think that she was an English major or an actress. Her phrasing and articulation were impressive, which I frankly don't expect from a barista at any cafe! I pulled up to the window and had this nice barista scan the barcode on my Starbucks app. I grabbed my drink out and she wished me a pleasant weekend. I reciprocated and drove away. I exited onto Ellesmere Road. I turned up Kennedy Road and headed home, sipping my drink the entire time. I loved iced peach green tea. It was perfect. It quenched my thirst. I was a happy camper. Although this cafe has odd entrance and exit setups, I had a great experience. If you are a public transit person, this cafe is steps away from Ellesmere station along the Scarborough LRT (Light Rapid Transit) line. I used to go through canisters of hot chocolate mix as if I expected an apocalypse to occur. I stopped going through them so quickly after I looked at how much sugar I was consuming. Instead, I treat myself to a hot chocolate here and there. I did a search and found this Second Cup that is close to the hotel where I am staying. Yay! The cafe is in a small plaza. I actually entered where cars should exit. You can't see the arrow at all on the pavement. I noticed it when I left. Oops! Parking is limited. There were two spots that were opposite each other. I pulled into one and backed into the other. I then walked into the cafe. It's cozy. I can see folks sitting here for hours, chatting with a friend, or working quietly on a laptop and occasionally sipping a beverage. I knew that it felt right the moment I walked in. I headed to the counter. I had a patient person help me with my order. I wanted two hot chocolates. I am not a Second Cup regular. I pulled out my phone and rattled off the two flavours that I wanted: candy cane and cinnamon roll. I asked for no whipped cream. Done! I paid using my debit card. I did the tap thing and I was good. There is a small table where you pick up your mobile order. I waited by the regular drink counter. It didn't take long for my drinks to be ready. I sprinkled cinnamon on my cinnamon roll hot chocolate. I topped my candy cane hot chocolate with crushed candy cane. Yep, that's how I roll! I thanked the man who helped with my order. He smiled and wished me a good evening. Here's the fun part. I managed to get both drink into my car with my usual iced black tea from Starbucks already there. Trying to carry three beverages without a tray can be done. I had an insulated bag in my car trunk that fits all three beverages in a row. I put them all in, carried them up to my hotel room, and nothing spilled out. My hot drinks were still hot. Yay! The candy cane hot chocolate was okay. It was heavy on the candy canes that I could barely taste the hot chocolate. I need to hold back on the crushed candy canes! I loved the cinnamon roll hot chocolate a lot more. Extra cinnamon on top of a cinnamon-flavoured hot chocolate is the best. I have found my drink of choice at Second Cup. It wasn't terribly sweet. It was perfect. The baked goods looked yummy. I had already eaten dinner and didn't feel like dessert, so I passed. This cafe also has Pinkberry frozen yogurt. I'll need to try them next time. If you live in this neighbourhood, I am envious of you. Walking over here for a drink after dinner or whenever seems wonderful to this suburban. (446)

The staff are generally cheerful, helpful, and most importantly for this franchise, never have any problems with accommodating anything I've ever had customized beyond what size and flavour off the billboard. (My biggest peeve with this chain was how they had "Short" versions of all their drinks, but did not post it as an option on their ordering billboard. I found that practice quite shameful but, since I've not ordered a regular short for a while, who knows, maybe that's not even an option anymore. *Note to Self: Buy a short regular brew coffee and find out ..) For that reason alone, I'd have rated 4 but since I didn't place a Short order, I'll not punish this one actual store's review. This is one of the locations that has a the prime real estate corner in a commercial tower, so you get the outdoor patio tables on a nice corner of Yonge Street. It's also quite spacious on the inside, so you have a real slew of options for the seating arrangement you might have preference for when you come in. I'll hope the Yelp pictures already posted for this store are adequate for an overall look at the place without actually going in since I don't tend to take photos for every review. Meantime, I've always had great service here and I've never found it unacceptably untidy or dirty. So long as their baristas and service staff keep up their part of the experience, this location's a great one in my Yelp book. :D

It was one of the best SBx that I've ever been to but I want to keep it a secret. High ceilings, and ample working space, including a nice communal wooden table - this was one of the better Coffice's I've been to. There's plenty of plugs every where. Even though there wasn't a lot of seating, I felt if crowded, it wouldn't feel teeny like the other ones in the area. Why, they opened up one so close to an established location beats me. (at Bathrust and Wilson) Free parking after 6pm and weekends on the street adjacent to it.
