Starbucks storefront from my less than pleasant experience
    Chris S.

Not happy campers. After traveling 2 weeks and visiting dozens of Starbucks across the country this has the most unhappy/unfriendly baristas. I got the feeling that they don't approve of those not from the area. As soon as I spoke in my native accent (Non southern drawl) that's when it started. I hope that my experience is an anomaly.

Its not the friendliest place but their service is impeccable and they get you in and out real fast. Management must hire a lot of introverts because they're not big on conversation eye contact but their service again is good their drinks are good! They have adequate seating inside and out and wi-fi of course is free.

Interior always filled with students studying.

Like this one, the one I go to, they never pay attention to the patio and open the umbrellas- seldom have the music on outside

Side note the walk up window was so cute. Immediately upon walking in I was in awe. The attention to detail in this shop was top tier design. The ladies working when we went were so sweet and very helpful. I also really love the swag that they have. I am kicking myself for not buying the denim hat! Now onto the coffee. I tried the Blueberry Crisp Latte. The notes of the blueberry were good. Not overpowering and just the right bit of top and bottom. I love to taste the flavor as a finishing note as well. My daughter had a Vanilla Frappe which she enjoyed. I definitely will return whenever I am in Knoxville.

The staff was super friendly, the inside was super clean, all the things you'd hope for in a coffee shop. It was also nice to not feel herded along like you would at a Starbucks or donut shops that happen to sell coffee. I cannot vouch for any other flavors yet, I need more time to really get into it - see you soon! Get here!

I ordered The Farmer, a chicken biscuit with cheese, bacon, and apple butter. The biscuit was warm and fresh, the bacon was crispy, and the chicken patty was quite substantial. The poor thing was drowning in apple butter though, which made it too wet (and too sweet). Even scraping some of it off it was already too soggy. A tad less sauce and it would be perfectly balanced. The smashbrowns had a nice crisp and I enjoyed the kick of the pepper jam. Also, big fan of the cute coffee bar. I could taste the hints of maple in the coffee. If I have to eat out for breakfast, Maple Street seems to be a good choice. And yes, this location is on Kingston Pike not Maple Street.

You order at the counter, grab a number, and find your own table, though most weren't clean when we arrived. We had the chicken and goat cheese biscuit, farmer biscuit, cappuccino, and toffee crunch latte. Drinks came out fairly quickly, but the food took about 30 to 40 minutes. Staff was sweet, just seemed overwhelmed. The food itself was good. The goat cheese and pepper jelly were a great combo, and I personally loved the apple butter, though my partner thought there was too much. Overall, good food if you have time to wait.

The matcha latte I had was delicate, sweet and frothy. The staff handled my milk allergy with ease and kindness. They serve Counter Culture coffee, a North Carolina roaster, also found in town at Old City Java and Wild Love, but nowhere I've seen in West Knox. There's natural light in the café enhanced with cool toned ceiling lights accompanied by minimalist pink and gold accents with natural wood features and a few fake plants. The music was mainly rap and R&B. Every seat has a table, though PPC doesn't offer much in the way of comfy seating, as furnishings are ikea-style chairs and metal stools. There are a couple outdoor tables for nice weather. I hope as this the Café establishes roots, we'll see more seasonal drink menus, comfier seating options, and more (real) greenery. Looking forward to trying more of their drink offerings and seeing what lies in store for them!

The bagels are light and chewy, not bready, and even the plain bagel has a great flavor. We find the celery salt and sometimes the everything bagels to be saltier than we enjoy, but your mileage may vary. The sesame, plain, jalapeño cheddar, pumpernickel, and honey wheat are awesome. The seasonal pumpkin bagel was excellent, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we get blueberry once they're in season. If you get a bagel sandwich, I'd recommend sticking with a plain bagel to let the filling shine. We usually get the Potchke delight (add avocado, it's worth it), and my husband loves the beef bacon. They have upgraded from egg patties to small folded omelettes in their breakfast sandwiches. They just rolled out mobile ordering at this location, and I did my first order today. Fridays are always very busy there, but my order was ready way before the time estimate, and they made my coffee fresh once I checked in with the lady at the pickup area. I was very impressed! They have been really good about making changes to improve wait times (like adding a second person taking orders with a handheld card reader and expanding next door to allow a designated line area), and mobile ordering is a game changer for me. The employees are always wonderful even though they are super busy and dealing with a lot of people. Everyone seems happy to be there, and I hope that's a reflection of the owners treating their people well. Yes, the prices may seem high for bagels, but in my opinion it's totally worth it. I'd rather have a stellar bagel once a month than grocery store bagels every week. (Now if only they would also serve their matzo ball soup and borscht at this location, my life would be complete!)
