I went in on Sunday, about 11:15, because a friend let me have a bite of her Pistachio Croissant. It was sooo good I wanted to get a few (4). Sadly there were only two left. As I looked at the wall menu I thought the sandwiches sounded good, and I wouldn't have to cook lunch. Well I then ordered 2 Club Houses to go. (My mistake time wise) Again... I was the ONLY customer/person there. I stood around for 30min and noticed the two front end girls were lightly wiping a counter and as my momma would say, "puttering about". Nothing was said to me still standing at the counter. Finally I said 'is anyone making my sandwiches?' One girl said yes, the other girl went to the back to check. The decor is nice, but with a sore foot I wasn't interested in decor, not to forget HH (hungry hubby) was waiting in the car that warm day. The sandwiches when I finally got home to eat them were large and well packed with meat & cheese. They were good. The croissants were really good. BUT waiting 45 (yes Forty-five) minutes for two sandwiches in an empty restaurant was crazy!

What is clear is that the quality remains firmly intact. The coffee is excellent--well-crafted, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Just as important, the atmosphere is warm and genuinely family-friendly, the kind of place that welcomes regulars, kids, and casual drop-ins without trying too hard to be trendy. Name changes can sometimes signal growing pains or reinvention, but in this case, the fundamentals are strong. Ugly Mug succeeds where it matters most: serving quality coffee in a comfortable, approachable setting that feels like a true local staple.

Immediately upon walking in I was in awe. The attention to detail in this shop was top tier design. The ladies working when we went were so sweet and very helpful. I also really love the swag that they have. I am kicking myself for not buying the denim hat! Now onto the coffee. I tried the Blueberry Crisp Latte. The notes of the blueberry were good. Not overpowering and just the right bit of top and bottom. I love to taste the flavor as a finishing note as well. My daughter had a Vanilla Frappe which she enjoyed. I definitely will return whenever I am in Knoxville.

The space is surprisingly large, with a beautiful, inviting interior and a really nice atmosphere. I had never tried fire-roasted coffee before. I usually order a plain latte or cappuccino because I like to truly taste the coffee and appreciate its boldness without added flavors. The coffee here had a distinct smoky flavor, which personally wasn't my preference, but I definitely appreciated how unique and different it was. My husband ordered a vanilla latte and loved it! The service was great. A very friendly young lady took the time to explain the different coffee options and helped us understand what makes their coffee unique. The only thing I wish they offered was a little more variety in food. I was hoping for something like avocado toast or another healthier breakfast option rather than primarily baked goods. A beautiful coffee shop with great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and a unique take on coffee. Definitely worth trying, especially if you enjoy a smoky, fire-roasted flavor.

I ordered a café au lait, and it delivered exactly what it should: bold, full-bodied coffee balanced by smooth, well-steamed milk. The result was rich without being heavy, strong without tipping into bitterness. This is the sort of place where coffee is treated as a craft rather than a trend--no shortcuts, no distractions, just a well-executed cup that lingers pleasantly and invites you to slow down. A destination worth seeking out for anyone who appreciates coffee with backbone and character.

The Italian was good but it was served cold and that's not great for ciabatta bread since it's so dense. It was a lot of chewing. They added balsamic which was a nice touch. Hands down the best Indian food I've had in the Knox County surrounding area. 1 dish is enough to feed 2-3 people - and I wanted to try multiple dishes, so I definitely had to ask for takeout containers and even then I had lunch and dinner for the next couple days covered! I went during dinner hours, but they do offer a buffet everyday from 11am to 3pm - which I will try next time to try more flavors at an even more affordable cost. Food did not come out extremely fast - so a good sign that it is freshly made to order and not just reheated frozen sauces with protein thrown in. The kababs came out sizzling and biryani came out steaming! The lamb was not gamey at all. The hospitality was quick and pleasant also!

The Great Indian Food Letdown…read more Listen -- I'm fully on board with a hole-in-the-wall serving up incredible food. That's my favorite kind of find. And maybe we caught this place on an off day, but for me, this was just... okay. And I genuinely do not understand what the rave reviews are talking about. Coming from Houston, a city with roughly a thousand Indian restaurants where almost every single one delivers, this felt like a real step down. Yes, it's attached to a gas station -- fine, no judgment there. They clearly put effort into making the inside feel a little charming. But our table was sticky and gross, and the bathroom matched. Not exactly the first impression you want. And it left me wondering: if the front of house can't notice -- or doesn't care -- that things are dirty, what on earth is happening back in the kitchen? As for the food, we ordered my personal benchmark trio for judging any Indian restaurant: Samosa Chaat, Palak Paneer, and Dosa (when available). They had all three, so I walked in optimistic -- maybe this sticky-table situation was about to redeem itself. Spoiler: it did not. The Samosa Chaat was fine, no real complaints there. But then my Palak Paneer arrived, and I genuinely did not recognize it. It was a strange brownish color -- think baby poop -- and the flavor bore zero resemblance to any Palak Paneer I've had in my life. I didn't finish it, and if you know me with Indian food, that tells you everything you need to know. My husband's dosa fared a little better, but the chutney tasted off, and there was only one variety with no clear indication of what was even in it -- whatever it was, it wasn't good. Traditionally, we're used to getting both coconut and mint chutney on the side, so this felt noticeably incomplete. Honestly, it was such a letdown that I'm not sure I have it in me to give this place a second shot. I'm just sitting here mourning the fear that I may never find great Indian food again after moving here.

The woman at the window had a death grip on the card reader, I was forced to practically climb out my window to put my card in. No apologies from this disheveled looking older woman. The "coffee" she tried handing to me was definitely not right. It had an orange tint with cold foam. She took it back and apparently just scooped the foam off then tried handing it back to me. I declined and proceeded to 7 brew where customer service it top notch, the coffee is not watered down and you receive what you ordered. To my astonishment, she is the manager. There seems to not be much traffic at this location which Im sure is due to crappy management. Do better less you lose even more customers.
