It has had a change of chef since I last ate there, so I hope they have managed to keep up the very high standards! This is a small and intimate venue, with a holding area that is perfect to enjoy an aperitif before stepping up a few stairs into the main restaurant to eat. This is by no means cheap and cheerful (although a set lunch at £9.95 for 2 courses is offered - a bargain). It is ideal for a very special meal and has a lovely atmosphere, excellent service and (when I was there last) divine food!

The coffee is fair-trade. As a result we were drawn in to try a late breakfast and were very disappointed. It offers bargain food at top prices. The bacon was nice but the sausages were awful- cheap, frozen and tasteless. The hash brown was the usual frozen type although the half slice of fried bread did look as though it was cut by hand. It Was a real shame about the quality of the meat, particularly when they have a top quality butchers a few doors away. The service was poor and we had to ask for serviettes and sauces (packet, not bottle). All in all, we won't be back again.

The menu choices for breakfast were very good, with me going for the 'brunch' which included two hash browns, two sausages, two bacon rashers, and beans. Sadly no toast or drink were included in that price, which was £5.95 The service was extremely quick, and the food arrived hot and a full plate, and it went down very well. Drakes is only a small place, tucked out of the way, but appears popular with the amount of visitors in the time we were there. There was 6 of us, and they could just accommodate us, but not a place for large groups. If you like your cooked breakfasts, then its worth a visit.
