I had an appointment with her on Friday at 1:30 pm. I thought I wouldn't have to wait long because I texted her early in the morning to get an appointment with her that day. I was wrong when I arrived there were two people sitting in the chair. One is having her hair colored I think and the other is having a haircut. There were three more people waiting sitting on the back and on the other side. What? I thought I had an appointment with her. She's the only one cutting the hair. I waited for a while and decided to leave because I don't want to waste my precious time sitting around waiting for her. Apparently, she is overbooked and didn't want to admit it. Ms. Karen is amazing! I think some of the other reviews here are quite melodramatic, especially with regard to pricing, as every price she charges is well below the standard cost of many other salons I've been to in both Houston and College Station. In addition, she always informs you of what she plans to do and her vision of your haircut before she does anything, so I'm skeptical of other reviews saying she does not listen to you when she makes every effort to discuss the haircut with you prior to cutting. If you show her a picture, she will match it very well, fitting the haircut shown in the picture to your head shape, instead of blindly following the cut as shown on a model (though she can do this if you ask). Very pleasant during the haircut, and a very sweet lady in general. Highly recommend her; she has earned my business for as long as I'm in cstat! read more

Best place to get a haircut in college station or bryan. Been coming here for 2 yrs after hearing from a a&m professor this is a great place to get a haircut. I used to live in ny and Karen cuts my hair better than all my prior stylists in Chinatown flushing and nyc. Plus costs much less. Super lucky for me! Karen is very kind and always asks how I'm doing. She remembers every time how I want my hair cut I just tell her, same as last time! Always easy to make an appt. Highly recommend! read more

Got my fringe cut too short twice. The last time it was sooooo short that I think I would not be able to go out for another few weeks. She never listens to you and twice I told her before hand not to cut too short because I like a longer fringe. She also does whatever she likes to your hair disregard of how you want your hairstyle to be. My daughter was pretty upset when her haircut did not turned out as pictured in the photo we showed her. My husband too was pretty mad at how dishonest she was and will never return to have a haircut again. I think these experiences pretty much tell you what this place is like. We would rather drive two hours to Houston and get a haircut from now on. read more

She gives pretty good haircuts! I'm not gonna lie, I was very skeptical at first but she definitely gained my trust the first time she cut my hair and now she is the only person I get my haircut from in B/CS. She does good fades and Asian male pop style haircuts. The only few words of wisdom I may add is that: the price for men's style haircut has been increased to 12-15$ this past year, and she seems to only take cash (or strongly prefer cash). I tried paying with card once and she told me to come back next time and pay her with cash... haha now that's trust right there. read more

Karen had a phenomenal memory and a masterful technique. After an eight-year hiatus, I returned to Star Salon. Not only did Karen remember me, but she remembered a minor skin condition. In the past, a few days before I was to be maid of honor in a wedding, Karen kindlyl gave me some makeup tips, then did my hair for the wedding. And this week, I scheduled a haircut. I have been cutting in this salon a few times, just because one of my friends recommended it. I found the cut is OK for Asian hair, which is less soft and pretty straight. It is hard to find in town a place that able to deal with this type of hair. So I went to this salon several times. However, the lady asks for a price randomly each time except kept increasing for the same hairstyle. She also asks different people different prices just based on her mood. Because this salon only accepts cash, I have to prepare cash beforehand. Sometimes I prepare the same price as last time but was embarrassed at least twice because of a sudden increase in price and I do not have extra bucks on hand for extra tips. And the salon does not accept credit cards. Even worse, the lady got very angry about this situation and call loud at me just because of I have no extra 2 bucks at hand. Who would do this to a repeating customer? I think I will no longer visit this salon. read more

I was doing the woman hair cut there. The service is not good. The lady's nails scratch my face several times. Even worse, the lady charged different prices for different people with the same hair cut style. I don't recommend this place. She will not wash your hair, and the whole process took about 10 mins, she charged me around $30 with tips. I don't think the service there deserves this charge. read more

First time I came here to get a cut, I was very disappointed. Came here again after one year later to give it another chance, but got another terrible if not worse haircut than before. The owner doesn't seem to have a thorough understanding of what I mean by trimmed sides and no "touch zone" on the front and top of my hair. She just shaved the sides all the way to the top and without permission thinned out my hair. She only knows how to cut hair by shaving off your sides rather than rounding it off or trimming. No proper knowledge on hair cutting whatsoever. I do not recommend this place to anyone who actually cares about their hair as I do. Never coming back to this place. read more

She knows exactly what she's doing and cuts your hair as requested (I asked for my hair to be cut 3-4 inches off with a long layers and thinned out). NOT WORTH $20 FOR A HAIRCUT THAT IS CONSISDERED A REGULAR HAIRCUT EVERYWHERE! Recently went into Star Salon expecting the highest due to the reviews on yelp and other sites but all I found was disappointment. My haircut was done in a rush due to being a walk-in and squeezed into a tight schedule. I even insisted I come back later fearing I was causing her to rush through her current clients haircuts and potentially mine, but she insited it will be fast. When it was finally my turn, I asked for a fade but found that it was just a straight cut around the head. And during my haircut the trimmer caught part of my skin on my neck and made it bleed, at the time it hurt alot but she didn't really stop to address, which would make sense to, so I thought maybe it didn't bleed, but it was only when I got home my roommate asked me why there was a cut and blood on my neck. They also accept ONLY CASH, which there was no signs of such to make this known! I was charged $20 rather than $15 (Regular Haircut cost) because mine was i guess unique. But for the two guys before me who had completely regular straight cut haircuts they were also charged $20. I also looked for a cosmetic license and didnt see one visible, that might be an issue. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more

I showed Karen a picture of the hairstyle that I liked, she could reproduce it with excellence every time. Karen is a very professional hairdresser in the small town of Bryan/College Station.
