I booked an appointment online for a pedicure with Ivy and a full liquid gel set with Tommy. I arrived, waited 10-15 minutes, and checked in but even after telling the owner I had a scheduled appointment, she asked what I needed done, which didn't make me feel like appointments are respected here. I didn't get Ivy for my pedicure, and the technician I did get seemed rushed. I didn't speak up initially--being a Black woman, I'm careful with how I express dissatisfaction, since it's often taken the wrong way. When asked how I liked my nails, I mentioned that some were uneven and asked for a quick file. She filed one nail, then asked "That's it?" with an attitude. I asked if she was annoyed, and she said no, but it felt tense. I just told her to finish with the polish. When I moved on to get my nails done, the tech asked what shape I wanted. I asked her what shape she was confident doing, because not every tech can pull off every shape. She said "Any shape," so I asked for almond shaped, natural and soft-looking. She suddenly said she was too nervous and couldn't do it anymore. I was shocked. I didn't argue, but I was really disappointed. I've always had a pleasant experience here and come every once in a while since it's near my second job. I got a dip manicure for my graduation, and while the nails looked good at first and my experience was great, two of them chipped within 4-5 days (likely due to the fact that the former tech who did them only did two layers of dip and filed them down more so that they wouldn't look too chunky since my nails were pretty short). I live an hour away, so they told me over the phone that I could come back later in the week to have them fixed when I returned for work. I did have a previous experience in which one of the nails chipped soon after getting my manicure and I was thankfully able to come soon after (which they happily fixed for no charge). When I came back this time, two more nails had already come off completely and others were lifting. The staff analyzed my nails and acknowledged that the set didn't last as it should, and kindly offered to fix them. At this time, no indications were made that I would have to pay for a full set before starting the service and I assumed that it would be fixed without having to pay the full price like last time. They asked me if I wanted to redo all of them and do the same color or change it. Unfortunately, it was my mistake to not clarify before moving forward whether I would get charged full price for redoing all of them (which made sense to do since a few nails were already lifting off). I really appreciated the technician Allie's friendliness and willingness to help, but I was surprised and disappointed when at the end she charged me full price again. This was despite knowing that the original dip had only lasted a week (and I normally get three weeks out of a set) and having told her that I was told over the phone that I could get them "fixed". I paid right away upon impulse without complaining because I also work in the service industry and felt bad. I started to walk away but immediately regretted paying considering the circumstances and returned to ask why I didn't at least get a partial discount. It was honestly pretty frustrating to have to return for a full redo and pay the same amount, especially since I had to attend my graduation with missing nails. I understand that they redid all of my nails but as I mentioned, most of my nails were either coming off or already off by this point. If I had known from the beginning that I'd be charged full price again (especially since the first staff member reassured me they would fix the problem), I would've at least picked a different color or gone somewhere else. The technician who did my manicure really was great, but the woman she spoke with after I paid didn't seem willing to help when I asked about the charge. One of the other employees said that next time they'd fix one for free--but only if I came back right away. I reminded him that I had called before returning to explain I didn't live nearby, which was why I couldn't come in immediately and also hadn't expected my nails to get worse after the call. Again, I work in the service industry so I never want to sound like a Karen but when paying for a service I would at least expect my nails to last two weeks like in my previous experiences. We drove to the place. the Place is not easy your going to miss it if you don't slow down. We went inside we wore acknowledge and waited for 10mins and my daughter got seated in. Per my daughter (Asha) she likes her nail technician. She said he was gentle and it didn't hurt. That's a plus! The last thing I needed is to pay extra to buy her ice cream to make her feel better lol. Her nail cost $50 and paid an extra 10$ to make it last longer +tip =70$ which the mom said that's cheap. I did a review for Star Nails approximately a year ago when it was under different ownership/management. This review is for current owners, specifically the nail technician/possibly owner Linda. I debated on whether to do this review. I decided it is important for consumers to share their experiences 1) to promote positive experiences with businesses 2) offer suggestions for improvement or how to have a better experience 3) detail negative experiences to help others avoid wasting time and money. I had been traveling 20 to 30 minutes to get my nails and feet done in Delaware county. I decided to give Star Nails another try after someone recommended them. I saw and liked their nails and figured if all went well, I would save time and money. I tried Star again and was pleasantly surprised. This time the salon was more modern, reasonably priced, they had different shaped nail tips, lots of colors, and EXCELLENT customer service. I found a new nail salon. I was always on time for my appointments, tipped well, and all was going great. Probably around May or June 2022 I started noticing unfavorable changes i.e., appointments not being honored, appointment times not being honored, higher prices, etc. I got a pedicure from a young lady who appears to be in training. She did good on the pedicure, but the paint job was horrific. They have an online booking site through google and/or Booksy. Linda was listed as an option to do my pedicure but of course when it was time for my appointment, she had pushed me to the young lady. If you don't do pedicures, then remove yourself as an option for people to make appointments. The last two times at the salon were the tipping point for me. I will not be going back. Right before my vacation I got my nails done on June 17th, 2022. I have higher nail beds which can make my nails look thick very fast if the technician is not skilled. I believe Linda is skilled enough to find a balance because early on my nails looked great. Due to her always running late for appointments she was not taking the time to ensure my nails looked their best. My nails were looking super thick the last few times. I asked her very nicely to please thin out my nails which I can tell annoyed her but as a customer I have the right respectfully to ask for what I want. She filed my nails so thin that day, I knew she was trying to prove a point. My second day into vacation my nails polish started peeling off on multiple nails and I had two cracks in my nails. The cracks were uncomfortable the whole trip. Upon my return I made an appointment for June 24th. I sat down and said to her I was having two issues with my nails: first peeling and cracks. She had such an attitude and was trying to overtalk me. I am a very laid-back person, but I was not taking her disrespect. We had a somewhat heated exchange while I was seated at her station. We did not yell but talked firmly to each other in an agitated tone. My point was as a technician there was a middle ground to doing my nails, she knowingly filed my nails too thin. All she had to do was thin them out without compromising the nail structure. I have been getting my nails done 20+ years and technicians with experience know how to navigate doing my nails. Linda early on did my nails much better. At the end of my appointment, she messed up the gel polish but instead of starting over she kept going (pictures included). At this point I knew I was never coming back and didn't want to upset myself any further. I will be fair and share that she did not charge me, but she shouldn't have based on the service I received. I still left $15 because I don't need anything for free and that isn't what I was looking for by telling her about the issues with my nails. She was so rude, condescending, and arrogant. Nothing like the person I met when they barely had customers. My advice is going back to providing quality work and customer service, or you'll continue to get negative reviews and lose customers. read more

I've had really good experiences here before but I'm a bit bummed after today. I paid $80 and there is so much left over acrylic on my cuticles and my fingers!! She was basically wiping monomer all over my finger as she shaped them, to the point where I complained that my fingers were burning... The shape is good but detail work was rushed so I'll have to clean the edges up with a Q Tip and some acetone. I'm a licensed esthetician and I could do my own nails but I pay for the convenience and expertise of nail artists. I don't mind paying for a great set, but I shouldn't have to clean acrylic off my fingers for that price. read more

Worst nail salon I ever experienced! I was denied service just because my boyfriend said something about them messing up my nails. I go back to get another set and they said they were done for the day and to come back tomorrow. I've now been going to star nails for about a year now and am saddened to say I will not be returning. This place is a complete hit or miss. Every-time you walk through the door you never know what to expect. There is surely some talent at star nails. But with that being said, I have noticed that there have been MANY times where my gel manicure was completely rushed through. This has happened with multiple different techs too. It's very obvious that they are just rushing through to be done working and go home. (I book my appointments closer to closing time which is all I can do with my work schedule.) In turn leaving me with a bad manicure for 2 weeks, or going somewhere else to get them redone. And yes I know some reading this may be thinking "why didn't you say something or go back to get fixed" and I will explain why, just keep reading. There has also been very good times where nothing negative has happened but the inconsistency is just way too much and way too drastic for me. I would have given more stars if things were more consistent. I didn't ask for them to be fixed because the staff can be VERY rude sometimes. Don't get me wrong, there are very nice & friendly nail techs there too like V and a few others. But for me to put up with a snarky attitude or remark just because I asked for something to be fixed, which is the BARE MINIMUM ... the service would have to be ALOT better than it is. I will admit, that I should have said things in the past to some of the techs, and asked for them to please fix my nails. But that, and me watching TV and I guess not staring at my nails for the entire time to make sure they are decent are the ONLY things I will say I am responsible for. A huge point I want to make in this review is appointments. They hold very very little weight at star nails. I think out of all the times I've been there, mind you I had made an appointment every time, I ended up waiting at least 15 minutes each time. And listen I get it, they are a popular nail salon and 15 minutes isn't THAT LONG. I'm a pretty patient and understanding person. But it's the fact that it's EVERY.SINGLE.TIME without fail. & just the principle. Extremely unprofessional to have people with appointments scheduled, that arrive early or on time, waiting sometimes upwards of 30 minutes. That's unacceptable. The last time I came in, the girl I had scheduled (2 weeks prior) with has just started a full set on someone else! So I ended up waiting over 30 minutes because star nails will take anyone who's there in the flesh with complete disregard of appointments. So I got passed around to whoever was available even tho I had specifically scheduled with someone. And my manicure was rushed through and looked like shit. I don't think it was the techs fault bc she is a young girl. I think the owner, whose name is Linda I believe, is rude & inconsiderate. I see how she interacts with other customers too because of how much time I have spent simply waiting there 5ft away from her. She is nice to only some people and it's not many. Emphasis on not many. Everyone else she is just rude and/or at least very dismissive towards. Not great social skills for a business owner. She has ignored me politely saying hello multiple different times. To each their own I guess but it's common decency that you should be friendly and welcoming to your paying customers. ESPECIALLY regulars. To sum it up, if you have money to gamble with, a WHOLE LOT of patience, the ability to go right at opening time, are ready to be met with attitude when you ask for something to be fixed that was not at all your fault, or you are a regular that the owner actually likes, then go for it. If not, my advice would be go somewhere else. There are plenty of other ample places in the area. It was just the convenience and decent pricing that drew me into star nails in the first place. Had a great visit to this salon. Was my first time going there and will be back again. Went in for a acrylic re-fill and a pedicure. The pedicure was relaxing and efficient. Polish came out beautiful. Spent a lot of time to make sure toe nail cuticles were perfect (not many places do that!) Acrylic refill was excellent as well. Polish removal, filling and file work were all very gentle. My gel polish turned out perfect! So happy to have found this salon! read more

Love Star Nails! They are very accommodating and welcoming. I always make an appointment and they fit me in as soon as possible. So far I've gotten gel manis, pedis, and eyebrow waxing. I can't say a bad thing about any of the services. The nail area, pedicure chairs, and waxing area appear clean which is sometimes hard to come by with nail salons.
