I had my Storyteller Overland sprinter van service A performed today and it took less than 2hrs. (The Mercedes dealership had originally asked to have the vehicle dropped off at 7am and picked up at 5pm) So I decided to call around since I don't have that kind of time. Brandon, the owner of Star Motors is not only one of the best Mercedes mechanics around but excels in true "customer service" which is quite lacking in society today. Had a breakdown late afternoon, called to see if he would still be open as it was close to closing time. He was waiting for me when the flat bed arrived. Put it in the shop and he gave a brief examination. Belt tensioner pully came off and damaged the radiator. Said he could get it done by the next day since it is my only transportation. He called the next day and said it was ready. This was by 1:00pm. Upon arrival he showed me he had replaced the radiator, the belt tensioner unit, changed all relative fluids, (water, antifreeze and transmission as the cooler is cooled with water, new overflow reservoir. Get this, due to the water having flowed over the headlights he polished them. No charge, didn't ask, just did it as if he was working on his own vehicle. Took it for a test drive just to make sure all was as it should be. The billing was well lower than any other shop would have charged, especially a dealership. If you have a Mercedes, you know what I mean. This is the only person I will deal with on repairs that I can't not handle myself. I cannot express my appreciation for his service, expertise and customer service sufficiently. read more

The Mercedes dealer gave me an estimate of $510 to repair my 2011 E350. On the way home from the dealer I stopped by Star Motors who had been highly recommended. The owner of Star had his head under the hood of a car doing work. I asked him if he could take a look at my car's problem. In less than three minutes he located a loose electrical connector and plugged it back in. Problem solved. $500 saved. Star will be my mechanic from now on. read more

Herb is a Mercedes-Benz expert and an extraordinarily great human being. About 12 years ago, I called the MB dealership in Thousand Oaks asking for a referral. There were no local dealerships at the time. The service manager told me Herb used to run their service department and is the most knowledgeable and nicest guy he knows and happens to be in Ventura. After that first service, he has serviced each of my MB since. There are so many examples of him taking great care of me but here is just one of them. I received a recall letter from MB. I took it to Herb and he stated that it needs to go though the dealership so that I did not have to pay anything. He explained if I did not go through the dealership, the cost would be over $600 to repair. When the new, local dealership would not take care of it, Herb stepped in and further advised me. He explained how it works and I went back and they took care of it for FREE. Anyone else would have taken my money. I have had eight MB and all have been very well taken care of at the most reasonable cost. I had a very bad experience here. I wonder if females get different service here than males? He was extremely creepy and I felt uncomfortable being alone with him in the office. I had some stupid reoccurring check engine light in my ML500. I would clear it and it would come back every few months. I brought it in and the guy was super nice, he ran a full check using the Mercedes computer and gave me a copy of everything and didn't charge me a cent. He cleared the code for me and he said the light was a false alarm and not to worry. It did not reoccur. When I eventually do have a problem I can't deal with, I will definitely be returning. This guy does business the old fashioned way--he is very fair and honest. He never tries to up sell or tell you you need something for your car that you don't. One of my best friends has a very expensive, newer Mercedes and swears by Herb as well. My daughter drives a Mercedes that is almost as old as she is, and when it is cranky and just needs a little treaking, I so appreciate that Herb is honest, and quickly gets us back on our way. My husband called this place to get second opinion on 3 problems I have with my E-350 after taking it from my old mechanic.
