Our awesome server was Mary Ann with an M ....she gave us friendly and warm service and she was very attentive. Our food came out hot and was delicious - - i had another waffle, but this time with just bananas - -and hubby had scrambled eggs and hash browns covered in cheese - - and he LOVED every bite as did I. And the coffee is just perfect! JJ's is a bright light and such a heavenly oasis. Everyone should be as happy and positive as the people that work at JJ's. They have worked hard to provide this consistently good food and service over the years. We will make it a point to be back again next time we are in town.

That's creamed chipped beef over toast with two eyes any style but I get mine poached or over easy accompanied by grits. Yes. Grits. Which explains my finally trying their sausage and gravy. Quite traditional dish I'm told by a Floridian friend who I had join me this past week while she visited. We agreed that the server was allowing us the time we needed to catch up with the right amount of follow up. I'd have liked to have my water refilled one more time. But that was on me for not stopping to ask as she poured another cup of coffee for my friend. I've had their coffee and it's delicious. My friend enjoyed the international omelette. She enjoyed it. The diner has its own parking lot with plenty of parking. The inside is eclectic but with definite typical Jersey diner vibes and the counter and stools to go with it. I've sat at the counter and the service is cordial and inviting. Quick too when necessary. From the outside, the place looks like it gave up on glamour some time ago. No chrome spaceship, no neon promises. Just a building that knows what it is. Inside, however, it's 100% Jersey diner. A board announcing pie and pudding as if they were breaking news. Booths to the left. Counter seating for those who wish to face their breakfast directly. A dining room to the right for people who prefer a little distance from their eggs. My wife ordered eggs over easy with corned beef hash. I chose cream chipped beef over toast, a dish that has survived longer than many empires for reasons that become clear when you eat it. Both came with home fries and coffee. Everything tasted exactly as it should. The eggs behaved. The hash was honest. The chipped beef was comforting in the way only something slightly excessive can be. The coffee kept coming. The service was attentive and friendly without hovering like guilty conscience. We paid thirty five dollars with tip, which in this era feels almost like a mathematical error in our favor. Nothing here will astonish you. But it will feed you well, send you back out into the world a little steadier, and sometimes that is the highest calling a diner can have. Four stars feel right. Not because anything here changed my understanding of breakfast, but because it did't try to.

NO GROUPS though not because groups aren't valued just because there is no room for large groups but the entire dining area is like one happy group. Have to admit we were conversing almost immediately with the woman at the next table while staring hungrily at the amazing meal she and her children were enjoying. She said, 'I came here all the time and ALWAYS get the catfish breakfast. ' Her comment and seeing how yummy it looked changed our plans Gary's philosophy has always been to treat customers like family. Customer ages ran from little tykes to oldsters. Yes, you might have to wait ... especially at breakfast time. It is probably time to replace some of the photos from old on the walls perhaps using local talent to create a new mural to replace the faded ancient poster with images of Super Bowl tickets.

But I only ate half because I wanted to order a dessert. I got the peanut butter explosion which I highly recommend. Oh and the coffee is great too; I learned from the owner when I commented on it that it comes from Italy. The following week my wife and I split an omelet and we each got a dessert.
