The friendliest store to deal with, I go out of my way to visit for purchases & printing!

I went here to pickup an Amazon package. I went in and followed the signs to the left and waited in line. When It's my turn I am told Amazon Pickup is on the other side of the store. Like WTF? There's no sign? Anyway, everyone was polite and extra friendly. The very nice lady who does Amazon Pickups remembered seeing my name on the package too. She was a real sweetheart. So 5-stars for Staples. read more

I had to have a project printed and trimmed. The team went way out of their way to assist , called to update me and when they had a machine issue and drove the project to another store to finish. That's good work ! read more

Add another person to the Amazon/UPS shipping center. Whoever is the manager there has absolutely no idea how to delegate. This one poor guy is there and there is never not a line. I mean I have people in front of me returning 15 things. SIX other employees in plain view. Two literally just chatting with each other. In my opinion the other two guys staring at computers could take a step back and assist the 10 person line. If not, hire someone. This is my 4th time doing a return here, I try different times of day hoping for better and it's the exact same every single time. With that said, the guy doing the returns ( I think he said Brian) was great and efficient and doing his best, it's not his fault he drew the short straw. read more

I'm no longer responding to Staples' survey, as the customer experience at this store neither improves, nor gets worse. It started unilaterally poor, and remains so after ten years. Purchased another office chair from Staples Old Saybrook, our fourth. No fewer than four times during the transaction did the salesperson promote Staples' extended warranty, going so far as to inform us that Staples does not offer a warranty on the office chairs that it sells. Once at the register, I commented to the fellow that I was surprised that Staples doesn't offer a warranty on the office chairs it sells, and inquired if there were other products that Staples doesn't offer a warranty on. The fellow responded, "No, just office chairs. I'm just doing my job." at which point the cashier in the next lane snickered. From the assembly brochure: "Staples. . .warrants to the original purchaser that this Staples Brand Chair shall be free of defects in design, assembly, material, or workmanship for 7 years from the original date of purchase." Whether arrogance, hubris, or outright chicanery, expressing a falsehood to sell a product, in this case an extended warranty, will never work in your favor - such behavior damages Trust. Perhaps if I had dressed in a suit instead of my gardening clothes, the behavior would have been more respectful, if not circumspect. In the future, as in the past, if shopping at Staples - especially in Old Saybrook - we'll shop with Trust in short supply. read more

This Staples branch stole $208 from me on a double charge (for exactly the same 8 items on the same day, 4 minutes apart). They must be going out of business soon since they're desperately ripping off their customers. Don't get fooled by "your charge didn't go through; we'll have to run your card again." read more

This is about the Branford, CT store. I know we all have our issues with the big chains, but I just want to say that the manager there was very helpful, digging through their records to find me a copy of a receipt that I needed. read more

Five stars for Staples in Old Saybrook! Thank you so much Shane (in the copy center)! I recently went home to visit the parents and, of course, left stuff at their house. Mom sent it back to me here in SF, only for me to fail to be at my apartment not once or twice, but three times when the UPS guy tried to deliver. After the package being sent back and me trying to have Staples re-send it (to avoid the lecture from Mom), Shane hooked it up and sent the package back to me FOR FREE. Way to go. I have also bought and returned a digital camera at the same store, and purchased a ton of other stuff at my little hometown Staples, and the staff has always been great. read more

I don't live here full time but have used this store well over 20 times over the past couple years. Each time there, whether I have used printing services or shopped for products, I have always found the service helpful and friendly. I don't think I have seen customer service people walking the isles offering assistance like they do in crowded NYC stores, but the place is so "empty" that anytime I've had questions, someone up front is always free to assist me. Lastly, because it's never crowded, I'm in and out quickly, which I appreciate. read more

Third time trying to call Staples and talk to the cop and print center. After being on hold for 2 1/2 minutes I get disconnected. At this rate I'll drive to FedEx Office in Branford to get something done. The website to send a presentation for printing is nowhere near as easy as FedEx's but I thought since it's closer I'd give it a shot. read more

I've shopped here about a dozen times for work items and it is the most unfriendly Staples I've experienced between CT and IL. Employees don't make eye contact, so saying 'hello' is far beyond them. Young employees, older employees, men, women, it doesn't matter. The checkout lines get backed up because the cashiers are so slow and often have to call a manager for help. I'm posting this review in the hope that someone sees it and gets the staff better training. When I was here the other day both cashiers where waiting for a manager's help or approval on something. The manager eventually arrived. No one apologized for the wait or even acknowledged that there had been a delay. I usually avoid this store when I can and head to the Staples in Branford. read more

Today (8-18-2011) I asked the Staples copy center clerk to scan an 11x17 drawing to a flash drive in pdf - no copy required. Exactly as a different Staples clerk did for me yesterday, in fact it was the same drawing, for which I paid $0.49 + tax. Both times I supplied the same flash drive. However, today I was told the charge would be $0.49 + tax if the scanned document were text, but it would be $5.99 + $0.49 + tax if it were not text. Again, the same drawing as yesterday with no copy required and I provided the flash drive - it even still had yesterday's pdf scan. This is just incredible that the same task is 13x more expensive even though there were no copies required with the difference being whether the document was text or not-text. I objected to this blatant ripoff, but was told by the defiant clerk "Its our policy" three times, while the Staples store manager looked-on with a smirk. read more

Print and copy services does a really good job and the people there are quite helpful. Watch their pricing, though. HOWEVER, they are consistently understaffed. On more than one occasion I've simply left because it was clear I was going to wait much too long. And, I frequently abandon my shopping at the check out line. That line takes forever. It's not because the lines are long but because everyone seems to have a question or comment at check out. That probably happens because it's so hard to find help in the rest of the store that customers go to the only place where there is almost always a human being: the check out area. Et voila, unacceptably long check out times. Note to Staples: Having good in-store customer service requires hiring people to provide service. Simple. read more

Engineer Prints 24x36 cost 3 X what a local business two miles away charges $63 vs $203. What a rip off. Called them back and I was basically told that's their pricing. STAY AWAY! I WONT BUY ANY tHING AT THIS OR ANY OTHER STAPLES! read more

I live in New Haven, and I still find myself driving to Old Saybrook to use this Staples because of how much better it is than the ones closer to me. My local Staples (branford) is overpriced, has crap customer service, and honestly doesnt seem interested in staying in business. The Old Saybrook print and marketing center on the other hand is willing to work with their customers, get my order done within a day or two, call me if they have any questions, problem solve if the situation calls for it, and the one time I found myself having an issue (a new employee had printed my order on the wrong card stock) management immediately handled the situation and I was able to walk away feeling heard. When I attempted to get the same order printed at the branford location, they attempted to charge me over 4 times what the Old Saybrook location does, told me it would take weeks to print the order, and claimed the Old Saybrook location "is clearly doing things wrong" if I expected better service. Today I tried to get a banner printed in the branford location. After spending 15 minutes looking on their website for the print center email and another 10 minutes on hold, I was told to send it to the staples database, receive a code over email, DRIVE TO THE STORE AND PHYSICALLY BRING THEM THE CODE, and only then would they be able to access the remote order. When I asked if there was just a direct way to send their center the file, the staff member on the phone just started his explanation over. I hung up, called Old Saybrook, and lo and behold, they had the entire order straightened out and ready to be printed within 5 minutes. I'm always pleased with the customer service here, and despite it being almost 20 miles further than the branford store, I can honestly say I don't mind the extra driving knowing that this print center will actually do what I need them to do. read more
