I went to pick up boxes, a pretty simple job. But the people who offered to help were far from helpful. You might as well just order online. Maybe you can save yourself the hour it will take to be there read more

In addition to having good prices, I have to say the staff here are great. They are friendly and competent, and also very polite and professional. It makes going there or even calling there a very pleasant experience. We all have had to deal with people in retail who act like their job is the last place they want to be and that you are being completely unreasonable for interrupting their socializing with co-workers. Not the case here. Customers come first and they all seem happy to do their jobs. They seem to have good collegial relationships among the staff too. I also want to give a shout-out for especially good customer service to Freddie in tech and to Abigail in printing. read more

I shop here because I sometimes need to, not because I want to. On the one hand, Staples carries tons of useful products, often at very good prices. Some of their online printing tools (Provided via Vistaprint? Interface is similar.) are better than those of Fedex. On the other... 1. Listless staff. Even when stuff is listed online as being in stock, in quantity, at this location, it's sometimes hard to buy it. The sales associates' immediate reaction is "we don't have it." This happened to me just recently, and I had to really push them to help me locate what I needed. It's not easy to spend money at this store, even when you really want to! 2.Ridiculous layout, inaccessible shopping area. Except for a UPS center on the main floor, everything is on the second floor, which is reachable only by elevator. It's very slow, and the elevator takes a long time to depart, since new customers keep entering, causing the elevator doors to stay open. Unless you arrive at a very odd time of day, it may take you several minutes just to get to the office supplies. Staples recently did a big renovation of this store, but failed to add a staircase, an up escalator, or anything that would enable people to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. There is a down escalator for when you leave. Because of the weird entrance, this Staples is tough to use for quick purchases. 3. Lack of professionalism.Using their online printing service, I sent a digital presentation to them once that needed to be printed and mounted on a large foamcore board. They printed the digital file, but smudged the printout badly during the mounting. They could have just reprinted and mounted it properly, but instead, they told me it was ready without telling me it was flawed. When I went to pick it up, they informed me that it hadn't come out properly and asked me if I wanted it at a reduced price. Right. I try to have a presentation professionally printed, and they think I will accept it with a big smudge on it. I told them no, and they redid it, but I had to leave, come back, and pick it up again. Had I been on a tight deadline, it could have been a big problem. They should have at least mentioned the problem over the phone instead of telling me it was ready for pickup. Overall, this branch needs a staircase and a more energetic staff. read more

Let me just say that the print center at this location is a hit or miss experience. And i have had waaay more misses than hits at this place!!! read more

Don't bother going to this Staples. Just don't bother. Go to the Staples on 66th and 2nd. I know, I know, but it's worth the trip/subway/bus fare/walk. They are professional, you are greeted as soon as you walk in, if you have to wait more than a second or two, someone will THANK YOU for doing business with them and will tell you that they'll be right with you. I was there yesterday and the female employee at the register was being so sweet, kind and helpful to the elderly male customer, I could hardly believe it. They are friendly and pleasant and recognize customers who have been there before. It's a night and day difference. I keep TRYING to do business at the 86th St Staples but each and every time, i leave exasperated. Yesterday, I peeked in, saw NO ONE in line and figured I'd give it yet another try. I just needed to have 2 4-page documents scanned to a USB drive. I stood very patiently at the counter. There was an employee there who was either looking at the computer screen or her iPhone which was positioned right near the keyboard. I just stood and waited. Nothing. A male employee approached her; he was sweeping the carpet. He made a comment to her, swept a bit more, made another comment to her and THEN asked me if I was being helped. I said: "Nope!" in my most cheery voice. The female employee at the register said: "Oh - I thought you were faxing....". Mind you, she hadn't looked up once since I had arrived. Then the male employee, without putting his broom down (he was using his chin to keep the broom upright WHILE keying my order into the system), asked me if I knew their scanning policy (?!?) and told me to come with him. He entered my order, asked some dumb questions and then told me it would be an hour. I told him I didn't need the docs EMAILED to me, I had my USB drive right there. He said, "Oh - you said you knew the policy....it's going to take an hour." I then asked to speak to his manager and he said sure - but it was the female employee who ignored me when I first arrived so I said "Forget it..." and walked out. read more

The newish copy center turns out to be as inefficient as the old one. Copy machines are frequently out of service or just stalled. Staff there is indifferent about helping. In terms of customer service-- I just called to ask about availability of a device After picking my way through the menu to the right line, no one answered the phone in 7-8 minutes of waiting. It is sunday evening an hour before closing time, not a peak time. Guess folks are just not in the mood. turns out the Best Buy next door has it. Guess now where i am taking my business? Check out people at this Staples are usually friendly, though. Otherwise, they need an improvement in attitude. read more

The staff try their hardest but it is understaffed and under organised, at least in the copy centre. Expect long delays and misplacements.

I have been to some wonderful Staples in New York City - there is one on 66th and 2nd. But this staples is disgusting. It is dirty, disordered and chaotic. But mainly it looks trashed and it is. This is not an issue of lay out it is an issue of pride in the business, paint, care and attention to detail. Unfortunately it is the closest staples to my office. I have to go there today and I dread it! read more

Expensive but the staff in various departments know their stuff! "not like the hacks in best buy"

Most of my worst--very WORST--experiences related to printing and copying in the entire city took place here. Every time I tried to get something printed really quickly, I came here because well, why wouldn't I? It's Staples--they have hundred of machines and limitless paper supply and doesn't that just make sense? Well, I wish it did. I've wasted hours just standing around trying to get some help with printing a mere 10 pages. But today they struck a new low, and here's a cautionary tale for all of you: DO NOT come here, unless you absolutely have to. I had an appointment in an hour and I had to print out 1 page, ONE PAGE, of this image that I was going to bring with me to the appointment. I'd known that I usually spend more time that I expected here so I reserved 15 whole minutes to this task of printing a one page document, thinking unless the entire city decided to print out their textbooks today, I should be fine. Showed up, and of course: their ONLY print-straight-from-USB printer was broken. There was already something fundamentally wrong with them only having 1 of these machines: most people bring their flash drives, so why would you have like 10 computers lying around when there's barely anybody using them, and only one USB printer and have a line there all the time? Ok so I went to a computer and printed this image from the computer. Guess what? I paid, and the page NEVER was printed anywhere. So there I was, walking around trying to get some help locating this one page that I printed and paid for. As usual, their employees seemed super busy with their own tasks, and no one ever has a minute to help you with the simplest things. After standing around for over 15 minutes, one employee finally responded to my desperate plea and suggested I print it one more time. Oh, you don't say? All I had to do is print again? Why didn't I think of this? oh wait yeah it's cause what if I printed again and I still can't find it? I said I'm gonna be late, so I had to abandon the plan. I never got my image printed. On this beautiful first day of spring, I was stranded on desperate Staples island, trying to get ONE mere page printed on a land where they literally have the word "print" on their door, soaked in sweat because, yeah why wouldn't staples make it 90 degrees and uncomfortable for the customers in their store? Yeah you're only one of the biggest companies in America, why wouldn't you only hire 3 employees who have to deal with hundreds of customers by the minute? Sorry about my rant. Every time I come to staples they successfully lower my expectations furthermore even when I thought I understood they were already the Bill Crosby of all print & copy services in the city. Here's the moral of my unnecessarily lengthy story: DO. NOT. Come here. Unless you get a kick out of hopelessness, frustration, and endless sweating. read more

This store drives me absolutely crazy. The layout is completely customer unfriendly (see other reviews stating the elevator situation). What's worse is an inept management that seems totally unable (or uninterested?) in responding to customer needs or long lines. The last time I was there for a quick purchase, there were 3 cashiers on duty with a line at least 20-30 people deep. Two of the customers being serviced were proving difficult (couponers, etc.), leaving only one cashier actually moving the line forward. The manager on duty was around, visible, and yet doing nothing to help the situation. read more

Workstation copy center is abominable. No time limit on the one computer available so I had to convince the 14 year old on facebook to get off when there were 5 ppl waiting for an hour. Don't go here read more

Not much to say about this Staples other than the fact it seems to have everything you could possibly need from a Staples. I agree with the other comments that the layout is very strange, but that is New York on the UES for you. I have no complaints. read more

Very confusing to navigate. How do I get upstairs?how do I get downstairs? Once I'm upstairs its chaos. Not great.

No one on the floor to answer any questions. One of two elevators broken. Three managers and only two cashiers with 16 people trying to check out. A badly run location. read more

Poor customer service, rude and indifferent staff. Ordered online, 1 hour pick up option. They couldn't find the product when I got there 4 hrs later. The staff was patronizing and condescending, and implied that I was to blame. They told me they did not have it. I had to insist to speak to the manager, and I had to insist that she go back upstairs and locate the product, which she eventually did. No apologies for their oversights or inconvenience, no thanks for my patronage. Just attitude from the staff that didn't want to be bothered by a customer who wanted to pick up what was ordered online. I will never shop here again. read more

I continued going to this Staples because it's the closest office supply store to my apartment, but after numerous frustrations (long lines, slow and completely checked out cashiers, the terrible layout and escalator that seems to always be under repair), I have finally had enough after my experience at the print/copy center. I have honestly never been treated with such disrespect from a CUSTOMER SERVICE oriented business. I work retail, I get that people and customers suck. But you should probably at least ACKNOWLEDGE that someone is standing in front of you waiting for help. The worst part is waiting and then being told (without anyone ever looking up at you or your documents) that it will be 2 hours before you can get 2 pieces of paper scanned as a PDF file. Never. again. read more

I attempted to use Staples printing centres last week and experienced some of the worst customer service in a long time. I had previously phoned up the store as I need to print a file from an SD card, which I know can sometimes be an unusual request. I told the women over the phone it was very important that I get the file printed, to which she responded it should be fine and to just come down. Once I arrived at the store I handed the girl my SD card and asked to print the file off. She then began to aimlessly look around the room, as if she was attempting to search for something with the least amount of effort possible. She then informed me they did not have an SD card reader and shrugged her shoulders. I then asked her what this meant, and she responded by shrugging her shoulders. I then told her it was very important that I get this file printed and the girl again responded by shrugging her shoulders. I was a little bit frustrated at this point and I asked her what I was supposed to do now. She responded by saying 'well I don't have an sd card reader?'. I asked her if she would be able to track down another one and she responded by telling me the stores SD card reader was missing. I then asked her if she knew of any other printing places in the area and she again shrugged her shoulders. For one, I found this completely ridiculous that a store that has a complete level dedicated to printing and copying would only carry one SD card reader. And two, I was completely shocked by this girls lack of customer service and help. While it might seem like I am over reacting to a small issue, I had phoned up previously and expressed how important this was. I will not be returning to this Staples again. read more

The print station is a disaster. None of the card readers worked, so I had to put money on a gift card (surprise, still didn't work). I waited for service for ten minutes while the manager gabbed with another customer, completely ignorant to the ten people in line. read more

I've been printing all my jobs there from 2010 until an year ago when everything start changing. All of the great and professional staff (copy print area) stop working there, new "manager" Chris DOES NOT have any idea of printing services whatsoever and almost every "lady" who works there are the rudest in the world. Plus they take days to have a job done and you have to be very lucky to have it done PERFECTLY. That copy print store is a mess and you can tell that as soon as you walk in and see the faces of people waiting or receiving prints. Not printing there anymore. Using Staples on 2nd Ave @66 where they have REAL nice staff and PROFESSIONAL. read more

GAME PLAYERS Items marked on sale in store and on website were charged full price at register. BEWARE! I didn't realize I had been overcharged on an item until I got home and then "assistant manager" had me stand on a long line to get my refund when I had already stood on line to buy the item they overcharged for. Slow service . Very very different than typical staples in the suburbs . They are small need to be run better and increase their number of their staff read more

Not as bad as the FedEx at 78th but still pretty bad. Their computers are also old. I needed to scan a document and they could not read the USB drive, I had to wait for ten minutes for them to restart it, and then it refused to read it again. Then if you want to print anything good luck, there is only one color printer and there are often some old people who take their sweet time scanning or printing one hundred paintings at a time. At least one guy who seems to be the manager is very helpful, recognizes the situation and will be happy to give your money back if something does not work. read more

Worst staples I've ever been to. Worst customer service, and the checkout process was extremely slow. Spent 20 minutes waiting up buy a cartridge. One of the guys was having a chat fest with his buddy too. So inconsiderate to the long line of customers waiting. Thumbs down. read more

This staples is limited in product selection compared to others. I also find that the staff are always in rotation and never lasting long. Every visit I find a person is flipping out on them. Usually upset because they want something done that can't be done. Ether way I tend to feel bad for the staff everytime I leave. read more

I just got back from buying printer ink at this location. After waiting through the line, I asked the cashier for ink for a Canon Pixma MX410 (all the printer ink is behind the counter). I usually go to the Harlem location, and compatible ink is always in stock and easy to find. Consequently, I was surprised when after a while of looking things up on her computer and wandering around the shelves, she said they didn't have it and that I would need to order online. Being somewhat skeptical that this was the case, I did a quick search for the cartridge number I would need on my phone, and they did have it in stock (it was sitting right at eye level). I had to wait through the line again and this time told another cashier the cartridge number, confirmed that it was compatible, and went on my way. The second cashier was nice enough, so I am giving two stars instead of one. read more

I bought an item that was clearly not labelled correctly for its use and on principle I spoke with manager on phone, asking for exchange or store credit. It was $20. No go, because I had partially used it. Waste of my time - and he just got free feedback from me. Be very careful what you buy here, I expect all return requests are met with the same reluctance to help. This attitude is so shortsighted, of course I will never shop in Staples again. read more

I had a terrible experience getting a poster printed at this Staples. Great prices, poor layout, and sales associates devout of any knowledge or expertise. It seems that they hire people at or a bit above the minimum wage and that they get little or no training. Don't even think about sending a UPS package - this task is so complex for them, I wasted 25 minutes with one of the sales associates during which he was studying a manual trying to figure out how to send a UPS package. And he was not successful! Still could not process it. I had to go to a UPS Store to get this done. read more

A little frustrated w this store and many other Staple copy centers. They are a copy center - aren't they? They have the ingenious way to email to their copy machine to print out anything that is standard letter or 11x 17 size. I have utilize this feature for work the last month and find that no matter which location, there is always a wait. For this 86th/ lex location specifically, it's frustrating for its a large store and a busy center. They are obviously renovation and putting money into this store, yet out of 4 (four!) copy machines, only one is color and that same machine only receive their "print me" emails. The same machine for color AND your fab email device? You're Staples. Have TWO to receive emails and print color ....at least in this busy location. Rarely have I seen anyone on the regular black and white copiers. There is ALWAYS a line for the color and email machine. As there is right now. I'm able to write such a long review because two people are in front of me, two people in back and the current user has been on the machine for 10 minutes. This Staples gets two stars because I think their STAFF is always helpful and very nice. Never an attitude. read more

For the Copy and Print services: After waiting on the phone forever and being transferred continually, I was finally able to speak to someone about the poster printing services. Let's say, it was not worth the wait! I asked 3 questions that I think are important basics that an employee should know.1. Can you do a poster in this size? 2. What is the turn around time? and 3. How much would that cost? Pretty easy, no? Answers: 1. "Hold on...yeah", 2. "Wait...I don't know, you can get in on Monday maybe?" and 3. "Oh God! She wants to know a price now! $94." CLICK...phone down before I get a chance to say thank you. My son is taking the Regents Algebra exam on Tuesday and needed a graphing calculator. The one I ordered from Amazon never came. So (at 8:15am) we ordered and paid for one to be "held behind the counter" at local Staples. Got there just after 9am, to be told "they didn't have one." (After we went to 4 different people, up and down floors, in store asking where it was.) They had sent an email well after we left to go to store. So, I made them call Staples across town (81st and Bway) who supposedly put one behind their counter. They called, with a lot of eye rolling. Went next door to Best Buy, bought one from very gracious sales person. Called west side Staples, so they could put calculator BACK on shelves, as some other kid would need it. Person who answered phone was rude and obnoxious, and did not listen to a word we said. So much for trying to help another person. Finally hung up on them. Customer service is OBVIOUSLY NOT a skill required to work at any Staples store. Next time, we're going straight to Best Buy. read more
