This review is in response to recovery of my external hard drive. Initial payment was around $70. However, I was told that further diagnostics would have to be done that would cost me $1000. As I had all my pictures, videos, and files on it, I agreed. Some time later they said there was extensive damage and that they had to charge another $500. When I mentioned not going ahead with it, which would have resulted in a full refund of my money, they dropped the extra charge to $250. It took a while for them to get the results and I had to call in multiple times to get updates and to confirm what was actually recovered. They were able to get around 1551 files back but couldn't identify what they were since the drive according to them was so badly damaged.
I agreed to go ahead with the recovery. Unfortunately when I got my drive back, there were multiple copies of the same pictures. In fact not very much was recovered and all my videos and most of my pics, music, and files were gone. So not only did I lose most of my memories and key files but I got set back $1,250.
While Staples, as far as I can see followed protocol (hence a 2-star rating), I was dissatisfied with what I got back, and maybe I'm being unfair but I may not give them my business in the future. It's basically because I don't feel that the $1,250 I paid is justified considering how little I got back. If perhaps I can get some of the money back and we can agree on a fair cost for what was actually recovered, I might reconsider. As for now however, I just cannot justify ever going to Staples again considering the killing they made off of me while recovering barely any of my memories and files. read more
