I was completely swamped with my own work and working a narrow hem on chiffon is not something I normally do, so I thought I would take it to a supposedly professional tailor who could do it better and faster than I could. Boy, do I regret that decision! There is a very specific way to hem chiffon which is NOT to cut first - this is exactly what she did and so there is no good way to work a narrow hem after that and on top of that it was uneven and she GLUED the front slit. I honestly don't know what to call this type of work other than butchery by someone who clearly has no idea what they are doing. You would do better with your local dry cleaner.

We brought in a tuxedo bought somewhere else, and he didn't try and push a sale of one of his own. I don't want to suggest bringing in last minute work, but if you do need it - he's your guy. Unless it's prom or wedding season, then you're just sol! All in all, I highly recommend Armen if you don't mind trekking up to Manyunk. I am very disappointed with my experience and will not return…read more I brought my wedding dress in on May 29 for alterations. It needed to be taken in at the chest, waist, and hips, hemmed to the correct length, and bustled. I came fully prepared with my shoes, shapewear, accessories, and even my veil so the alterations could be done properly. I was told my dress would be ready July 31. On July 30, I called and asked if I could pick it up August 3 and was told it was ready. I called again on August 3 before leaving home and was again told my dress was ready. When I arrived, I was handed **someone else's wedding dress**. After the confusion, I learned that my dress was actually **not ready and the alterations had not even been started**. I received a call the very next morning saying my dress was finished. Considering it had not been started the day before, I was immediately concerned that the work had been rushed. When I returned on August 6, the fit was not right. The back was extremely tight, and the fabric was bunching around my waist and hips instead of laying smoothly. When I expressed my concerns, I was told that I had somehow gained **four inches in my back in approximately six weeks**. I was also told the dress needed to be let out again and that I would have to pay an additional $125, on top of the **$625 I had already paid**. When I picked the dress up again a few days later, the bunching was still there. At that point, I was told there was nothing more that could be done. Having wedding dress alterations done is stressful enough without being repeatedly told a dress is ready when it isn't, discovering the work had not even been started, being handed another bride's dress, and ultimately leaving unhappy with the fit after paying hundreds of dollars. I took my dress elsewhere to have the alterations corrected. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not return or recommend this seamstress for bridal alterations. My advice- STAY AWAY!!!!

Shirl is also very responsive and I knew I was leaving my dress in great hands.
