FRANK the "'manager" from south Florida was a jerk from the start over the phone. I made it quite clear what I was interested in and how much I was prepared to pay (without any up charges). after waiting all day at home, the technician tried to upsell me, which I politely declined. he then said that the job would cost approximately $100 more than originally quoted over the phone due to the "material of the carpet"- mind you, it is a standard 8x12 carpet and I could just buy a new one from Amazon for the amount they wanted me to spend. I apologized for wasting the technicians time but was unwilling to pay almost $200 for a basic carpet cleaning when you can rent a steam vac from Home Depot for $40. he called his "boss" who said he told me over the phone initially it was a "free estimate" for someone to come down. never was that explained and I had also made sure to ask about the total cost in advance so that there were no surprises. it was not the technicians fault but it was a big waste of all of our time. additionally, the guy was subcontracted did not even come in a Stanley steamer truck. this seems shady and unsettling. will never call or recommend Stanley steamer again. We have, from my belief, been pretty good customers over the years and service was good until recently. Something has changed and may be due to the limited available work force. Recently we were having a large family gathering and called on them to come in and do a floor cleaning in preparation. We also planned on having them back after the gathering due to the time of year anticipating they would need additional cleaning. Believing we were all set, as, pointed out, they have been here many times in the past. We were taken off guard when we reached out to the driver who was in route but not arrived yet. Now, mind you, we did have a snow fall but our driveway was plowed. The driveway is relatively level, winds through the woods and is comprised of reprocess asphalt surface. No problem here, right? To our amazement, when speaking to us on the phone was making egregious false statements such as, "your driveway is dirt"; "your driveway is a hill" etc. He then lectured us that he can't endanger his workers and he notified his manager, assuming using the same lies he tried with us when no one knows our location better than us and the manager could have easily checked his records to see there has never been any issues previously. With that, the driver moved on. Reason, don't really know? Perhaps snow on the ground and didnt want to deal with it or maybe as simple as going for coffee and donuts on a brisk, wintery day. I called his office and filed a formal complaint stating I would never use their services again as I don't want any employee in or around my home who is willing to lie. Short time later the manager called and offered to send a different crew. We told him the same thing and that we don't want untrustworthy people in our home. In closing, I have found the company has forgotten the principles of customer service. Promises made means promises kept. Very disappointed in the Hartford Stanley Steamer. My mother is moving in next door to us and called and scheduled for four small rooms to be cleaned in order to remove the scent of the previous owners dogs. The house has no furniture in it and the rooms are small. She was quoted a price accepted and given a time same day. A few minutes later they called back saying they had a crew that finished their previous job early could they come by in 25 minutes. Sure (I should have seen the red flag). They arrived after a bit and told her the carpets looked great and wondered why she was having the cleaned. They said they read she wanted the odor removed but cleaning them would do nothing but make it smell like wet dog. She needed the deodorizer treatment which would be extra. The person she made the appointment with knew that was the reason so why upcharge when they came to the house ($42/room)? She reluctantly agreed to a slightly smaller upcharge and I stepped out for 20 minutes. When I returned they had their van packed up!! Twenty minutes and all four rooms were cleaned? With setup and take down they had spent less than 5 minutes in each room for a cost of $375??? The carpets were soaked and took 48 hrs to be mostly dry. Very little difference in the scent of the carpets after 48 hrs. Waste of $$. I wouldn't have really believed her if my mom had said they finished in 20 minutes except I had made note of the time I left (I live next door). As a landlord I have used some other carpet cleaning services but my mother (old school) "knew" Stanley Steamer was the best. They weren't. I will say the guys were polite and friendly, but the job was poor. Perhaps the vacuum wasn't working leaving the carpets soaked, but pro's would notice that. Plus 5 minutes per room? You can't suck up the cleaning fluid that quickly. I guess I now know why the crew was ahead of schedule and could fit us in. read more

I scheduled Stanley Steemer to clean out my air ducts (gas heat/AC) and the dryer vent. They arrived on time and were professional. Until the next day when my dryer took 2 cycles to dry my clothes. 3 visits later, a refund for the dryer vent cleaning and two handymen confirmed that they damaged the dryer ductwork. Stanley Steemer refused to own their mistake. So no, I don't recommend them. read more

Middletown, CT ..... Hartford, CT Stanley Steemer division. I had to take a few days to "cool off" after having such a bad experience with Stanley Steemer before I wrote this review. Stanley Steemer showed up at my house last week and just about TRIPLED the price I was provided "on the recorded line" when I scheduled with them the day before.   I shared EXACTLY what I wanted to be cleaned and discussed in detail with scheduler. When SS arrived we reviewed the work order and they had the audacity to tell me that there must have been a miscommunication. I wanted 2 shower stalls grout and tile cleaned and the bathroom floors (I didn't ask for the bathroom floors.... The phone rep put them in. I told her I would add them depending on what my total is but I really just wanted the stalls. She said the 2 stalls and two floors would come to $180. so I agreed. My original quote was for $180. Then the guy that came to the house and re quoted me $500. WHat?! That's crazy... that's not what we discussed. He went outside. Called his manager came back in.... the manager (Kyle) told him there's not much he can do but he'll give me 15% off. Which brought my "new total to $380ish. ... Still $200 more than the original quote. That's still too much. So then I said okay.. no floors.. no clear sealant I will just do the 2 shower stalls ... "How much will it cost with just the shower stalls?" .... The SS Rep said.."Oh, well if you take items off then you don't get the 15% off. So no 15% off. "Sorry there's nothing I can do" Are you serious. So ridiculous (Hindsight I should have told him "no thank you" and refused the service right then but unfortunately I didn't) So I finally agreed to half the services originally discussed and $100 more than originally agreed upon) I really thought I was paying for a service that had special techniques and equipment. All in all, they did a horrible job cleaning my grout. I literally can do a better job with a shower spray cleaner, a scrub brush, and paper towels. They definitely did not clean every grout line. I paid so much money for such a horrible service. I could have paid for a cleaning lady that would have cleaned my entire house and the shower stalls much better for a better price. Their special cleaning equipment did not even remove simple soap scum build up, let alone deep cleaning the grout. This entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will be sharing my experience with others so they don't go through the same thing I did. Overall very disappointed read more

I recently used Stanley Steemer of Hartford to clean the vents and ducts of my HVAC system. Their equipment was impressive. We were charged over $850 to clean all the ducts in our 2 story home. I assume the ducts were cleaned well, but really have no way to check. Unfortunately the crew left a bit of a mess. They left smudges of dirt on the ceilings near many of the ducts. There were dirt/lint balls all over our house. Under the vent in our closet, there was dirt and debris on all of our clothes, they apparently made no effort to cover them. They did not properly reinstall many of the vent covers, leaving them half sticking out from the ceilings and floors. They left metal shavings all over my basement floor where they cut holes in our hvac ductwork. I really expected a professional job given the price, but all these small errors made the overall experience less than desireable. I would not recommend this company. read more

My service was beautiful and so worth it. My basement bathroom had a backup and level 3 sewer water floated throughout under my brand new vinyl plank floating floor. Well a foot of drywall had to come off, cabinets gone and in the end after it all dried out there remained a layer of dust that I felt on my skin whenever I went there. This service was like a wet vacuum I think and it's fresh, clean and ready for the rebuild. It almost feels like the floors are in already. Thank you Stanley Steemer. These jokers (Hartford, CT franchise) showed up at my house and TRIPLED the price I was provided "on the recorded line" when I scheduled with them the day before. Ended up having a surprise day off and noticed I needed the HVAC vents cleaned. Called to just have them come out but they said it needed to be evaluated first. Took a day off and the guy came did the "evaluation" and quoted me I said fine give me a few weeks and ill get it scheduled when I could get another day off. I called on 05/22 and scheduled for 05/24 for between 1 and 5. At 320 I called and asked about it and they said should be fine arrival will just be closer to 5 ok i guess. I call again at 445 since I still haven't heard anything and get put on hold for a few minutes while he checks on the crew. The guy gets back on with me and says they have ran into some difficulties on previous sites and will now be to my home around 8pm tonight when I have kids that's no going to fly. So not only did I burn another vacation day and sit around my house but now I have to figure out who I'm going to call to get them cleaned. I tried to give these guys a shot as I heard a commercial on the radio for them and figured why not. If they are running late its not hard to let the customer know its very basic 16 year old knows this. In total I wasted 2 vacation days and about $500 with taking the time off work for no reason. I have been a frequent and loyal customer of my local company for years . The last service I received was much different ! I had a sofa cleaned deodorized and protective treatment which I do at least twice year. The sofa is an expensive piece and I want to last and it's about six years old. The service team came out and did the sofa and I asked them to clean a 5 x7 area rug to which they remarked that that rug needed special handling in their facility which was fairly over 200 for a small area . I was a bit Rey but agreed to do so . The sofa initially looked clean while wet but after a couple of days and when dried was discolored and not really presentable and the rug came back and I assumed it was cleaned but it smelled so bad that I can't really use it. I spent almost 350 plus tip .. and The sofa was removed from my house and donated to a needy family and the rug is awaiting same fate and it's heart breaking to spend this kind of money to have this happen to a senior citizen with a budget to follow! I ve called the office and asked to speak to the manager and again repeating that and was told she left a voicemail not on my phone ! No record of any calls from her I want a refund and have no idea of why they will not handle this issue after many years working with this Stratford Ct location . If there was a zero, I would give Stanley a zero. While my living area came out fine, even with some spot removal areas, they ruined my stairs. They pretreated some coffee spots and some other spots and they now look like bleach stains. Called them back to fix and the techs said they couldn't fix THAT. They did it!!! I was told my the manager that it was my fault for using another product on my carpet which brought the stain to the surface. The only product I used was the Stanley Steemer spot remover. Again my fault for dropping something acidic on the stairs? I'm no. The coffee stain in the living room area doesn't have acidic stains after they cleaned it. Said they wouldn't refund but then another manager said they would give me a $50 refund or a$100 gift very to use within a year. Oh boy, still my stairs have white spots all over them and now streaks from them spraying the whole stair the second time. Yet their products don't have anything in them that would cause that. Well it was something that interacted with my carpet. $50 wont restore the stairs to what they should actually look like. read more

Yesterday, I had 2 carpets and a recliner cleaned. I am so sorry to report that I'm so very disappointed with Stanly Steemer"s service. The techs called me upstairs to look at the first carpet after they cleaned it. They said that I could not walk on the carpet for at least 12-24 hours. I was working down stairs and did not have time to watch what they were doing. Today, some 26 hours later I went to check the carpets. Please tell me why the carpet in one of the closets still had the same cigarette ash on it that I pointed out to the tech yesterday before they allegedly "cleaned the carpet" Not only that but the 2 lamps that were in the same closet, on the floor (before they started cleaning) were in the same position they were in after the cleaning. How is that possible? To say I was pissed is an understatement. When I made the appointment, I also requested to have the sofa downstairs cleaned. The tech tells me that she can't clean it because the test she performed on it shows that it will bleed. It's a red sofa!! I didn't care if it bleeds, it a secondhand sofa, it stinks and needs to be cleaned. She said she could vacuum it instead. Needless to say, I was charged the same amount for the vacuum as if it had been cleaned with solution. The explanation she gave me why the vacuum charge was the same as the cleaning charge was so ridiculous that I can't even repeat it. Did I mention that I gave them a 15% tip? I assumed that the service would warrant it. Well, it did not!!! Not only that but the deodorizer which I declined cost about $80.00. Nooooooo! The absolute worst service I've ever received. Quote was for $189 for a 21x24 family room. Got the bill for $614!!!! They went ahead and did a few extra tiny runners 2x4 s and an 8x11 area rug for $239!!!!! And again, $239 just for the 8x11 rug! That was the same price they charged me for a 21x24 family room. My wife made the appt. she texted me the Purchase order showing contracted services for $189 q The field guy didn't understand what an agreement was. He just kept quoting me from his price book. The workers they sent were lazy, they cut corners, lied about the areas they cleaned, even after I called customer service to complain while they were still here. A few months ago, we got the people from Stanley Steamer to come and clean our duct work because dust and dirt was coming out of the vents. They came and ran some hoses in the vents for a while and left. Dirt was still coming out of the vents a few weeks later. My wife called them and told them about it. They told her they just do the work and don't guarantee anything. We paid them over $600.00 for nothing. I called another company which came and ran camera into the ducts and said they were still loaded with dust and dirt. They took the panels off of the heat pump and showed me how dirty that it was. That was where much of the dust and dirt was coming from. Stanley steamer didn't even touch the heat pump. This other company pulled piles of dirt, dust, and debris out of our vents that Stanley Steamer didn't get out. I was shocked, especially after we had just paid Stanley Steamer in good faith to do the job, which they didn't. Don't call these people, they will take your money and do nothing. read more

BAIT and SWITCH? I called to schedule an appointment, giving the rep the details of the rug to be cleaned. I received both a verbal quote and an email quoting me $127.62 for cleaning a living area rug (11 x12). When the serviceman arrived he quoted me $300 but could do it for "$260". I said no! I have used this company for years when I had a house where the carpets, tile and grout were all cleaned and with excellent service and at excellent prices. I live in Allen Tx and this morning had two pieces of furniture cleaned. NOt only was steaming not used, but my carpets are now wet. That is completely deceptive to sell a service as steaming and show up with portables that I could have rented from my local walmart or lowes. Because steam was not used, I imagine that is why the odor is still remaining (even after having applied their expensive deodorizer). This was the point of wanting it steam-cleaned! I've been debating whether to call and complain but decided to just leave a review. When I called to schedule, the woman I spoke with was so kind and scheduling went great. As for the carpet cleaning, not so great. I moved all the furniture myself before the kid showed up. I was told on the phone I could request he wear gloves and shoe covers, which I requested. I asked him to put them on BEFORE he walks in my house but he told me he had to set everything up first, run back out to the truck and THEN he'd put them on. So he didn't want to have to put them on take them off and then put a clean pair on. He wore no gloves and his face mask was half on and sometimes off during the job. I wasn't pleased with that because of the pandemic and I'm immunocompromised. Now to the carpet cleaning. I only had the 1st level cleaned. It consists of my entryway, living room, dining room, basically everything but the kitchen bathroom. It's a huge open concept area. I stayed out on the front porch while he worked but should have stayed inside and kept an eye on him. About 20 minutes into the cleaning I peeked inside and he was basically done. I asked him if it usually takes that amount of time to do such a large area in which he replied yes. It didn't look clean to me but I figured once it dried it would look better and Id be able to tell a difference. When he left I went inside and I started running my foot along the carpet. They were so many dry spots that he missed. I should have done that while he was still here. He rushed through the job and my carpet still looks the same. The service person that came to my home was extremeley unprofessional. My online quote was half of what they ended up charging me and they kept on trying to upsell me on different services and told me that he was not trying to sell me anything. I felt like there was a bit of a bait and switch going on. The online deal seemed great. I felt uncomfortable upon arrival of the service person who also asked to use my home phone, saying that he didn't have his phone and then pulled out a cell phone moments later. He also ate candy out of my candy dish, he asked first, but who does that?! Not impressed. Would not use again. A couple things, first I had Stanley Steemer to my house about a month and 1/2 ago where I was spent close to $1000 to have my carpets cleaned and tile floor cleaned and the grout sealed. I was not unhappy after that situation but felt the 2 associates were selling to me the WHOLE TIME they were here talking about a contract etc. I had them here last week and they started trying to upsell before they walked into the door and pushed a contract AGAIN...also I was getting the 3 rooms for $99 deal (yeah right). I asked them to do my living room, my bedroom and part of a hallway and could they just do a spot on the way into one of the bedrooms...they had to call their supervisor (wow they really empower their associates to make decisions) and he said no. I mean they cleaned 1/2 of a hallway and i asked for a swipe into one of the bedrooms....oh by the way I just spent $1,000 with them last month! Never again, they have lost my business. read more

First time I've used Stanley. I scheduled online for the $99 2 room/hall deal. I was actually having 1 room, 2 short halls and stairs. It took the coupon, but charged me the full price saying that the price would be adjusted when they came. They had no idea and did the same as other reviewers, kept trying to charge me more and sell more. I had to go to work, but when I saw the receipt when I came home, they still overcharged me. I've used STANLEY STEEMER several time to clean carpets and upholstery. I like their service and feel they do a good job cleaning. Yes, they do try to sell you other services and products but all you have to say is "no" if you don't want them. That doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that they regularly don't show up in the two hour window they promise and make all sorts of excuses. I hate wasting a day waiting for them to show up. The last time they cleaned, I had scheduled them for between 8-10am. They called me at 8:15 to say they were on their way. At 9:40 I received a call saying they were stuck in traffic. When they showed up at almost 10:30, I was told they were not stuck in traffic but were sent to another job across the state! I was clearly lied to. Another time I ended up canceling when they were 1 1/2 hours past the 2 hour window. I had wasted a Saturday sitting around waiting for them. Very aggravating! read more
