How is it that in all my searching, this place was so damn difficult to find? And then, just driving down the road, there they are? I've been asking around, Googling, searching and searching for a restaurant supply store that serves the public and is open weekends. Finally, my search is over. Forget Bloodbath & Beyond, or Surly Tabla, this is the place to find good knives, kitchenware, and sturdy appliances. Okay, actually, I like Bed Bath & Beyond or Sur La Table for some things, but Standard Restaurant Supply & Equipment has amazing prices on some really great kitchen equipment. You never need to spend more than $80 on an amazing knife unless you think only granite and stainless steel kitchens are the shit. Wusthoff, Henckels ... fine knives, but you can that quality for 1/3 to 1/4 the price. Just stick with the German, Brazilian, or Japanese steel. Speaking of steel, be sure to buy a good steel ($40) as well as an Accusharp ($10). You'll be good to go after that. They've got restaurant china for $2 a plate. Two dollars! I spent $8 or something ridiculous for similar stuff. You can buy glasses individually or by the case, tongs, microplane graters, aprons, cutting boards, steel tables, stock pots big enough to cook a cow in, yada yada yada. They have EVERYTHING. I don't even know why I'm explaining this. I only sat down to write this review so that you could find the place ... you already know it's awesome, you just needed the address ... I LOVE restaurant supply stores. I could spend hours in them, finding all sorts of things I simply MUST have for my kitchen. So when I decided to take on a new kitchen project, I looked for my nearest restaurant supply store to stock up on the tools I needed. Usually I find prices to be cheaper at a supply store. In this case, however, prices were all over the place. Instant-read thermometers were cheap; glassware was not. I'll stick to buying glasses at Goodwill. Cheesecloth was about the same price as other stores. Baking sheets were a bit more expensive than elsewhere. Other items were far pricier than you'd find at Target, and in some cases the quality didn't seem better. Perhaps it was because they were industrial grade or food grade items? Who knows. There was, however, a nice selection of dishes and bowls and cake decorating items, and sieves, among other stuff. I was amazed by the huge immersion blenders and cool industrial-grade juicers (far sturdier and not much more expensive than the fancy household juicers from upscale stores). I'd recommend comparison shopping for appliances and more expensive items. But if you are looking for specific or unusual kitchen supplies, you're likely to find it here. And the staff were incredibly friendly and really seemed to appreciate it when new customers come in. read more

I've never understood why people register for china patterns when they get married. I wanted simple white restaurant-style plates, bowls and cups. Why, you ask? Because food looks great on white china. Because a chip on white china doesn't show all that much. Because you can put it in the dishwasher and not worry about it. Because it looks great stacked on a shelf in the kitchen. I looked EVERYWHERE for simple white china at a simple price to match. You would think this is easy, right? Nope. After nearly giving up, I discovered Standard where I bought my entire china set for $.50-$1.50 per piece. I've been in love with this place ever since. Need some new tongs? They have 10 different sizes to choose from. Need a paring knife? They have dozens in a multitude of price ranges. Want some bar-ware like they use in actual bars? They have it. Strainers? 12DEC2016 They have a new POS system. Amazing. Nothing else has changed. 20JUL2012 Holy minicomputer. Their POS uses DEC VT520s. These are 18-year old terminals. Amazing. At the checkout counter I stood there in complete stupefaction. How do you keep a POS system going for 18+ years? Where do you get replacement parts? Why haven't your employees revolted? Who would want to work in a place that has has the same POS system for 2 decades? They do have lots of cooking stuff at very good prices. We happily spent money. read more

YES this place is packed floor to rafters with the best restaurant equipment in town. YES they have great prices, they are located conveniently and there are nice people who run the place. THAT BEING SAID... the customer service is just atrocious if you are trying to place an order for delivery. ATROCIOUS. Delivery dates are promised and then broken. Calls don't get returned. No one seems to know anything when you try to go higher up. I have had a total of four orders completely bungled and late for delivery without so much as an "oops, sorry about that." The husband and I are hosting our first Thanksgiving in our new house, and he's so excited that he's invited 20 of our closest friends ( I act all put out, but the fact is that I love cooking for people). So, I had a deep seated need to come to the Standard Restaurant Supply store to begin accumulating all of the stuff we're going to need. It seems as though they're in the middle of a remodel, and it wasn't super organized. However, they have reasonable prices on anything you could possibly want or need to make or serve a meal. The coolest find of the day was a huge stack of those Chinese take-out boxes for under $10, so that everyone can take leftovers home. So freaking cute. read more

I was in search of Eco friendly (corn) disposable utensils and cups (long story), where should I go? Well the yelp review of the day was this place, handy for me. I can't believe I've never been here before; as someone who likes to decorate baked goods, I needed this place and never knew it. I got new cheap pint glasses, plates, serving wear, squeeze bottles, tongs, jello shot/dipping sauce containers with lids, and a cupcake stand. Oh yeah, I got everything I needed for my eco friendly event too. As I put my cupcake stand together I thought- must yelp. Good thing, they have everything for your business, event or personal kitchen. The staff was super friendly and helped me repeatedly both reaching things and walking me over to the exact item I needed. Downside, the POS system is so outdated and the checkout process was painfully slow. I'm watching two guys sit behind the customer service desk reading the paper while the cashier moved like molasses and a line formed. They do have a help wanted sign so hey maybe that will fix itself. Go when you have plenty of time. Be prepared that you are in a warehouse, there may be a layer of dust on everything but if your up for the adventure, its a good time. read more

When I opened my restaurant Standard proved to be the go-to spot for kicking tires and actually touching the items that would be used back in my kitchen. They have a great showroom floor with plenty of heavy appliances, table equipment and accessories as well as the kitchen and dishware items needed for outfitting a commercial or well-equipped personal kitchen. Pricing via quotes proved extremely competitive over the big three food supply companies and was even close to the major Internet operations. Being able to have a delivery truck drop it off, have items un-crated and assembled by their people as part of the price were deal-clenchers for me. They remain my preferred shopping spot for kitchen and commercial-grade products. read more

He gave us some initial guidance and came back to check on us every few minutes. He helped us find everything on our list, as well as giving us some great ideas for economical solutions. This store has everything, and with Jason's help, we were in and out of there in a reasonable amount of time. The checkers and other staff member we encountered were friendly and helpful as well. This store sells copper Moscow Mule cups for $13.99 apiece, in multiple styles (solid, hammered, barrel, etc.). You can even order online from their website and have them shipped which I'm doing for a friend's wedding gift this summer. Can't beat that price anywhere! I find something new every time I stop in here, dammit. Also nabbed a large pizza cutter for $4.99 and a shiny new half sheet jelly roll baking pan for $6.99. I wanted to walk out with a lot more, but alas, I'm only a professional chef in my head. But I feel like one every time I walk into this store :) read more

This is an awesome restaurant supply store. They have everything from the large appliances clear down to silverware sets. This place literally has everything you could use in a kitchen. Kind of surreal. Part warehouse, part retail store, this place is where you can buy everything from industrial deep fryers to napkin holders to cocktail shakers. It's a little dusty inside, and don't expect a lot of help on the floor, but that's the trade-off for the savings you'll find buying commercial-grade kitchen stuff on the cheap. read more

Standard business edicts would say to call me letting me know that she was still waiting to hear back from her vendor but that didn't happen so at 1500 I finally called and spoke to her and kindly asked her to remove my contact information as I waited long enough and found another vendor that carries them. read more

I can spend as much time or more wandering around Standard as I can Sur La Table. The difference being that the stuff I end up buying here I use a lot more. Most of the stuff I buy at La Table ends up sitting in my "good" stuff drawer or on display. That's not totally true 'cause I do use quite a bit of the stuff I get at La Table but it is true that there is a LOT more useable stuff in Standard. Much of the stuff I pick up at Standard is the same stuff that pros will use and not the rich housewife type stuff that seldom gets used. Although a lot of it is imported from China or other third world manufacturers, you can find some great stuff and a lot of times at a great price. I'm like a kid in a toy store here. read more
