At every visit, she included hypnotherapy sessions that I truly enjoyed and found deeply helpful in preparing for birth. She even created a personalized hypnotherapy playlist for me to listen to at night, which brought me comfort and relaxation throughout my pregnancy. Because of her guidance, I was able to connect with my son in utero in such a meaningful way. Glyol was by my side during labor and birth, and continued to support me after, especially with breastfeeding and postpartum needs. She also encapsulated my placenta, which has helped me tremendously during my postpartum recovery and healing. She has been attentive, kind, and so loving toward both me and my son. Her care, prayers, and presence have meant the world to me. I am beyond grateful for all that Glyol has done for my family. She is truly God-sent!

I'm so humbled by the positive impact she made on our experience from our first meeting through the safe delivery of our son. I think important to point out (as someone who was initially wary of anyone who felt too woo woo!) that Glyol's calm presence isn't some hand wavy thing...She's one of those rare people who have such detailed mastery of their craft that you feel safe, informed, and ready. As the partner this was super helpful to feel. She really listens, soaks up where the mother is at, where the partner is at, and then out of left field will say something that is just so so helpful and specific to that context. During the birth, she balanced supporting my wife, helping me support my wife, looking out for me too (making sure I hydrated and ate!), all of that also with trusting us and letting us drive our experience. I just can't recommend Glyol enough. I want everyone's birth experience to be as informed and supported by someone like her. And i can't wait for our little guy to know her as he grows. It…read morewas the best Mandarin class for young kids (5 or younger) that I had experienced, and I have seen quite a few in my journey with 2 kids. Note that her Mommy and me class is likely quite different in setup from the pre-K class I experienced, so please do keep that in mind. Olivia set developmentally appropriate expectations such as very short "sitting down" sessions, and lots of hands-on activities with craft and music. She set basic ground rules, like taking turns to speak, but at the same time could gently but firmly re-direct rule breaking and knew when to ask TA or parent help with kids that needed individual attention without jeopardizing the lesson with the rest of the kids (the pre-K class was 15-20 kids). She used the pictorial nature of the Mandarin radicals/characters and introduced the class to over 100 in ~30 weeks. My daughter retains over 50 characters a year later but alot of it depends on consistent usage after they are taught. Note the class did not have quizzes or testing, hence review was entirely dependent on parent motivation. We probably reviewed class material 2 times a week (5-15 mins). Olivia knew how to hold the children's attention and had excellent rapport with the kids. The ability to make storytime interesting in another language is critical as it is easy for kids to tune out when it is a language they do not know. The class consisted of a mix of students with differing levels of Mandarin exposure (from zero to 100%), and Olivia was able to balance that and reach the students who were tuning out. She provided some English instruction especially when dealing with a child with less Mandarin understanding. A year later my daughter still runs up to her to say hello when they meet in passing. I especially appreciated that Olivia included activities that required all students to speak. They worked on introducing themselves, and talking about their favorite food and their family. This might be less of an issue in a small group toddler setting but is a common problem in the typical Chinese schools with class sizes greater than 15. My kids have a strong preference for their primary English language and without encouragement to speak they might go through the whole class without speaking a word of Mandarin. My husband who does not speak Mandarin found sitting in the class with our daughter to be fun and they would review the characters or phrases learned in class together. I wished her Mommy and me class was available when my kids were younger, as I would have been the 1st to signup! The earlier you start in the 2nd language journey the more easily they absorb which sets the base for success in the later years. I have added some photos of materials used because that's all I have now, but it's only a small subset of interactive activities she provided.

It wasn't long until we felt very overwhelmed by all the decisions and challenges that faced us. One of our friends recommended that we hire a doula to help us with the process... and so the search began. We met with a few different doulas, however as soon as we met Cali, we knew she was the perfect fit for our growing family. We felt very comfortable with her, she was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, and her beliefs aligned with ours about the ideal birth. In addition, she offered us private parenting classes since our schedules were always conflicting with the hospital's classes we were interested in taking. In all of our meetings before the birth, Cali came prepared and ready to work. However, I always felt like I was meeting with a good friend. When my water broke 1 month early, Cali dropped everything to be at my side (even though it was her birthday!!) She even came to our house first to help pack for the hospital, keep me calm until my husband got home from work, and even installed our car seat (since we were so unprepared for such an early arrival!) I was a little unsure that I was going to be able to follow the birth plan we had put together, to keep things all natural, with no medical intervention, but with Cali's help, I was! She was calm and encouraging through my entire labor, and provided support for my husband as he coached me through a successful, all natural birth. We could not be more grateful. After the birth, Cali constantly checked in on us, and offered advice and help when we were having some difficulties with breast-feeding during her postpartum visit. We are so thankful that we can look back on our labor in a positive light, and we have Cali to thank for that. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a Doula.

I was so excited to finally meet her in person and I signed the contract right away. I immediately sent over my deposit and I requested that she provide me with a receipt for the deposit . The fact that she was initially declining my request for a receipt because she wanted to wait until after the baby was born was probably the first sign that trouble was coming. I went back-and-forth with her and asked to get my receipt for the money that I had already paid so that I could use that receipt for a reimbursement with my flexible spending account. She still refused to give me the receipt so I reached out to my flexible spending company and asked them if I had to wait for the baby to be born in order to be reimbursed and they said no. Finally, Marisol agreed to give me a receipt for my deposit. I found this quite odd since people generally get a receipt when money exchanges hands. My husband and I meet with Marisol around 36 weeks to go over the birth plan. I tell her that my plan is to have her help me labor at home as much as possible since I wanted to reduce the likelihood of medical interventions. I also asked they she capture some photos for us. Marisol explained that we should not contact her right away if labor starts in the middle of the night, only call when ready. She kept stressing this point and even emailed me a document that says to only call when we are ready for her to come. A couple of weeks later I go into labor late one night. My labor progressed quickly and we called Marisol when we wanted her to come over, no answer. I then texted her. A short time later I told her we were headed to the hospital. Labor pains got so intense that I was not able to monitor my phone so my husband and Marisol were texting. Labor pains were so intense so I requested an epidural at the hospital. Once Marisol got this information , she assumed she had more time. I guess she didn't take into account that that epidural was not completed. Long story short, she didn't make her way to the hospital until after the kid was born. Per her contract, she had 90 minutes to get to me. My labor was quick but she had a 3 hour heads up. I was actually disappointed that she came to the hospital because now it feels like a random acquaintance just showed up for one of the biggest days of your life and now you have to entertain them. She stayed with us until we got transferred to our postpartum room. At this point, Marisol was not a part of my birth story at all and I was angry. A couple days later I immediately requested a partial refund. She denied my request saying she was "available." Instead she offered me one additional 3 hour postpartum visit. I didn't accept that and said we could discuss this matter when she did her postpartum visit. During the visit, Marisol said she could tell that I "felt some type of way" and she asked me to share my feelings. I told her I felt cheated, I'm out a lot of money and she didn't have to do anything. It was her choice to not come to me right away, I followed all of her instructions. Marisol then told me she was actually on her way to me but she needed time to shower, clean her doula supplies and pack her doula bag. Once she heard about the epidural, she returned home to pack snacks. This information infuriated me....she missed my birth for this?!?! This is an area where you don't get a do over. I would imagine that with the nature of this job you would always have your supplies clean and ready. She ended up offering me 12 postpartum hours. I told her that was not what I wanted since I didn't want to think of things for her to help me with. In plus, it's easy to get help during the day. I ended up requesting my money back and threatening legal action since she breached her own contract. In the end she agreed to return 1/2 of my money ($1400) and I was able to avoid legal action. (I didn't mind taking legal action, this was an open and shut case according to the guidance I received). I'd say she still came out ahead, $1400 for 2 short visits to my house and a short 45 minute visit to the hospital after my kid was born. I am beyond bummed about this experience. So yes, I still "feel some type of way!" I'm not sure how you could say you were available yet you missed the birth. And I still can't comprehend the rationale. I'm so confused.

Hopefully our nightmare experience with Judy can help new parents consider what we overlooked when…read morehiring your nighttime doula. Our other doula was wonderful so don't get too bummed out if you run into a terrible one. But back to Judy - horrible experience. She repeatedly lied to us, constantly slept on the job, and treated baby both terribly and dangerously. If you DON'T want peace of mind for you and your baby, then I'd highly recommend Judy. Background: we hired Judy for a 6-week nighttime doula service and was initially excited given the picture of love, care, attentiveness, patience, and knowledge she painted of herself. We had cameras in the room and a Nanit over the crib so basing this solely off the facts of what happened. Facts: - Put baby exclusively on her tummy and on the couch and swing to sleep despite telling us otherwise. We only found out when I was waken up by her loud snoring and checked our Nanit and subsequently checked all the recordings from the first few nights. She lied straight to my face when I asked her about it. - Her routine/playbook is: put air mattress close to baby's crib, set an alarm, then go right to sleep and snore very loudly throughout. If the baby wakes up and starts crying loudly, Judy will get up to force a pacifier into her mouth. If that doesn't work, she will sit on the couch and sway the baby. - No compassion towards the baby: this is really the straw that broke the camel's back for us. We saw on the recording of the 6th night our baby crying inconsolably and Judy trying to rock her back to sleep without success for two minutes. Then she starts violently swaying the baby with our baby's face smooshed into her armpits and her sighing loudly in clear annoyance. - She also loosely wrapped our baby's poop-covered swaddle around her tummy (instead of changing her and swaddling her) and left her in the crib one morning. She denied this but thankfully we have it all on video. - Even after all of this, we wanted to get her side of the story so spoke with her politely before she began on night 7. However, when she had no answers for any of the lies she told us and for her unsafe actions, we told her we were uncomfortable with her continuing and we agreed to part ways amicably. Since she only worked 6 nights out of the 30, we simply asked for our deposit back, to which she repeatedly denied and ghosted us. If reading the above still makes you want to hire her, then I would highly recommend you don't pay her the full amount upfront. We did this and shame on us for trusting her. Perhaps she counts on new parents being vulnerable and busy and thinks she can get away with this. We have been swamped the last few months but now that things have finally settled down I will certainly be pursuing what's rightfully ours. Best of luck to all the new parents out there and stay vigilant!

Please also note the positive reviews on this page came mostly from new accounts and people with only 1 review] We hired Judy Eastman for overnight postpartum support and it's turned out to be an absolute nightmare. She is not qualified to be around babies nor does she have the caring heart to do this type of work. We paid over 10K in fees for 6 weeks of care and despite being fired after the first few nights, she has refused to work out a reasonable refund and ghosted us. Quite interesting to see her responding to reviews here as she has ignored every correspondence from us. A few things she did: - Repeatedly violate AAPA's safe sleep guidelines while she sleeps on the job for extended periods of time. She has put our baby on her tummy to sleep without supervision, left her asleep on the swing for 2-3 hours, she even put the baby on the couch next to her once while she fell asleep sitting on the couch. When we saw the video footage and confronted her about these actions, she simply responded by saying "baby is not going to die from this" and "if you don't want me to, I won't do it again" - Displayed no care for the baby she's caring for, she was more focused on getting sleep for herself during the night than anything else. She ignored the crying baby for over 15minutes while she was setting up her air mattress. She force-fed 3-day old baby the pacifier until she gagged even after I explicated told her not to use it until baby is a little older; she shook the baby violently when she was fussing until she passed out (probably from dizziness from the shaking); she also repeatedly swaddled the baby sloopily so the swaddle would come loose and cover baby's face over the course of the night. All of this is captured on our baby monitor. During the time she worked for us, she slept for at least 6-7 hours per night as captured by our Nanit. Given the severity of these violations, we have filed a complaint to DONA International (her certifying organization). Since these certifying bodies are making money off of verifications and renewals of certifications, they are slow to respond and not effective in corrective actions. Based on our experience, she should definitely not be allowed to be close to babies.
