My son had a bad experience in a preschool nearby. He ended up at Kids'n Things after that. Ms Carol is an elegant and responsible person. She is easy to talk to. The classroom is always nice and clean. Kids have plenty of toys that they can consume their time with. All the staff are nice. My son mainly associated with Ms Cristina. He had so much fun every single day in her class and made friends. He loves his preschool and teachers. I felt safe to send my son there. Right now, he needs to move on to a new chapter. We are so fortunate to have found the Kids n' Things Preschool in Simi Valley. From our first phone call with Carol, we knew this was the place for Kai. Carol invited us for a visit/tour to meet the 3's teachers, Miss Elaine and Miss Tammy. We saw where he would play, and learned about their curriculum. Clearly these kiddos learn through play. We could not be more grateful for the patience, the love and the respect they have shown Kai while he learns to be away from Mommy for the first time. They work with him, they sit with him, the talk with him, and they reassure him that his family will pick him up everyday. They are centrally located in the center of Simi Valley, open at 6 am and close at 7 pm to accommodate working families. They are flexible with the days that Kai needs to come which is extraordinarily helpful for Kai's mom, as she works in healthcare and her schedule is always fluid. We are also very pleased with the level of security that is provided. We love the communication between the teachers and mom. The teachers have been so wonderful since day one, even sending pictures of Kai throughout his day, knowing that it would give mom some relief seeing that he is doing okay. It is always hard to leave your little for the first time. We know that Kai is safe, making friends, learning to eat new foods, learning about numbers and letters and that the care he is receiving is everything we could have possibly hoped for. Thank Miss Elaine and Miss Tammy from the bottom of our hearts for all you do for Kai. We are beyond grateful for your loving care. Carol, who runs this establishment is great. She truly cares about the kids, and the kids love her too. When my kid had a bad day, she helped watching her to make sure she was no longer upset. The campus feels safe, and I like that there are multiple teachers for each classroom. My kid also loved the playground. Routine was huge for us, so I liked that there was a regular routine the kids had, that was written out so we could follow it as well at home before she started school. I can't say enough great things about Kids N Things. My two year old has been attending for a month now and I am so happy I sent her here. Carol (the owner) is a DIAMOND. The most caring and sweet woman I have ever met. She really cares about the kids in her facility and the families. Of course it's a business, however I have NEVER felt like Carol runs it like that. She is invested in the kids and the programs that she provides for them. Now the teachers. They are all AMAZING. My two year old comes home chatting about what she did at school, who she played with and how much she loves her teachers - like Miss Jenny, Miss Tammy and Miss Audrey. Our daughter used to go here for over a year. She was very shy and not used to a bigger group of kids being around. Having come from the only home based day care with only a handful of kids she's ever known, it was a struggle for her at first. The entire staff here was very accommodating and helped her get comfortable with her surroundings and activities. This is a great place for small kids and very secure location with cameras and auto lock doors. A very good adult to kids ratio as well. Nothing but great things to say about Kids n' Things! Our son is in the 2's class. Miss Jenny and Miss Mina are great- lots of years of experience and they take the time to get to know you and your child. Miss Carol and Miss Christie are great too. The teachers and the principals (I guess that's the proper term?) communicate with us regularly and work with us to make sure that we are all satisfied and our son is getting the most out of his preschool experience. They also make personalized arts and crafts for us with the kids, especially for holidays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. Our son was an early talker, but we noticed he communicated a lot better and spoke more clearly once he started going to school, not to mention his manners ("please" and "thank you") improved. With the birth of our new baby this June, our son started having some minor behavioral issues, which we are still working on. Miss Jenny and Miss Carol especially have been patient and kind with him and have been regularly communicating with us regarding his behavior. We appreciate the efforts of the staff to make sure that each and every child feels special and loved. Hoping they'll have space for one more once his baby brother is old enough to join! read more

Moved my daughter to this school one month ago and am extremely happy. Great teachers, huge school, large class rooms, very large outdoor play area and a very loving environment. Also, they have a little garden that the kids are growing and even some small farm animals. My point in telling you this, is that it is an environment that is fun and interactive for kids. My daughter is very happy here and looks forward to going to school every day. The best thing about it for me is that is an environment where my daughter can thrive and enjoy preschool. It's not too regimented and restricted, which I don't think a pre-school should be. Here a kid can be a kid. read more

I'm really disappointed with Kids N Things. I have 3 boys that attend(ed) the school (ages 11, 7 and 4). Below is my overview: Good: + Initially the price was outstanding based on the competitors in the area. + Their school is nicely decorated, with cute little animals that live there (bunny, chicken, lizard etc). + The staff are great! My 5 year old loves Ms. Christy and Ms. Angie. They really connect with the kids and I really appreciate all the time and love they dedicated to my boys. All the staff working there are great people and no complaints. + They have a secure entrance that requires a custom pin to enter the school. With all the scary things happening at school this makes me feel more secure. + For school pick ups, if your child is scheduled to be picked up (even if you forgot to call Carol and change the schedule like I did a few times) they will stay and wait until they can find your child. I loved that about the school. They would call me on my cell to find out whats going on and make sure they aren't missing your child. Needs Improvement: - In one semester Carol hiked up my price by 38% and one of my kids attends the school 30 hours a week less! Of course I was given just 5 weeks to figure out what to do for my three boys before school starts. When asked why, she states that minimum wage has gone up so she needs to increase my price... by 38%? Did minimum wage go up to $25/hour? - The after school club for the older kids is terrible. They have a musty and old room where the kids are constantly told to be quiet, sit still, sit in circles. My 11 year old told me it felt like they were in prison compared to their Summer Camp with Simi Park and Rec where they felt freedom, felt like the counselors were engaged, had fun activities, sports etc. - Snacks provided in the afternoon are cheap crackers or a slice of orange. That's not enough of a snack so I include my own snacks. I'm thankful that the price went up 38% because now it forces me to research alternatives and the prices for other after school clubs (Boys and Girls Club) is similar but a much better amenities and activities offered to students. Sorry Carol... I tried to voice my concerns to you a few times, but it landed on deaf ears. I wish you the best with your school and hopefully my feedback will help improve your school and the experience of the kids that attend. read more

Their 'lunches' for the kids during the week consist of McDonald's, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, and pizza. It's 2016. Who in their right mind is serving that 'food' to little kids. Every time I walked into Kids 'n Things, I was greeted with the friendliest staff. We evaluated several schools in the area to determine the best fit for our 2 children. At first, we had to ask a ton of questions. Mrs. Carol & her team of teachers could not have been more patient, friendly & accommodating throughout the process. The school is organized & operates so smoothly. We also liked the flexibility in the drop off schedules. We have been very pleased with the care & safety they provided for our 2 children. When my 3 year old daughter was ready to start preschool my husband and I looked at several in the Simi Valley area close to where we live (Central SImi Valley). We looked at Tutor Time (way too uptight, institutional and sterile for our liking.) We looked at the new Little Scholars Montessori on Alamo (very clean and new, but too serious and academic for our little 3 year old) and then we walked into Kids 'n Things. 1st thing we saw, a chicken, yep, that's right, right there in the front room just hanging out, he even let me pet him. It was very sweet. They also have a bunny, and several birds. And the owner Carol was sitting right there with a smile and greeted us very warmly and she got right up from her desk and walked us around. It felt very warm and welcoming from the very first minute we walked in. All the kids were engaged in some activity, the rooms were happy and filled with colorful toys and fun areas to play. The outside play area was large and I loved that it was covered in sand and had all types of play equipment, play house, slides, swings, ride ons. A small garden on the side. I want my child to play and get dirty. The other preschools we saw had rubber ground coverings and concrete and one even had that artificial turf. Kids need dirt, and kids need to play. The staff also read to the kids, play music, go over letters and numbers, do crafts and play games, all the things a 3 year old should be doing. We choose Kids 'n Things because it was the right fit for us. My daughter loves the staff and she is excited to get there everyday. I highly recommend this preschool! read more

Carol and all the teachers at Kids N Things have been a god send since I moved to Simi Valley. I needed a closer preschool for my 3 year old. She had a hard time transitioning from her other school. The teachers have given her great TLC in the morning when I need to go to work. My daughter has done so great she is fully potty trained now. They also provide drop off and pick up from elementary school . This is great for my 8 yr old. There is a safe caring place for her to go and both kids are in one location. read more

I actually attended Kids n Things back in 1984 thru 1987. I had a great experience there, and wanted the same for my kids. The business is family run, and I've had 2 of my children attend their programs. The staff do everything they can to ensure a safe, loving, and fun environment for the kids. The building was recently painted on the outside, and they have installed a new sign and gate. Inside, the toys are recycled out as needed. They have pet's - a bunny, bird, and chicken all enjoy occupancy here. Outside, they have multiple area's to play, as well as a garden for the kids to learn about plants. I'm very picky and if my kids aren't happy, I'm not happy, knowing my children are happy here, love the staff, and have great friends, I can rest easy when I'm at work, that they are in safe, capable hands of caregivers that will always ensure my children's safety. I find some of these negative reviews a little bit on the funny side especially the one talking about FOOD! Are you nuts??? They give you the OPTION to either buy their lunch or PACK a lunch. Now that would be something called common sense to just pack your child's lunch if you aren't happy with THEIR selection. It's like wanting your own entrees entirely different from everyone else's when invited to a dinner and complaining when it doesn't happen. How ridiculous. And it appears this MIMI chick didn't even enroll her child so therefor doesn't really have any place to stick her two cents in. MY POINT BEING...... I have been in and around this school myself since I was a child. I used to attend many, MANY moons ago. It was a great school then and my 3 year old son attends there now. He absolutely loves it. He tells me all the time how much he loves "his teachers". (Ms. Christy!!) We have been extremely happy with this school. His educational skills and verbal skills seem to be improving and they were able to get him FULLY POTTY TRAINED with the time they dedicate taking the little ones routinely to the potty!!!! We are so happy with the staff and the curriculum. The price simply CANNOT be beat for the quality of service and education your child receives. If you don't like typical school lunches being served to your child PACK a lunch. I will say we do, do that most of the time however we allow him to partake in the pizza lunch on Fridays. By far one of the best preschools in Simi Valley. Carol and her staff are the best and are more like family then just teachers. They really do care about each child and are very involved when it comes to helping your child succeed whether it's potty training,or helping prepare your child for kindergarten. My kids look forward to going to school everyday! I love the security gate at the front, it gives me piece of mind knowing they are safe. Also the big colorful classrooms and the new outdoor playground equipment is great!!! Lots of space to run around. My oldest especially likes all the tricycles they have there to ride around. During the summer the camp there is always packed with activities and field trips to keep your child entertained. After school pick ups are great too! I was super nervous to have someone else pick up my child from school. But carol and her drivers have made our transition so easy. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends!
