I was playing self-taught in bands for 10 years and the amount I've improved learning from Max is ten-fold. He's very patient as he guides you through the foundational rudiments and on to advanced solos and syncopation development. Max's discipline is mostly rooted in jazz, but I promise the techniques he'll instruct you in will translate to whatever genre you're interested in and he'll gladly assist you in any style, drum lick, or song you're feeling that week. (I, myself, play hip-hop, soul, drum & bass, and punk for what it's worth). He even makes house calls! Whether you're looking for advanced training or are just starting out, I really do recommend at least taking a few trial lessons with Max. Besides being a very talented musician and teacher, he's a very down to earth guy and is extremely supportive and fun throughout your struggles and triumphs. I can't reiterate enough how much I've improved as a drummer since I first started taking lessons with Max. But remember, learning any craft is half on the patients and work ethic of the student. I love that no matter whatever I want to make, Patti still encourages me, and seems truly delighted in my meager accomplishments. She is a true teacher, taking time to explain details again and again. She willingly shares details and knowledge from her lifetime of sewing, down to what kind of pin to use, to where to find the least expensive magnetic pincushion. Who knew? I've even learned how to make my own patterns! The atmosphere is always calm and focused, and I find it a welcome respite from my busy day to day life. Sewing has become a meditative practice for me now, which I look forward to every week. Patti is able to juggle every skill level in class, whether someone is just learning the bare bones basics, to the much more advanced. She's pretty well connected in the sewing world too, and hosts really interesting guest workshops. The studio is small and very tidy, with easy parking just outside the door. Classes are currently on a month to month basis, which is nice because it's not a huge commitment. I've seen students come for just a month, to get help on a specific project. Yep, she can do that too. And for the record, I've seen 2 men in class, everyone is welcome, West Side Sewing Studio is my little weekly getaway. I come home relaxed and focused, and I get to make cute stuff!

It is large enough that each daughter is able to find her place academically, socially, spiritually, athletically and is able to develop a healthy sense of self. MB is unique in that the Quaker values provide a calming, quiet powerful start to their day and help to build a partnership with their teachers. Our world is changing fast and we feel that Moses Brown is focused on the world that our girls will thrive in bc of their experiences and problem solving skills. No school is perfect but from our experience we feel that MB partners with us as parents to help mentor our kids to be the best they can be, to help make the world around them a better place and to feel Confident in their abilities. It is a challenging school but large enough to accommodate different learning styles. When there are tough issues that arise the faculty addresses them immediately. Our family is active at the school because we believe in the MB mission and feel blessed to be a part of the welcoming community.
