His meat is first class, free range (we asked him once and he looked disappointed that we had to ask) and local. He is generous with his cuts to the point that you may have to tell him to size it down a bit! And he will always get in anything you need - he can easily get more unusual items such as game in within a week. If anyone is unsure about using a butcher rather than going to the supermarket, this is a great place to start. I often go in and just ask what is a good cut or just what is best in season at the moment. You then can ask for just as much as you need, it is all cut on order with a fantastically big cleaver, and prices easily beats a supermarket's and it tastes so much better. I have never felt silly not knowing what to ask for and Chris always seems to enjoy that we're working our way through pretty much every cut of every animal that can be eaten!

The patrons are always friendly, and helpful. Like the Sweet Mart in Easton this is a store that is all about the customer. They buy in only the best quality fruit and vegetables, for example, and sell it at reasonable and affordable prices. It's all organic and locally sourced where possible - stocked full of love and good energy. The Asian food section is immense with every type of spice and raw bean imaginable. It's a good place too to find adverts and posters for local and ethical happenings. A great store that comes highly recommended.

There is also a substantial car park which I have never seen full to the brim. Inside, its bright and spacious meaning there is plenty of room to maneuver your wonky trolley without plowing down the locals. Prices are also good, and easily rival the adjoining Lidl's and I personally think it's much more of a stress-free zone than Lidl's. Additionally, there is a cafe for a sit down if you have had a long morning, which is always in use (mainly by the older generation may I add!) and the coffee isn't too bad.

Granted, not as regular as you would perhaps want, but a farmers market once every month is better…read morethan no farmers market at all! It's a pretty big occasion in Fishponds, and many of the locals (and not so locals) turn up in force to sample the sweet delights of the local(ish) farming comunity. The delish selection includes: cordials, juices, mineral waters, jams & spreads, baked goods, fresh fruit, veg and salad, meat, poultry and fish, pastas, pickles, cheese and dairy.

But it is in trouble. The main reason for the decline was the loss of the Boots, Woolworths and, what started it all, the loss of the bakery which was right here. The spot was vacant for a long time so it is lovely that it has been filled by a passionate owner and a gorgeous little shop, but I do wonder how long it can last in an area of town which is lacking its basics now. The deli is lovely, great cheeses and knowledgable staff ( I love hearing him speak Italian to some of his clientele) but is a bit on the expensive side.
