Slap bang in the middle of East Street Stan Butts' never seems to do as much business as Bob Wherlock, over on the more prosperous North Street, but he does have a good core of regulars, and does a great deal of business with local restaurants. The meat is not perhaps as good quality as at Bob's, but the prices are a good deal lower, and it is the cooked meats on offer that most people visit for. The best ham is particularly good, and he often has some good steak available. To be quite honest, I use this butchers most often to buy hearts for my pets, because they're cheaper here than elsewhere, but I see a lot of people stopping in for faggots for their tea. There is always a rather unpleasant smell of bleach, which I suppose is better than a rotten meat smell, but it does make queuing for some meat a rather unappetising experience. read more
