By far one of my favorite stores in the strip. I love everything about the store from the selection to the great customer service in the Deli/Cheese area. I love the selection of cheese the most. It's easy just to pick and go and not have to wait in a long line at a deli!! All the other goods are just a great too. I often purchase olive oil, honey and crackers. The items near the checkout are great for charcuterie boards. Open at 8 which I love but please note closed on Sundays. I must visit Stamoolis anytime in the strip. Greece is an amazing place. We love Greek Food so we love going to Stamoolis to try out all the amazing Greek Delicacies they have. Greek Risotto is magnificent and our favorite thing to buy there. We love the lemon and tomato risottos the best. The Greek Lemon Soup in a can is amazing. They also have Greek crackers, olives, pastries, juices, drinks, coffee, etc. I love Greek Kalimata olives the best and theirs taste like the ones we had in Greece. They also have Greek Olive Oil, which is so good. They also have Greek Spices which make cooking Greek Food at home so much more authentic. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS STORE!!!! They always have the most interesting cheeses, reasonably priced nuts, dried fruits, etc. A large variety of olives, house made hummus, spreads and dips. A small deli, all kinds of cured meats. There's a small selection of dried goods and lots of dried herbs. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It's a bit less pricey than similar stores in the area, and no long lines so you can get in and out quickly. Decently sized Middle Eastern and Greek shop that has lots of great products. It's thought to find some of their more rare products, such as Greek custard pies and unique Greek candies, bars, cheeses, etc. I also saw a few different teas, juices, and honey. While I was tempted to buy more, I just got the chocolate halva. After trying it, I only thought it was okay. Somewhat hard corners and not the best flavor. The pastries that were homemade, such as the walnut cake, seemed great. I've heard great things about them and I'd like to try them out. However, the imported pastries I'm not too sure about. Still, there are lots of great products at this store. Selection is fairly good and it's a decent way to try unique products. It's not as good as made to order Greek or Middle Eastern pastries, but these products are still high quality. Okay prices and virtually never any lines, too. read more

At first we thought she was kidding but she kept going on when I said I couldn't get to the basket because there were so many people in the way. She went on about how I should have said excuse me and got one anyway. I have no idea nor do I care it was so important to her. I put the items on the counter for her convenience and when she finally decided she would ring them up, I put them back in my bag. Saved her steps and a bag. I actually ate their food at Heinz Field for the game vs the 49ers. It took a while to find because I had very bad directions from the staff working that day. I didn't get them with sour cream and I thought they would be dry but with the sourkraut and bacon bits, they tasted awesome! They were hearty and a very big portion. This was the Last stop on the food tour of the Pittsburgh Strip District that I went on, and by far and away, this was my favorite shop of the lot!! It's run by two sisters who are super lovely and have put together a selection of the best food they can import especially from Greece as well as odds and ends from the rest of the EU. I found so many different kinds of couscous and lovely Greek pastries as well as gorgeous honey from Cyprus. I wish they offered a curated selection of stuff and gave individual tours of what was selling in their shop, because I'd sign up for that! Be careful not to mix up the olives. There's two different price ranges. I unwittingly mixed up olives of different prices which frustrated the old fella working the register to no end. Stamoolis is a mostly Greek/Mediterranean grocer. They carry tons of cheeses, olives, filo, Greek pasta, quince - pretty much whatever's you're looking for. I got some Baba ganoush and some Haloumi cheese. I was waited on by the daughter in one room, and the mother at the register. They were both nice and helpful. Their prices are very reasonable. A great Mediterranean food store. I was impressed by the quality and low price of the bulk spices. If you're having trouble finding a spice in Pittsburgh, then give this place a shot. There were also several trays of Greek desserts. Bot only Were there a couple of expected sweets such as baklava and honey cookies but also chocolate baklava and mixed assortments. The store's biggest selection of goods is in deli meats and cheeses. I picked up some hot sausage and found the price per pound to be the lowest in Pittsburgh. I also liked that the store carries some harder to find goods such as tahini. Stamoolis Bros is certainly worth a stop when shopping int the strip considering their prices and selection. read more

I shop in the strip all the time. I come to Stamoolis for a few things: feta, stuffed grape leaves, and olives. They have lots of Greek items, so if that's your thing, you should swing through. They have something like 8+ different types of feta (French, Bulgerian, Greek, Greek Barrel, etc.) I didn't know there were that many different types until I came here. The stuffed grape leaves are my bench mark for grape leaves. Dilly, lemony, a bit sour, stuffed with rice...I love these things here. I also get my olives for dirty martinis here...pick out your olives, get them weighed, and then fill up your container with brine and...voila! the best dirty martini brine you can find, for practically free. They also have a relatively extensive cheese selection, albeit nothing as compared to Penn Mac. It's definitely cheaper than Penn Mac though, so if you're looking for smaller quantities, or some more common cheeses, check here first. read more

It's featured in tourism websites and the Food Lovers' Guide to Pittsburgh, so we decided to stop in and stock up for goodies to bring back East. Sheep's milk feta, kefalotyri, mini-pitas, and olives were pretty standard - at home I get these from the Greek markets in Astoria. I really enjoyed the frozen lokaniko sausage which I actually bought to keep the other goodies cold on the way home - it had a fine texture and refined flavor. We also bought sliced Amish butter cheese and garlic bologna from the deli counter. These were excellent, and you won't find them in New York. Honorable mention for an olive studded hummus. The service at the counter was warm and friendly. If I lived in Pittsburgh I'd be a regular. read more

THIS is my favorite grocery in the Strip District and in my completely accurate and correct opinion, it is better than Penn Mac. I dont know why. I just like it better. Their dips are amazing. I once had a party and put the dips in bowls and then said nothing when people asked if I made the dips, which was great until people wanted my red pepper hummus recipe. : / then i fessed up. You can sample the different dips and cheeses, they have them all set up for you so you can just try whatever you want. Stamoolis Brothers is one of the Strip District storefronts, specializing in Greek and Mediterranean imports. They have a good selection of olives, a decent cheese selection, a variety of ready-made dips and spreads which are pretty tasty, and some harder-to-find specialty items like rose water, pomegranate molasses, different grinds of bulgur wheat, bulk fava beans, etc. You can also get packaged bulk nuts, dried fruits, etc. When I go in here, it's usually because I'm looking for feta cheese or Greek-style yogurt. This place is pretty good. A couple times I've had some problems getting yogurt here, since they have a tendency to keep the yogurt on the shelf until it's almost at its sell-by date, but on the other hand, they have the cheapest price on Fage yogurt that I've seen in town thus far. My mom loves a lot of their dips and spreads, so I get snacks from here a lot when she's in town. The one caution I have (besides the yogurt) is that they sell an inferior brand of canned tomatoes here, which gives off a very strong flavor of metal and ruins your meal. read more

Stamoolis is quickly becoming my favorite place in the Strip District. I often stop in for things like their amazingly delicious hummus or tabouleh, always at unbelievable prices. On my most recent visit, I noticed a sign promoting gyro kits for $12.50. This included a pound of precooked and frozen gyro meat, pitas, sauce and two bottles of soda. What an amazing deal! I thoroughly enjoyed the gyros and even used some of the meat to make Greek omelettes (with some feta and spinach). I've never been disappointed by this place. I was once in another Strip District store looking for Greek inspired seasoning and found it, but skipped it because it was so expensive. Fast forward to Stamoolis Bros where I find packets of seasoning for just a couple bucks. In fact, with each new visit I discover something I haven't noticed before. I don't make it to Pittsburgh that often but when I do I always stop for the wonderful olives and feta cheese. I visited on 8/23/19 and it all went down hill, when I went to check out and asked for a grocery bag. The clerk, who appeared eager to end her day, chided me for trying to walk out without paying -which was the furthest thing from the truth. I tried joking with the clerk to please excuse me because I was old. At that point she suggested perhaps I have dementia! I paid and asked her what city I was in as I left the store. I went to the Strip to buy cheese for a few recipes I was going to try. Since this was my first time buying cheese in the strip, I was planning on making my purchase at the more popular place next door. However, I ended up buying everything from Stamoolis instead. I like quality, but I also like a good price and I got both at Stamoolis. It was nice to be able to get what I needed for a cheaper price than some other places. I also love the bulk items here inlcuding the organic whole wheat coucous. My only problem, even though it was minor for me was the the staff did not seem overly friendly or helpful. read more

Sorry to say I had another problem, I purchased cheese this weekend that was moldy. I noticed that several cheeses looked like they were trimmed of their mold by the way they were cut....so I looked closely but when I got home and opened it I noticed that the cheese had a couple cracks and that there was green mold inside... We bought food & a bar of olive oil soap. She bagged the soap with the food & I said I'd prefer soap separate & she made a snide remark, what do you want me to do with it? She was not friendly, I greeted her first & said hello. She didn't respond. Obviously she is miserable in her job. I am a front desk secretary at a board of ed, am pleasant & realize I am the first contact people see.
