Jill is a wonderful person and a great piercer!…read more At first I was unsure as her business is operated out of her home. At first this can cause someone to question her legitimacy or quality. But let me assure you she is 100% legit! After reading reviews and seeing she was one of the most highly rated piercers in the triad I decide to contact her. She was knowledgeable, communicative, and kind. In addition she is very transparent with a great website with all her pricing. And booking an appointment is very easy. So I decided to book. She has been doing this for 17 years and it shows. She has all the proper equipment and everything is clean and sterile and she takes great pride in keeping it this way, even asking clients to wear masks (as does she). In addition she did not make me feel rushed or shamed when we moved the dots around. She clearly does this for the joy and only second for the money, so her kindness and patience and desire to get it just right and exactly how you want it shines! I got both my helix and conch pierced. (But she does every piercing imaginable.) I can't say they were painless. But I have had my helix pierced before and it was a normal level of pain and she was swift and as gentle as one can be while putting a needle in your body. Just to prove how exceptional she is and how her reputation truly precedes her.... About two weeks after my piercings I was at the salon getting my haircut. As I was instructing my stylist to be very aware and careful around my ears she inquired about my piercings as she was thinking about piercings herself. While explaining the piercings to her and telling her about Jill the other ladies in the salon piped up. Of the four women in the salon, including myself, three of us had been pierced by her or knew someone who had been and all were tremendously happy with the results! The only remotely negative thing I can say is her jewelry selection is very limited. Just basic steel barbels and hoops with ball caps with a handful of gemstone color selections. This is the one thing not made extremely clear on her website. So if you want something more sparkly come prepared. She has no issue using jewelry you bring with you as long as it meets her standards (so do speak with her before buying jewelry to bring). Bringing your own jewelry does not reduce the price (but this is normal among piercers.) I had decided to pierce my conch at the last minute and had nothing so I ended up having a plain silver hoop. But I had brought a piece I previously had for my helix (curved barbell with spiked tips). And since you aren't supposed to change the jewelry for up to a year you may want to do some research and invest in a piece that works for a healing piercing and fits your style. Overall it was a great experience! I highly recommend her! And will be going to her for any future piercings!

I wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate the one year anniversary of my stage 3b rectal cancer…read morediagnosis. I emailed this studio via their website, and explained my vision for what I wanted with my tattoo. I wanted a blue ribbon, with the words "Rectal Cancer Survivor" around it. I said I was willing to have the artist come up with a rendition of what I was describing. They told me they had booked me an appointment for the day I specified, with a certain artist. The day of the appointment came, and I headed in. When I got there and told them I had an appointment with that artist, they told me he wasn't in that day. They said they had another artist available, so I agreed to see him. Of course, he had no clue what design I had talked about in my previous email conversations. I described it to him, and he went off to create a design. After a little tweaking, I agreed to the design he had come up with. As he was about to put the stencil on my arm, he asked me if I was sure I wanted "that word" tattooed on me. I said yes. He put the stencil on, then asked me again. I again, said yes. He asked me a third time right as he had the tattoo machine poised over my skin. For a third time, I said yes. I don't think he would have asked me that question so many times if I had been a breast cancer survivor. My cancer happened to grow in my rectum, I can't help that, I didn't choose it. It is a body part, like any other. One of the reasons I wanted the tattoo was to help normalize the word rectum, and start conversations about colorectal cancer. It was like he was trying to make me feel dirty for having "that word" tattooed on my body where people could see it. For what it is worth, I like my tattoo. And it really has started conversations about colorectal cancer.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. No one greeted me or offered any guidance when I walked in, even though a staff member was sitting just feet from the flash sheets. There wasn't any clear explanation of how things worked, and since pricing and process info wasn't available online, I showed up not knowing what to expect. I ended up leaving without a tattoo because I didn't feel welcomed or supported. After sharing my experience elsewhere, I received several responses trying to explain things away. A more thoughtful message came later, but only after I identified myself as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and included screenshots of the interaction. I'm not writing this to be mean. I'm writing because I care. And because when someone goes out of their way to support a Pride event and leaves feeling dismissed, that deserves to be heard. I joined Yelp because I want to help others in the community find places where they'll be seen, respected, and welcomed...not just tolerated. For those looking for full context, I've shared a more detailed version with screenshots elsewhere, happy to share it if it helps others feel informed and supported.
