The staff here is so nice. They actually seemed happy to help. Not like most temp agencies that I've been to.

I am in the market for a tech job. A friend recommended me to talk to Hire Starter…read more I sent my resume to their website. Result: black hole. I told my friend that I did not get any response from my resume submission. So my friend sent a personal note introducing me to people in the company. A few days later, a recruiter from their firm contacted me via e-mail, then on the phone. We talked about what kind of jobs I was looking for, my skills, etc. That was in April 2011. I never heard back from that recruiter or got any lead. Maybe they thought they can't sell me anywhere or I offended them or they were just swamped. Again, black hole. After a few weeks of getting nothing from them, I reached out to another recruiter, which had landed me my first onsite interview with a promising start up. Since then, two other recruiter firms had found me, contacted me and helped me with my job search. So it is not like I completely suck. But Hire Starter can't seem to find me any leads when other firms have sent me many.

I worked with Emily Edgar at HireStarter when I was looking for software engineer job in Austin…read morearea. She seems pleasant enough but useless. I have 12-13 years of experience and not exactly unemployable skill set. She did not seem interested. She submitted my resume for exactly 2 companies and got me exactly one technical interview after 2-3 weeks. She told me that they have NO other job openings in all Austin. My recommendation would be to not waste your time waiting on them to get you an interview.

My wife was hired by a medium sized Austin business that decided that they needed to bring her on…read moreas a temp before full time so they had her paid through Command Center for about four months. During that time she had several issues with incorrect pay checks. Fast forward to now (she has not worked for them in several months) and she stopped in with a friend and they talked her into working a one-time job doing an event in San Antonio. It was an event that she really wanted to attend so she and her friend not only agreed to work it but also volunteered to recruit others to work it as well. They were promised transportation from the Austin location and pay from the time they arrived at the Austin location. Well, they arrived as required at 8:00am and were informed that they would need to drive themselves and were told they would be paid for using their own vehicles. They then get to the "staging location" and are informed by the temp agency representative that they would only be reimbursed for $15 flat rate for travel. After waiting around in San Antonio for a few hours, they are informed that they will not start getting paid until the job actually starts. Then after being taken into the "client's" vans from the staging location to go to the venue, they are told that they are working an entirely different event than they were recruited for. At that point, without transportation, they were stuck. They were then forced to work for 11 hours without a break and were not permitted to consume any food after they had been told that meals would be available. I have worked part-time special events for years ranging from small events to directly being an employee of a major league baseball team and an NFL team. I have never heard of any company that handles events working this way. Needless to say she will not be doing any more jobs for them. She is also consulting with her company regarding them changing to a new agency to handle the pay of their contractual employees.
