I found Stacy on Yelp. I was looking for someone close to home and who did not cost a whole lot for a trim. I called and got an appt the same day. Stacy did a good job for what I needed her to do. Stacy definitely has knowledge of hair textures. The place was clean and easy to find. Lots of street parking. I will definitely be back to see Stacy for my next trim because I believe you have to stick with the same hair stylist, so he or she can get to know you and your hair to get the best haircut. read more

I've been going to Stacy for the past year and a half and I love her! I only cut my hair once a year but I dye my hair every month and a half since I'm a redhead (see pictures) I know, to think my hair would be dead by now but Stacy does a fantastic job with the touchups :) She never thins out your hair if you ask for layers and she does perfect side swept bangs! BEWARE!!!!! I've been going to Stacy for mostly haircuts for the past year. I have to say that the haircuts were decent and some were uneven cuts but i dismissed my concerns because of the price and the fact that the studio is within walking distance to my place. However, most recently, I tried to get a balayage with Stacy and it turned out to be a disaster. On the day of my appointment, I showed her a picture of the color that I wanted and she said okay. I remember specifically mentioning to her that I wanted blonde tones and no brassy or orange tones. Let's just say that I completely got the opposite- After Stacy styled my hair, I noticed that the hair color was blotchy and it was brassy all around. Needlessly, I called her after I got home and explained to her that the color was brassy and orange- I seriously had three colors in my hair; red, brown and blonde. So, I went back two days after my appointment to tone down the color and get the red out. Unfortunately, she was not able to get the color to a neutral cool and the brass out. I called her the next day and told her the color is still too brassy, to my surprise she said she had done everything she could to fix my hair and there was nothing else she could do. In fact, she implied that the brass in my hair is a result of using other box hair color products. But, I had not colored my hair in 6 months and she was the last person to color my hair. Now, I have to go to someone else and pay more money to get my hair fixed. This has truly been an unpleasant and disappointing experience. I will not make this mistake again as I won't be going back to Stacy's hair studio again. read more

I am very comfortable when I go to Stacy's to cut my hair because she listens and when you ask for her opinion, she'll give you the pros and cons and tells you what she thinks. I feel like everyone walks out with a smile on her face/in their head about their new hair cut. At least I know I do. Stacy was responsive to my calls (for appointment) and questions about if she could do my hair and that way. I told her I might not have too much time since I called too late to book an earlier appointment, so she worked fast and flawlessly to match my schedule! my haircut in the back was crooked (longer on one side) in the back, and she was unable to duplicate the cut I wanted after showing her a picture. maybe she is limited on technique. I don't know but I had to go home and fix it up by cutting it myself. I'm more happy with the cut I gave myself. that's kind of sad and a waste of money. I have been cutting my own hair since I was in high school after a bad haircut (mullet), so it was hard for me to trust anyone else with my hair. I gave her a try after seeing one of my coworker with a nice layered cut and I asked her where she got her hair done. that's why I finally went to get a professional haircut. no shampoo wash, haircut took like 30mins. my hair started was waist length cut down to shoulder. the two sides were unevenly cut and back was crooked. all this for $35. 2 stars for her being a nice lady. quiet unless engaged in chit chat. big salon but only she works there. by appointment only. never going back again. read more

I hate to update my original 5 star, glowing review with an "A-OK" mark, but quite simply, my most recent bang trim was exactly that - just average. As previously mentioned, the way a stylist cuts my bangs is EXTREMELY important and I am particularly picky about this one aspect. I didn't have a problem paying $10 for a bang trim (although my former stylist provided free bang trims), since her cuts are already a bargain; however, I left Stacy's Hair Salon very disappointed after my visit. First, Stacy missed a few hairs, leading to an apparent uneven bang level once I got home and styled my own hair. Also, since my bangs are side-swept to the right, she mostly focused (maybe too much) on these bangs and ignored the bang hairs on the left side of my face, which are now ridiculously longer than the other bangs. And because her focus was mostly on the side-swept side, she accidentally (hopefully) cut hairs on the hair line close to my ear that are clearly not part of the bangs group at the bang level. I discovered this when I put my hair up in a ponytail and was shocked. Basically, the front bangs and layers (which are most important!) is kind of a choppy mess. It's definitely a bummer that I will have to leave. I really thought I had found my next stylist for years to come! read more

Stacy takes the time to cut your hair. My haircut lasted about 1 hour...no kidding. No where will you be able to get a hair profesional to take the time to cut your hair for 1 hour. She cut section by section, and doesn't rush at all. She plans out her appointments well. $25 for a haircut + $5 tip = $30. It's worth it. She does a good job. The only reason why I didn't give Stacy a 5-stars is because you kinda have to tell her what hairstyle you want -- she won't make the decision for you. I asked her whether I should have bangs or not, she didn't give me an answer - pretty much I have to decide that on my own and she will cut it as requested. I guess because I have no idea how I want my hair, I would have appreciated if she would suggest a few things, or cut a style that fits my face (i.e. what a stylist would do). Stacy is great with the scissors, but may not be able to give you a complete hair-styling experience. But overall, I'm happy with my haircut! read more

You really can't put a price on a good haircut. You also pay for what you get. While Stacy is quite attentive and doesn't try to make small talk with you, I can't say that I am enjoying my haircut... immediately after the cut or even now. I feel like I have an uneven layered cut/mullet. Guess you'll have to experience this one for yourself. read more

Update from my last review. I went to Stacy to get my 6 month hair cut and she did a horrible job. My hair has gotten long and Stay does NOT do long hair at all. It ended up like last time with the blunt jagged layers around my face, and the hair is back alot longer. My hair on theback of my head is about 10 inches past the base of my head when I have it in the pony tail. BUT the hair from my ear to my face is only 4inches past my chin. Although there are some gradual layers around my face, the bulk of it is that 4 inches of hair. It looks really bad. During the hair cut, I told her to layer my hair near my face because she cut it too short and too blunt last time. She tried to do it, I had to say it was okay after she was done even though I was not happy. I wasn't going to have her change it because it doesn't seem like she can do any better. I also have all these stray hairs of different lengths from my ear forward because of the layer technique she used. She does not cut specific layers for your hair. She takes a section of hair and then frays from top to bottom it so each section of hair is thinner with difference lengths of hair. I will definitely need to find another hair cutter who can cut long hair and not make me look like I have a shaggy mullet. I might even recut my hair again at another salon next week. read more

Stacy really knows how to cut hair. She carefully listens to what you want, then cuts your hair with patience and care. She'll even stop periodically to make sure this is what you want. Haircuts are listed as $30 which is pretty cheap considering the time she takes to cut your hair. The reason why I'm giving her 4 stars is because she ended up charging me $35. I asked her why there is an extra $5, because the sign says $30, and I didn't ask for anything extra. Stacy replied it's because I have long hair. Wtf....that seemed pretty shady to me. But since it was only $5 and I did like my hair, I didn't bother to argue. Next time, I'm going to get a quote from her first before getting my hair cut. read more

I have been going to Stacy ever since she opened up shop, and have never cheated on her with another stylist since :) Stacy will cut and style exactly what you want each time and doesn't try to create her own rendition of what you specify. In other words, when you come in with a picture of Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle, you won't come out looking like Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle on crack. I was referred to Stacy's by a sister of one of her long-time clients (did you follow me with that?). It was worth the trek out to what I consider the boonies of San Francisco. For years I've shelled out $50, $60, even $80 for haircuts that weren't bad, but they weren't great either. The hairdressers would listen to what I wanted and I would love my haircut, but feel as if I just got the latest fashionable haircut too. With Stacy (and I know this may be a bit biased), I feel she understands what I want as an Asian woman. She knows the shape of my face and what compliments it and is attentive to all the little details that I forget to mention. I love that she doesn't use a razor on my hair; she just uses scissors and I appreciate that. For a reasonable price, I leave with a great haircut. Stacy is an absolutely gem. Just the fact that she layers with only her scissors is enough to make me her client for life! Seriously, this is an lost art; it's so much healthier for your hair AND it's a skill worth paying for. I really put her to the test: I wanted my long hair chopped and asked for an edgy asymmetrical bob cut. We looked over a few pictures I brought together and got started. She checked length with me, and patiently shaped and layered with scissors only. I was extremely happy with the results. Stacy always does a great job! Since I started going to Stacy several years ago, I definitely noticed an uptick in compliments about my hair and get a lot of questions as to who cut it. My patients have even asked to take pictures of my cut to show their own stylists! She's efficient and effective and somehow manages to make the final product even better than I'm able to describe or imagine. And she cuts it in a way that my hair always grows out really well, too. I don't like to pay $50+ for a haircut. With that being said, I also refuse to go to Chinatown to save a few bucks. So Stacy's is the perfect price range for me. $30 for a haircut. Been to her twice - once for a trim and layers and then for a major haircut. By major, I mean, 8 inches off the back. I asked for an asymmetrical bob because I wanted short hair but didn't want to look like a bowling ball with eyes. It was a perfect haircut for the summer. My face was still framed with long strands, while the back of my neck was exposed. My hair is now growing back and my neck is completely covered again. Ready to go back for another cut! read more

I like Stacy a lot! I don't cut my hair often since my hair-management strategy tends to be to simply "cut it all off at once and wait a year until it grows back to the length I like". However, each time I am able to donate my hair this way so that's a plus. She is very fast to respond if you call and leave a message, and is pleasant to talk to. I have been going to Stacy for the past 10 years. She is one of the best hair stylists I have had. She is friendly and offers good advise to what you need or what's suitable when asked. Her facility is always clean and comfortable. Her schedule fills up fast, especially for Sat appointments. Don't expect to walk in to try your luck, it might work on weekdays, but not on weekends. The only little gripe I have is she, on a few occasions, was late for my appointment because she went over with the prior customer. To her defence, it's not her fault, at least that's what she told me. She's nice enough to take in people who are LATE for their appointments which caused the domino effect. So, I originally wanted to get my haircut on Tuesday afternoon, but she was completely booked the entire day, so I settled for Thursday afternoon. I made an appointment for a friend, and I. Parking was easy, not really a big issue when looking for parking around Taravel. We were 15 minutes early to the appointment, and thank god she wasn't busy when we got there, so we didn't have to wait. My friend went first, and when Stacy was done, my friend was super happy with her haircut! So, it's my turn! I always get a little nervous when I go to new places to cut my hair, because I had so many bad experiences with hair salons before. I told Stacy how much I wanted to cut off, and to layer the top of my head a little shorter, to create the look of more volume on top. Stacy listened to what I said, and my cut came out better than I expected! I love love love my haircut! $25 for the cut plus $5 tip = happy me! Stacy is a really sweet lady, and she's really nice! I instantly felt comfortable with her, and that's something really important when your trusting someone to cut your hair. I'm definitely going to be back, and my friend said the same. Stacy gave me a haircut that got me so many compliments. She's very careful and took her time in trimming layers to my shoulder-length hair. Many people asked where I got my haircut. Price: $25 plus $5 tip. I normally don't really care for a stylish haircut, but I think this was better than "good" especially for 30 bucks. I specifically told her not to give me "HK layers" -- pointy and go out to every direction. So I came out with smooth subtle layers that frame my oval face very well. She also makes costume jewelery and sells them at her salon. ONE bad thing about the salon is that it smells like heavy hair-perming chemical. But maybe I was there at a bad time. While you are there, check out the produce store next door (mexican owners?) They have very fresh fruit and veggie. read more

I needed a local salon to get my haircut and I did not want a cheap Asian salon to butcher my hair or give me some wannabe trendy style given to all customers (ahem, Irving St). I tried to do a walk-in, but Stacy said that she only did appointments (even though the door does say walk-ins are welcomed). I had to come back another day since I couldn't make her later times, but I can see why she does appointments, she really wants to spend the time working on people's hair carefully. Stacy gave me everything that I asked for: the layers, the right length, the side swept bangs. Before she even cut my hair, she took the time to straighten it with an iron and used some kind of mousse, so I didn't get some raw hair cut. What I especially appreciated from her was that she double checked with me to make sure I was okay with the length before she actually reached it. She didn't just guess the correct length and hack off my hair in a few snips. She also did not cut corners and use shears to thin out my hair. She took her scissors and meticulously thinned out my hair the longer way, which does not give me split ends. I trust Stacy to cut my Asian hair again. Cut alone is $25, so that's a great deal for what I got. Just remember to make an appointment with her at least a day in advance. read more

I walked in around 3 and asked if she had any times available today and she said at 4 would be fine. So I come back, peruse a magazine for the right length to explain and she executes exactly what I wanted PERFECTLY. I chopped off a lot of my hair and she got the length just where I wanted it, with the right texture etc. She has a cute salon on Taraval where parking was a breeze (mostly one hour but that was all it took). Stacy has been cutting my hair for close to 12 years now. It takes me almost an hour to get to her studio but it's well worth my time. She does a fantastic job whether I know what I want or not. Several times I've told her to just cut it in a way she thinks will look good and work well with my curly, frizzy hair. Other times I've known just what I want.
