On top of the Virgin Islands!

Beauty comes in many forms. There are numerous ways to the top of the world. You can either walk, drive, or ride the cable cars. There are a couple of shops for souvenirs and a place that serves Tex-mex style food which is really, really amazing! We went up on a cloudy day and in my photos you can see it looked like it was going to storm. Well it did, but within twenty minutes it was sunny, and beautiful!! What really makes this place so great is the view, plus the food, and then you add the awesome beverages they have. Then you end up with an A++ place. MAKE SURE, you bring your camera because this place deserves every photo you have to take! Granted, no photo, does justice for this place and its unmatched beauty. The cable cars do not run unless there is a cruise ship docked. So if you seek the adventure/view of that, but are not visiting the island via cruise ship keep that in mind. Although, upon your stay, make sure you visit Paradise Point it'll be worth the time.

Paradise Point is roughly a 10 minute walk from the Charlotte Amalie cruise ship terminal. You take the cable car ($22 for adults) up to Paradise Point, where there is a restaurant and some shopping. You can walk up to Paradise Point if you feel motivated too or drive up there and park. But you are really up there for the majestic views of the Harbor and to enjoy the famous Buckwacker. I could spend hours just staring at the view, watching the sea planes land and take off and enjoying a beverage or two. They have seating in the shade and the sun. They have 2 separate bar areas with TVs, so you won't miss the game. Plenty of shopping for souvenirs. Some cruise ships offer Paradise Point has part of their tours.

That's why the water is so unbelievably calm and clear the kind of crystal blue where you can watch fish glide beneath you while you float or stretch out in the sun. But there's a little history beneath all that beauty. Centuries ago the Taíno people lived along these shores, and legend says the notorious sea rogue Sir Francis Drake once used this peaceful bay to hide ships while waiting to ambush Spanish treasure fleets sailing through the Caribbean. Today it remains protected as a public park a perfect curve of white sand and glassy turquoise water where travelers come to swim, sunbathe, and for a moment... live the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

We walked from one end to the other which was a nice way to people watch and enjoy the white sand and blue water. We were there on a Sunday and it was crowded. Parking was easy to find. It was quite lovely. The water was calm. Wish we would have had more time to swim and relax here.

The biggest issue was the lack of organization from the start. We spent close to an hour waiting between multiple lines--first in the sun to exchange tickets, then again to hand off a second ticket. It felt unnecessarily complicated and poorly managed. Because of the delays, the boat traveled very fast to make up time. The water was choppy, and several guests became seasick on the way to the snorkeling site. There were also multiple issues with communication and expectations. We were not informed in advance that full-face snorkel masks were not allowed, which would have impacted our decision to book. The equipment provided did not feel clean, and we were told there were not enough flippers or beverages for everyone. The excursion description advertised rum punch, soft drinks, and snacks, but no snacks were provided. The rum punch was also very poor quality, and most guests declined more. While the snorkeling location at Buck Island was beautiful and the water was calm, the actual experience in the water was lacking. The guide quickly swam off and was not visible to the group, leaving guests without direction. Our time snorkeling felt short--around an hour. The return trip was slower and more comfortable, which we appreciated. However, overall this was the least enjoyable snorkeling excursion we have experienced. We would not choose this company again and would recommend others consider alternative options.

We knew we wanted to take an excursion from St. John and luckily, our resort (Ritz Carlton Club) was able to find us the perfect trip with Chris. We departed our hotel (with our own drinks and snacks), coolers, towels, diving/snorkel gear were provided. Chris also coordinated going through customs at British Virgin Islands, our first stop were the Baths. It was an amazing ride with the beautiful waters, scenic shorelines, and awesome captain. Chris is not only a skilled captain but a great tour guide having grown up and spending a lot of time in this region. He pointed out the top beaches and a lot of other landmarks along the way. We spent time navigating through the Baths (I suggest water shoes as the ground was fairly hot and some of the rocks, nooks, and tunnels you have to go through are pretty challenging for the some of us. We touched many of the other islands like Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and had lunch at the Soggy Dollar with Chris. Chris is personable, professional, and has a 'good seaside manner'--very skilled at the helm. Loved this trip, Chris and Local Legend made it one of our most memorable travels.
