Cruzan Cowgirls Horseback Riding Tours - Alien and I getting ready for our foray into the beautiful, clear waters of Rainbow Beach!

This is also the 1st time we got to ride horses onto the beach and into the ocean! I brought carrots for my horse and he loved it. I rode a horse name Warrior and my husband rode a horse named Flip Flops. Both were great horses! Our guides were Mary and Tarin and they were awesome! Our trip started on the beach and then went into the rain forest. We saw two colorful iguanas but other than that, we didn't see much else. Lots of mango and tamarind trees and a couple of old termite mounds. I just enjoyed the horseback ride. The weather was nice and comfortable with a few sprinkles. After our ride through the rainforest, we headed back to the beach so the horses could take a dip in the water. Rainbow beach is beautiful! The water was warm and clear and we got some great pictures of ourselves. Mary and Tarin were so accommodating in taking pictures of all of us. I highly recommend Cruzan Cowgirls Horseback!

Our small group consisted of one experienced rider, one rider with some experience, and two novice riders. The girls who led the ride were both amazing and were eager to talk about the history of the island and our horses, which were all rescues, save one. They shared stories of how the horses got their names, as well as how they'd survived on the island with no power for almost a year after a hurricane destroyed the island's infrastructure. Our ride took us through the old sugar plantations and onto the beach before taking us into the water. Before entering the water, we were warned about the behaviors to watch for in our horses that would indicate the horse was about to lay down in the water, as they like to do sometimes and what to do if the horse did lay down. My horse, Alien, apparently loves the water so much that he moans the entire time, and he loves swimming! This was not your typical cruise ship excursion where you walk your horse in the shallow water. We were in about 5' of water, and it was AWESOME!!! I felt like I could have stayed and ridden horses on the beach and in the water all day, and yes, Alien made his "ohhhh this feels so good" noises the entire time we were in the water. My shorts were completely soaked, but I expected that and I wasn't bothered by it! The warm sun meant they dried quickly. I rode barefoot because I was wearing flip flops, and I didn't want to risk losing them on the ride. It was my choice, but I recommend if you're not comfortable with riding barefoot, wear something like water shoes, old sneakers, or Crocs. I've added a picture of me on Alien just before we went out into the water.

He talked about indigenous species to St. Croix, the seasons, nature, and answered all of the questions I had about St. Croix. My horse Beauty was such a delight and easy to ride. The finale was moving into a clearing and seeing these cute little cows. I think my ride lasted for about 2 hours. Come prepared with your own snack and a bottle of water. I highly recommend you bring a fanny pack for your camera and wallet, although, Nick took care of holding my loose items and made sure my purse was safe and secure. Also stay tuned because they have some wonderful features developing for a couple's ride. Nick gave me all the confidence in the world, that's how I got to stand on top of a horse. Proudest moment ever!

Nick and Folksy were very friendly and knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the island. The horses were well-trained and clearly well taken care of, although my wife had a bit of a battle of wills with hers! Nick showed her how to properly control the horse, making it a funny memory rather than anything that took away from the experience. The tour largely takes place on the horse preserve/sanctuary that Nick runs, so it was really cool to see the different horses and learn about their lineage. Hopefully you'll get lucky and meet Monster, who is a beautiful horse despite the name. I can't recommend this tour enough, we're looking forward to doing it again someday. But just remember to wear sunscreen- it's a rainforest tour but the best (breathtaking) views are at the top of the hill exposed to the sun. Dab on some sunscreen and you'll be glad you went.

First we loved our tour guide Mikey he was fun and friendly, he was knowledgeable and knew the area. We went on a two hour tour that brought us to a few spots for pictures along with a river to take a dip. He drew on us with rocks! lol we stopped at a small restaurant with some food for purchase and pina colada's with a bunch of cats! They had a restroom too. Overall the experience was worth it we spent about $600 for a family of 4. On a separate day we went on horseback to the beach. It was fun but crazy!!! These horses are trained but definitely have a mind of their own. It POURED the entire time. But this excursion is rain or shine! There is a weight limit and shoe requirement. We stopped a a bar that had drinks and food this was a very well organized place. Overall highly recommend! Things to know: bring cash to tip the workers, wear closed toed shoes, have face coverings and glasses for eyes, bring towels and change of clothes to leave in your car. Bring cash or card for food, drinks and souvenirs. Bring cat treats to feed the cats!

The experience started with about 30 minutes of instructions and getting set up, followed by an hour riding through the rainforest. One thing I really appreciated was that we stopped to take photos something I haven't experienced on similar tours before, so that was a nice touch. We also had a quick 10-minute stop for food before wrapping up. We went on Sunday. Nice sceneries The only downside was that our tour guide kept commenting on how fast or slow we were going. Since it had been a while since I last rode an ATV, I was a bit jerky at times, so that felt a little unnecessary. Other than that, I liked the experience and had no major complaints.
