This recycling centre, or tip as it's more commonly known, is a fantastic resource sitting over in St Phillips. It's a little tricky to find but is well worth seeking out. It's obviously very important to recycle but what of the odd bits and bobs that the door collectors won't take for whatever reason? Well, this place takes EVERYTHING. As well as the obvious things like paper, glass and metal, you can also clear out the stuff that's always left in the bottom of your box, like plastic and cardboard. Going beyond that, they also, off the top of my head, take batteries, clothes, electrical appliances. There's even a special section for TVs and a gardening area where you can dump all the overgrown waste from your garden. A great way to unclutter your house and help the envorinment, all in one. Helping Bristol with its greener-than-thou eco points is the amazing tip, sorry, yes, recycling centre. So organised and staffed by what most be the most tolerant very large men in the city, you drive through and can throw all sorts of stuff over the precipice into their correct sections. If you want to get rid of it, chances are that they have a section for it. If in doubt, just ask any of the men and they will help rather than blindly going for the 'general' section. It does get very busy on bank holiday weekends and sunny Sundays but even with a queue out to Barrow Road you won't have to wait too long because of said organisation. I realise that I'm painting myself as a bit of an inept idiot with no sense of direction on here but it took me bloody ages to find the entrance to this place. Granted, I didn't have a map or sat nav but it really is not very well signposted. Luckily enough for me a nearby builder pointed us in the right direction. I'd just moved house and had no end of flattened cardboard boxes, I wasn't quite sure about just leaving it out with the household rubbish so I Googled recycling centres and came up with this one in St Phillips. I then had to wait for my amended driving licence to come through as the Bournemouth equivalent of this centre always required proof of ID to show you were a local resident. This one did not seem to care, you literally just drive in, park up and unload your trash into the correct loading bay - there are miserable looking men in high vis jackets to help you if you are stuck or to check you're doing it right but other than that it's got a pretty sound drive through vibe about it. read more

Centrally located and can recycle most household items. Can get a little slow and crowded so best to go early.

Poor layout, bad signage and shockingly rude and irritated staff. Spent 30 mins sorting and binning one car load due to poor layout and unhelpful staff. Green bins are too far away from the general and card bins making it difficult. OK once you know the layout of the place it will be easier as you can sort and load at home as needed but the signs could be a lot clearer. One of the employees was really rude and sharp with everyone that asked any question. OK sorting rubbish is not the best job but no need to take it out on the visitors. Try a smile, you might find it makes you a little happier with life. If you sort the signage out it might also mean that everyone that visits aren't asking the same question, leaving you feeling impatient. read more

i visited the tip today and met a man there called dave, who is one of the most helpful and kindest men i have met. his attitude made him stand out and he is a credit to the organisation that he works for. the saying that people always respect kindness is so true, thank-you dave you wonderful man, if the world had more people like yourself in it, then we would have no problems. bless you :) xxx read more
