A late September wedding and it was really chilly on the water, but the views are quite lovely. The holiday event was really nice and drew a large crowd. We didn't wait to see Santa, but we did enjoy some cookies and punch and we also got to spend time with the sweet animals there for the nativity. There were some school choir performances that we heard a little bit of. I will say that both times I've been here, the bathrooms were either closed off or very hard to find. Where are they? Does anyone know? No one had an answer either time I was there. So as long as you don't have to go potty, it is a great event venue. They also had a couple food trucks there during the recent event and the chili was really good. They had some interesting baked potato options too. My son and I enjoyed visiting the Tudor House and I thought the December event was well orchestrated.

Not being very familiar with the Portage Lakes area, I had no idea what to expect. It's tucked away in a residential area, so not some places you would stumble across unless you knew it was there. I thought my GPS was leading me astray as I pulled up to the cul-de-sac out front, before seeing the signs. It was an outdoor event so I didn't get the full experience of touring the inside of the house, but I can't say enough good things about the yard, the views, the setup, the food. The house/mansion backs up to the lake and the view is spectacular. There's ample parking but the overflow lot is a bit of a walk. My only criticism would be that the drive leading up to the house is very dark and narrow so it could use more lighting for night time events. This is an awesome place for an outdoor wedding if you're willing to chance the weather in northeast Ohio!

My mom is impossible to shop for, so I was super excited when I came across this Mother's Day special on the Akron Glass Works Facebook page. It is a beautiful old church converted into and art space right off of the University of Akron campus. There were about 12 people total with two instructors for the group. They gave a demonstration and then thoroughly went over all the steps with an emphasis on safety. I was a little nervous working with molten hot glass, but the professionalism of the instructors set me at ease. They're by your side the whole time... but you're actually creating the piece yourself. I have been to other glass blowing studios where the instructors are so hands-on, that you feel like you took no part in the entire process. Not this place. I definitely felt like I was making something and they were just there to make sure I didn't burn my hand off. The whole process took less than an hour and our pieces were available for pickup the next day. We each got to make two glass flowers which all turned out beautifully. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something different to do! We had such a great time!

Then Christian guided me through making my two glasses. I was able to choose from a variety of colors or make my own mix. I chose to mix blue and purple. Christian allowed me to do much of the work while he did the more dangerous parts while reminding me of safety. I was able to to pick up them the next day. I'm really happy with them!

But on Mother's Day we got to see a lot of the rooms we never saw. And got to ask more questions and take our time a bit more. All around good experience. You want to see as many of the rooms as possible. Pro tip. If you are doing a house and garden tour leave the house thru the front door. This way you don't have to back track the gardens. Out the front door take a right to head along the back of the house and the gardens. Don't miss the greenhouse. The Japanese garden and the really all the gardens are beautiful. It's a nice walk. You can definitely get your steps in. It's a nice afternoon. We spent about 2.5 hours. Could have spent longer. But we were hungry. This was a good experience overall and fun afternoon.

I remember going…read morehere several times as a child for field trips and I have always been fascinated with this home. Several years ago I found out that they have special tours at Christmas time where you can tour the house and each room has a different theme and you can also tour the grounds where they have Christmas light displays. I believe the tickets this past Christmas or $28 each which goes towards keeping up the estate and grounds. I feel like that's a fair price. There is so much to see in the estate and out on the grounds and I suggest coming here during the year as well for a regular tour. The Christmas decor is so beautiful each room in the estate is typically sponsored by a local business. It's so interesting to see some of the old furniture, dishes, light fixtures, truly whatever you can think of it's all so beautiful. They even have a greenhouse on the property where you can go to purchase plants, especially poinsettias for the Christmas season. They have a little concession stand where they sell things like hot chocolate, coffee, wine and beer, cookies, chili, soft pretzels, etc. Santa even stops by during certain hours where you can visit him. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to visit during the Christmas season and as a child I loved coming here during the year.
