A possible positive review with a recent caveat.
Over the last few years I have made a bee line for this fish and chip shop, still run by the same owners. Noted for fresh and individually cooked succulent fish... thick, chunky and well-steamed inside thin crisp batter... with chips to match, this had been an oasis in the world of fried fish, where you can eat in as well as take away. The other day I had a sit-in large haddock and chips with mushy peas for £7.40p, a price I didn't mind paying due to previous experience. However, this time the 'not large' fish was thin and stale; the chips had that tainted taste of being left to hang around too long . The mushy peas were in a pre-prepared tiny polystyrene pot, then microwaved. Lashings of salt and vinegar couldn't improve the taste. I am hoping that this was just an abberation but, sadly, I suspect not. If I am passing the area I might try it again, but more likely will give it a miss. It is interesting that it can take only one bad meal to ruin an outlet's reputation for a customer, despite previous patronage through positive experience. It shows that you are only as good as your last offering. read more
