No one welcomed us, no one offered to show us around, & no one offered us any sort of guideline about how things operated there. We were ushered directly to his room & there we sat. We tried to get him settled in, but every staff member we asked any sort of question to, it was made very clear that we were a major inconvenience to them. After a couple hours, my mother & I needed to leave due to inclement weather & an extremely long drive. We pressed his nurse call light before we left so someone could help him get in bed & lay down for a bit & to get a glass of water. It was over 20 minutes before anyone responded. We stopped at the office to let them know that dad was very dependent & someone was going to have to assist him with pretty much everything, but yet again, we were met with much resistance & attitude. We both felt VERY uncomfortable leaving him there knowing he was not going to get the care he needed, but felt we had no choice since we were unable to take him home. We attempted to call him several times after we finally got home, but he was not answering his cell phone. So we finally called the facility to make sure he was ok. The 1st time, the phone was not answered. The 2nd time, a staff member finally (& very rudely) answered & told us he had fallen out of a wheelchair & was going to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Dad ended up with 7 stitches in his face from the fall. No one from the facility ever called to see how he was. We finally went back out there to collect his belongings because he did not want to return to the facility. It was like a ghost town. We were almost to his room before we ever saw a staff member, who told us we had to walk back to the front desk to get our temperatures taken. He was able to get a charge nurse, who we tried to address our concerns with, but she was just more interested in just having us sign the paper saying we came to collect his belongings & told us any concerns would have to be addressed with a "higher up" during the week. We attempted to call on Monday to discuss the situation with a "higher up", but already knew we were not going to get anywhere, so we asked for a copy of the accident report, which was denied to us stating she "didn't feel it was necessary". The building, itself, is a beautiful facility that has a lot of potential! And I totally understand the staffing shortage happening right now!! But if you don't have enough staff to take care of the current patients, than don't accept any new ones in & treat everyone poorly!!

There so cool about it, the residents get a bit of a surprise out of her. She's so good and let's people pet her. I enjoy how they enjoy my emotional support animal, it helps me to. My guy is having trouble with the staff they don't wait for him to finish his restroom break they leave him in the bathroom and he can't walk anymore and no one answers the call lite from the bathroom so he's got to get himself back into his wheelchair and take himself back to his own bed. Which is a Huge thing for him to do, he's on oxygen level 4 and has stage 4 COPD with 20% lung capacity for oxygen in his lungs to supply his body with oxygen, so when he exerts himself his oxygen level drops down into the 60s. Cuz he overexerted himself. The staff is very nice and friendly and helpful and nice to me when I'm there for a visit with Smudges. I believe him when he tells me about the problems he's having with the staff and them not answering the call lites faster than he thinks they should, but he also told me that they aren't bringing him back his pain pills when he's asked for them either. So I don't understand how he's getting overlooked in these situations there. Isn't his needs important when he needs them? I'm a concerned Wife, Thank You, S.R.T.

My grandfather was in the facility for a couple weeks. He has Alzheimer's and had developed…read morepneumonia that left him weak and my grandmother was unable to care for him at home. After he was in the hospital for a few days they released him to a care facility to regain some strength so he could go back home. He took all the prescription for the pneumonia but once the prescription was done, many of the same symptoms started resurfacing. It was clear to us that he was probably experiencing another infection but the nurses would do nothing to test for it but take his temperature. Several days went by and he started to deteriorate faster and faster. He was having a hard time keeping his eyes open, he was all of a sudden not able to chew his food well or swallow and he was becoming somewhat unresponsive. The facility wrote it ALL off to "Advanced Alzheimer's" when just days before his medication was up he was doing okay. He eventually registered a fever when they took his temperature which was enough to get him back to the hospital where they did discover that he had pneumonia again. He was also SEVERELY dehydrated and had a horrendous yeast infection. He was NOT cared for at this place. I don't know how the yeast infection got so bad but it was just AWFUL. Once he was in the hospital and they gave him fluids and started clearing his infections he became more alert and responsive. If they would've taken care of him he would have probably regained his strength enough to have been sent back home so my grandmother could care for him. Now he's back in the hospital. I can't even being to describe how upset my family is with this place.

My husband went in to facility with no bed sores and was discharged with a bed sore. My husband would wait sometimes 45 minutes for someone to come help him. I was there and counted the minutes. Worst experience ever for my husband. Facility was clean. Food was fine. My husband was there for skilled nursing.

I must say up front that I was skeptical about going to Heritage as I had heard several complain about the care they received when there. However, I had a very different experience! My stay was very comfortable, and productive. The staff showed genuine care and concern for my comfort and needs. The CNA"s worked very well together to get me in and out of bed and to care for my personal needs. They even took the time to talk with me about current events and how my rehabilitation was going. The physical and occupational therapy staff were very kind and understanding. Their consistent encouragement to push myself just a little more each day made going back home a reality. The food was always delicious and still good and warm when I received it. The atmosphere was always very upbeat and the decor was very comforting and homey. Should I find myself in need again, I will absolutely choose Heritage Specialty Care!!
