Rode the carousel which was great. Tried to get photos, but what a pain. Good thing we stayed there until the operator made it work. Our family loves the St Louis carousel so much we got a family membership. Our 4 yr old twins have some "sensory processing disorder" so they love the spinning around for multiple rounds. We typically go for 4-5 times but last week we heard the unofficial record was 10 times so we went 11. Each ride is approximately 5 minutes and 30 seconds. I came to admire this beautiful historic carousel from the 1920s and decided to hop on for a ride since it costs only $2. If you want more rides, it is $5 for three. All of the carousel animals are intricately hand-carved from wood, and the carousel itself is housed inside a climate controlled environment. There also is a cute little gift shop with some carousel trinkets. This is a very family friend place. In fact, I was the only adult without a child present. There is a private room that can be rented out for a child's birthday party or other similar celebrations. For the adults, it is a unique place to rent out for a photography shoot. If you are looking to indulge in a classic treat, take a ride on the carousel. This attraction is a part of Faust Park so this can be part of a day trip around the different areas of the park. Amazing slice of history to experience! I mean, really, how often do you get to ride on such a beautiful carousel? This carousel, according to the attendants, is 97 years old. It's thankfully preserved and now maintained in a building so that future generations can enjoy it. There's a little gift shop for kitchy souvenirs. I attended a private function here and the hosts were gracious and accommodating to us. If you get the chance to visit, please do so. Take a ride and just harken back to your childhood. Its an absolutely beautiful carousel. The horses are very detailed and original, great preservation efforts. I hear its from the '20s. And the cost only $2 a ride or $5 for 3, great deal and you get quite a bit of time per ride. I definitely enjoyed it and the kiddo I was with had a blast (2 adults and a child). The young man on the PA system was clearly enjoying his time working at this historic attraction. He was very pleasant and getting the riders into the experience. There are only a couple of things keeping me from giving this 5 stars. First of all would be the lady at the ticket counter. You work at a freaking carousel, how awesome and fun is that? How awesome and more fun would it be if you smiled and acted like you wanted to be there? She definitely didn't greet us as we approached her register and complained about said register and wishing she just had a cash box. Cool, keep it to yourself and tell your boss. The only other thing I didn't love was that I couldn't hear the music when the ride was going. I don't think they were playing their typical music since its Christmas time and it wasn't coming from the organ, it my first time there so I don't know if that's the way it normally is or not. To the people giving this 1 star, really? The rules are posted and clearly communicated, both on site, online and verbally stated. Sorry places have rules and especially places that are preserving a historic attraction and public venue. This place is wonderful, just a few tweaks and it was be perfect. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. All I wanted was for my 3 year old cousin to have an amazing birthday party but Scott got in the way of that. During our party, Scott was very snappy at us. But what I had a problem with was him saying "This is the worst group I ever had" just because they had to sweep the floor and move a few chairs after we we cleaned up. Having a party for your child is stressful enough, but Scott made the stress worse for my cousin's parents. The party ended at 12:30 and there was no group after us, so we didn't worry about getting out of there right at 12:30. They ended up charging my aunt and uncle $80 per 15 minutes they had to clean up which is just ridiculous if there was no party after. They could of got up and left right after 12:30, but instead they cleaned up. The fact that they got mad about doing the bare minimum of fixing up a few chairs is absurd. If you are thinking about having a party here think twice. Scott will ruin your day. read more

I would give this place a four if the wedding coordinator that works there was easier to work with. There are so many rules about decorating, every question we had was squashed. This is a venue, so in order to transform it into a beautiful reception space, things have to be hung, and attached, etc. There was always a complaint or an excuse. While decorating the space, the heating system was so hot everybody was sweating. The coordinator stated she could do nothing about it because it was on the system at the main building. We just had to close the doors, well it's very difficult to keep the doors closed when you are bringing in loads and loads of items to decorate a space. Nothing was ever her fault, she always blamed someone, or something, or had an excuse. read more

This place is pretty spectacular! After leaving the Butterfly House across the street, my friend and I couldn't resist checking out the carousel. We couldn't even believe a place like this even existed. We thought it would be overrun my kids and over priced, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was only $1 per ride and pretty organized! We were sold! After a short wait we were able to select our spot on the carousel and enjoy the experience. I seriously had a blast! My friend had to drag me out because I wanted to ride again. This was a nice experience. They give you a rundown of the history here and the story behind the carousel's age and how it was revived, after you board but before they start it. It moves pretty fast, faster than any other carousel I've ever been on. The kids enjoyed it. The reason for my 3 star rating is because of the staff. They do not make you feel very welcome or at all like they are happy you took the time to visit. They wanted to sell my children on their heavily overpriced toys and when I told my kids that we wouldn't be buying anything and that we were there to appreciate this historical find and enjoy the ride, the staff became extremely unfriendly. The way that they spoke to my children after that, made me want to leave immediately. It was an unfortunate experience with the staff that took away from the amazing experience of the carousel. I can't say if we will ever visit again. If we do, I hope that they have different staff who can appreciate the support of visitors. read more

I would not even give them one star if possible. My two year old Grandson really wanted to go ride the carousel. We arrived ahead of a large school group so my husband and Grandson got in line first while I bought tickets. They were rudely shoved out of line with the man taking tickets blessing. He sarcastically told me there were 75 horses and to chill out. This is an amazing venue! I don't understand why people think they can takes pictures anywhere especially since the carousel is a privately owned facility. I was told the butterfly house also doesn't allow pictures unless you make an appointment like you do at the Carousel. We had a great time. I would highly recommend this venue. This venue was amazing! I have been meaning to post this review for awhile but time has gotten away from me. We got married July 20th, 2019. We started planning our wedding a year in advanced and I had my heart set on getting married and having our reception at the Butterfly House in Faust Park where it would be all outside. We knew we were taking a risk with the heat being a July wedding but we were hoping for the best. The week of my wedding the weather predicted to be 98 degrees on the day of our wedding. We knew this was going to be miserable for all of our guests and there was not really another option for indoor reception at the Butterfly House. My mom called the Carousel House on Tuesday just to see if they might have an opening for that Saturday to have our reception. Luck was on our side and they did. We booked it and they were so amazing to work with especially so last minute. Tonya, the director met with me right away to go over all the details. She made sure to talk with me about the options and the set up for the night. We were able to drop off all of our center pieces and items the morning of so that we did not have to worry about that before the wedding. Tonya also made sure everything was set up and beautiful when I walked in to our reception. I could not have asked for a more beautiful space. She also made sure all of the guest were having a great time and worked with my caterer and DJ well. Anything that we asked for or needed she made sure to get. I got so many compliments on how beautiful the reception was and the guests love the carousel. The carousel started after dinner so it did not interrupt the dances and speeches. The carousel ran all night and my guests loved it!! Also the price of booking the Carousel House for your venue is very reasonable. I wish I would have originally planned my reception here. Again, I can not say thank you enough to Tonya and her team for making my day perfect!! She literally saved my day and changed it from possibly being a disaster. We had the most perfect day because of her. If you are looking for a wedding venue check out this place. You will not regret it. read more

We went here to take pictures for a wedding, but the entire wedding party was rudely turned away. We were fully prepared to pay to ride the carousel, and were not expecting any special treatment, but we were told this wasn't allowed. They gave us some story about professional photographers in the past vandalizing property, so it's now only allowed for those who have their wedding there OR if you pay them $175. This is a prime example of a place trying to take advantage of a couple on their wedding day. I will never be coming here again and I will spread the word to my family and friends. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had!! I paid $250 to rent the room for my daughters 1st Birthday party and we didn't have enough time to even cut the cake! The employees were beyond RUDE and disrespectful! When we arrived, the chairs were supposed to be white and they were asking people to get out of their chairs to change them out and acted annoyed that they had to change the chairs. They only give you 15 mins to decorate and set up and then they take your time to clean up and tear down out of the 2 hour party time from 1:30-3:30!! We had to be set up, tore down and cleaned up by 3:30. If we were not out by 3:30, then they were going to charge me $60 per every 15 minutes over. We were rushed to eat, rushed to ride carousel, and then were told that the kids could only ride the carousel one time!!! I paid $250 basically to use 5 tables and the room for 2 hours of pure anxiety and hell. I was told when I rented the room that white table clothes and chairs would be included. Then when I called the day before to make sure everything was going to be ready, they told me I had to rent my own table clothes! I was also told nothing could be hung on the walls or touching the walls! Basically they want you to pay $250 to sit in their room and stare at each other. The kids were very upset that they only got to ride carousel one time for 5 minutes and then some had to miss my daughter's happy birthday song and smash cake to ride the carousel because they didn't allow enough time! I spent over $2000 on my daughters birthday planning and decorations just to be told that they don't allow anything and that most people just have a simple party without decorating!! Why wasn't I told any of these things prior to renting the space! I rented the space to decorate and have my daughters 1st Birthday be the best experience and it was a NIGHTMARE! I left in tears and sick to my stomach! I had to apologize to my guests for such a rushed and terrible experience!!! If I wanted a simple party without decorations, I would have stayed home and had cake in my home!! I'm beyond upset and hope this review helps prevent others from having the same experience I had! Save your money and go somewhere else!!! I can't get my daughters 1st Birthday back and experience back!!!! read more

This carousel is absolutely beautiful. Their horses dance in circular gala to what I believe to be the original music box. I give the carousel 5 stars. The one star is for the poor performance of the staff who was in charge of the ride. The microphone system is drowned out by the carousel music. Shoving it closer to their lips did nothing for articulation. I couldn't understand a word they were saying. I am hard of hearing. We were enjoying the ride when out of nowhere the ride stopped and I was asked to leave. I was singled out in front of the crowd. My friend informed me that the lady just said: "You have to leave because you are not following the rules. And you can't come back." That was said to everyone there while the carousel was moving. How rude and embarrassing. I wasn't breaking any rules that I was aware of. Unless pretending to direct the music box via air conductor is a policy breaker. Perhaps the rules should be posted so that people who are hard of hearing can read them. The staff needs training in how to talk to people who are hard of hearing. read more

Horrible..If I could give them 0 stars I would. It's spring break, so I decided to take my 8 year old, twin 3.5 year old, and almost 2 year old to ride the Carousel before we head over to the Butterfly House. We purchased our tickets and the children pick their horses, all in the same row and we wait. The man running the Carousel asks them their ages and I said 3.5 and almost 2. He then proceeds to tell me they are too young to ride as I must be standing next to each one. I explained we've ridden twice before and there was never an issue-in fact my children were younger then. He then became belligerent and told me I had to get them off. I told them this was unacceptable and his attitude was horrible. He then told me I could speak to the Manager and she didn't even get off her phone (she had a conversation going with her wireless headpiece) as she was issuing me my refund. Completely unprofessional! I stated a sign needs to say 1 parent PER 1 Child as the current sign does NOT state this. They should have asked me their ages when we bought the tickets-and not let them get on and me to have to PEEL them off the horse. This was completely unprofessional and bad business. I will never go back and will be writing a letter to their Foundation. read more
