I've never been more humiliated in my life!
On Saturday April 2, I placed an online order at 11AM for a Southwestern Chicken Sandwich. When I selected the "Pay Later" option, the website crashed and I did not receive an email so I waited about 10-15mins. Still - no email! So I call the restaurant to make sure it was received, but the restaurant was still closed. Assuming that this order likely never went through with no confirmation email, I figured I would get a call and then eventually walk over and get my meal (I live right across the street, hence why I love doing take outs there!). The call never came. The next day arrives and I'm thinking about placing another order, except this time I decided to dine-in. I ordered fish and chips with two drinks - it was fantastic. But the vibe was not right - the waitress only came by to check on me twice, and the second time being when it was time to pay. Odd - right? I get it, busy day and I'm just one fella. Regardless, I tip my usual 20% on dine-ins and I'm on my way.
Fast forward to today (2022-04-07), I placed an order for an Angus Burger w/ cheese and this time the order came through! 20 minutes later I arrive at St. Louis Bar & Grill to purchase the meal and be on my way. I was asked by the friendly waitress to pay for the meal, although it seemed odd that she did not have my takeout order on hand, I paid and did not think much more of it. And then I'm approached by a second woman, who is very quick to identity herself as the "Owner" and proceeds to tell me this:
"Hi - we received your last order, prepared the meal, but you did not come. So we had to throw away the meal, which is why we wanted to wait to see if you would come to prepare your online order." I'm confused, did she mean the order that never went through? Also, why is she being so loud? Does she not see all the customers turning their heads to listen in on this conversation? So I simply reply: "I'm sorry that you guys had to throw away that meal, but I was actually looking forward to eating that but I did not get a confirmation email. Let me show you my Gmail inbox"
She stepped back very uncomfortably and so I simply asked: "Why didn't you call my phone number? I was waiting for your call that entire afternoon!" And then she said: "We tried to call you that day at your listed phone number but there was no answer" I look at her baffled, looking down at the same cell number she said that I did not pick up from. I quickly look through the call history and explain there is no call from this restaurant, so I proceed to show her my call log. And then she says: "Well - when we called it said the number was not in service!"
Mind you this conversation is happening quite loudly, and there are several people chiming in at this point, including her staff. So I simply ask to please call the number now to confirm if it's "Not in service" and she says: "Are you calling me a liar?" I respond "No - absolutely not. This is clearly a misunderstanding, can you please call the number which you just stated was out of service to confirm what your saying is accurate, because I'm being accused by you as a no show, and someone who can't pay their phone bill"
This made her upset, and I could tell she was also embarrassed at the fact that I was keeping my cool and providing facts at every statement she made. She then insists in a very condescending manner that I will have to wait for the order to be made and there is nothing she can do about it. Now I'm really upset, so I stopped her right there and then and simply asked for my money back. She quickly darted to her office and put the money in my hand and walked away.
I have never been more humiliated in my life. I really wish she would of spoken to me in a more private manner, or at the very least in calm tone. I did everything in my power not to raise my voice but she just kept overpowering me. I was made to feel small, incompetent, and insignificant. I will never come back to this franchise ever again. read more
