BVUC saved my booty today. They are AMAZING! Here's the really detailed reason why…read more Background I am traveling to a country that requires a COVID test--and it has to be RT-PCR, and it even wants a printed copy with a lab stamp. I am fully vaccinated, but you know life these days! Well, I was on my way out of College Station to get a pre-arranged test in Houston, which would meet the timeframe for my flight, when the place canceled. They shut down the entire day due to a storm right then. Not only that but they shut down a different location, and then just decided to shut down all their Sunday locations. This place specifically advertised travel tests, and had been booked at the late afternoon slots, so I doubt I'm the only one who was in a lurch; I'd chosen them for Sunday tests for travelers, and because they accepted insurance. We all know Texas storms (today's for sure) will pass usually. When I asked the original place in Houston what I was supposed to do, the rude lady there hung up on me (probably getting another call from another stranded traveler!)! So I called BVUC on a whim--just in case, I thought. Calling Brazos Valley Urgent Care--with Urgency I don't even know who answered the phone, but I appreciate how understanding she was as I asked if 1) they could squeeze me in, basically right then for a PCR test, 2) if, indeed, the test said "RT-PCR," and basically quizzed her about my whole travel protocol. She even paused and double checked--and I don't mean put me on a hold with annoying hold music, but I mean asked the other people working to ensure her facts were correct--to be certain my information was correct. Yes, they DO RT-PCR tests, and she read the non-identifying type of answers from a sample result so I knew what it said. It was exactly what I needed. She said they recommended I pick the results up. I about fell over. The country I am visiting actually requests and original hard-copy which is lab stamped, but I have found out that is unusual here. Puzzled, I asked how long it took. "A couple hours," she told me. The only downside was that they could not take my insurance since this was not a medically necessary test and this wasn't like a drive-through facility where they are automatically reimbursed by the government for just the test. But they were happy to give me the detailed and coded insurance receipt, which, under the circumstances, I was willing to do because I was certainly in a bind, and actually, I was coming out ahead. Getting Results I guess since it was Sunday afternoon and not busy, things moved even faster. I had made my initial call around 2 p.m. I was in the office, having filled out the link they sent, by 2:20 or so, and left to wait for the results to be ready in a couple hours. They called at 3--literally, half an hour later. They have their own CLIA lab (if you are not familiar with that, it's the kind of lab all the people want your test to run through when they ask for it, and the reason results take a bit is that places have to send samples TO labs; BVUC has its OWN, and today, mine was the sample they needed to run through the system.) For the record, it also tests for Flu A and B and RSV. They even gave me a couple original copies, on prescription paper--the kind that can't be copied without VOID all over it--to take to the airline. These copies had all the info I needed, including a signature and lab stamp, and they even had the forethought to go ahead and copy my passport and add the number in case it was needed (some do and some don't require it). Bottom Line Not only did they help me AND give me precisely what I needed, but they did it with smiles under their masks and the most friendly and kind tones, from the person answering the phone, to the rest of the office staff, to the doctor herself. They were a class act. I am only back in the BV for a short time, but if I need any other care, I won't even consider anywhere else.
