Examples: I had a partial bridge (prepared by another dentist) break off (as a result of a filling she did which ended up destroying the tooth). I went to Jacobs, and she said something like, "Well, nobody sees back there." She did ask me if it hurt, and I said no. But no service. Another example: a part of a filling broke off of a tooth, upper left side, and I asked her again for help: no dice. She said it wasn't possible to repair. Another example: I asked her if she could "do something" about a cracked upper tooth. "Oh, that's cosmetic isn't it?" Refused to do anything. Another example: She prepared a bridge and didn't offer suggestions about the color. When the bridge came back, the replaced teeth were too light and really stood out. Her response: "Well, I guess you'll just have to live with it." She also refused to a cleaning. The smells of the office, the pain, the condescending remarks about my teeth, the anxiety about where the money will come from. Anything and everything about even considering visiting a dentist makes me want to take a double dose of xanax. After visiting a few dentist with no such luck in the past 2 years I asked my doctor who I trust immensely if he had any recommendations and he gave me Dr. Zora Hanko's name/number. It took me a few days to finally call but when I did I was surprised that i was almost immediately put at ease by the incredibly kind receptionist. I briefly told her my concerns and the level of anxiety I generally have and she actually listened, took note and genuinely seemed to care. This morning I woke up 4 hours before my appointment due to an already increased build up of anxiety. It turns out none of this anxiety was necessary. After sitting in the waiting room for only about 5 minutes I was brought back to the exam room by the dental hygienist. I can not remember her name but she was so sweet and kind. Then Dr. Hanko came in and since she knew how anxious I was, instead of getting straight to work she sat down next to the chair and asked me to tell her about my self, what my concerns with my teeth are and what she could do to make my appointments easier. When I was giving her my information she listened, asked questions when necessary and not once made me feel judged. Then she asked if she could take a look in my mouth. Part way through her examining my teeth I realized for the first time ever I was sitting in a dentist chair and NOT shaking with anxiety. I left the appointment with a plan of action for my crazy teeth, another appointment and absolutely no anxiety in sight. Best. Feeling. Ever.

My family and I used to go to Wydown dental ever since I was a child. But with going off to med…read moreschool and my family moving out of state, I've been looking for a dentist after I moved back to St. Louis. I would have gone back to Wydown, but turns out my dentist retired. So I thought this would be a good opportunity to try a new location. Scheduling can be done online and they email you the new patient paperwork ahead of time so that you don't have to do to it when you get there. For the new patient appointment, they are very thorough with your exam. Everything from gross examination to full x-rays, I was impressed that they checked for lip melanomas, any lesions, and even lymph node swelling in the neck area. Maybe this is standard for new patients for all dentists lol. I really appreciated that someone came in and showed the outline of how much everything would be before continuing with any cleaning or treatments you may need. My actual dentist was kind enough to explain everything on imaging and his impressions of my oral hygiene. I feel like I learned so much about dental anatomy/pathology in the 15 minutes he spent with me. Everyone at the facility was kind and I didn't feel like they were rushing at all. I'm so happy to have found this location!

Easily the worst dental experience I've had in 20 years. To start off, I received a call that they…read morecancelled my appointment because I had an insurance they had met their maximum number of patients on. To be clear, I did NOT have that insurance, but had had it some years prior when I had gone to a dentist in their system in another state. The girl I spoke to was blase and rather non-apologetic when reinstating my appointment. I should've taken the hint. When I got to the office, everyone was perfectly nice. I waited for a short time to be called back, and in that time I listened to two outgoing patients getting scheduled for a gingival planing. Two out of two. Remember this. I was called back for comprehensive x-rays in what I can only describe as the worst x-ray torture session I've ever experienced in my life. To be clear, I always struggle with x-rays for reasons I'm not quite sure, perhaps a small mouth or tied tongue. But this tech was completely detached, pushing and shoving the associated tool in my mouth with no concern for my obvious discomfort except once offering a dispassionate "sorry for any discomfort..." he took what felt like a million pictures, with no indication of when it would end. I noticed a chipped tooth after, which is possibly from this session although I can't verify that for sure. Then I got called back into another room. I was given something to swish with a "I'll tell you when to stop." The tech disappeared and I was left alone for 10 minutes, swishing. Finally the tech appeared and when I was allowed to spit out the substance I was informed that "oh no!" It was only supposed to be for 30 seconds. Then they measured my gums. Now let me be clear that I've been getting cleanings religiously every 6 months for the past 10+ years. Religiously flossing, brushing with an electric tooth brush twice daily. My gum measurements came back with some 4s and that's when they hit me: they couldn't do a cleaning. They'd have to do some deep planing. I tried to dispute this, said I came in for a cleaning but wasn't interested in a planing. The hygienist said was unsure and brought in the doctor, who was very affable but told me it would get him in trouble with "the board" if he consented to a simple cleaning when I so obviously needed a planing. So I said fine, schedule me (at this point I just wanted to escape this torture session) and they brought in the insurance person, who was very nice and estimated that my total out of pocket cost for a planing would be $200. I agreed that sounded reasonable, scheduled the appt for a future planing, and left. Now I'm looking into this group and see the private equity company they're owned by is NOTORIOUS for this. Unnecessary procedures, scamming patients. So I went back to my old dentist, and miraculously they weren't aghast by the sorry state of my gums. All that is to say, I would give this business 0 stars if I could. But I would recommend Alrata art of dentistry in Kirkwood based on my limited experience.

The front staff is very nice as well. I loved the two different hygienists there (Debbie and Linda). Both times, I felt like my routine cleaning were through and comfortable. They take the time to let you know what they're doing and educate you on HOW to maintain good hygiene tips. I've learned so much from just one visit. They also give you little goodie bags with a toothbrush, floss and tooth paste after each cleaning visit. Although the time to get into the back is virtually no wait time, when you're seated in the operation chair it can take anywhere from 15 min to over 30 minutes to get actually start the appointment. Last time, I was waiting in the back for 30 minutes. There are two doctors in this facility and most of the time, the doctors are working on multiple patients at once. The dental assistants seem to be attentive and also friendly. I will say that both doctors are little more stoic and down to business. Since my visits were just to get fillings, I can only speak to that. The doctors are very attentive to when they think you're experiencing pain so that they can give you more numbing to make you more comfortable. Like most dental offices, they are kind of pushy to get you to commit to another appointment (cleaning or otherwise). Not sure how other dental care costs compare but one filling without insurance racks up to $200, and with my insurance I still had to pay $77 out of pocket (something about deductibles). Last time, two cavities cost me $82. Tip: They will schedule a cleaning and not leave time for you to see the doctor! Make sure you make it clear that you want both since they book their appointments for cleaning and other visits separately. I had to learn the hard way and have to come back for a follow up visit TWICE... (why I'm taking away 1 star).
