If you claim the cost of a parvo test is too much to do regularly, why would anyone return a sick dog to you first as you request? $8k per pup would clearly be too much for you... better to surrender to someone that will save them. The couple in question had recently lost their beloved senior cat, a black and white tuxedo they had cared for over 18 years. This cat had diabetes for over a decade, and they diligently administered insulin and provided the highest level of care. They are clearly responsible and compassionate pet owners who wanted to provide a loving home to a new kitten. During the adoption process, they disclosed that they had previously declawed their cats, which they only did due to a serious medical condition. The husband has a heart condition that requires him to take blood thinners, making even minor scratches a potential medical emergency. Despite this legitimate medical concern, Ms. Boggs reacted with hostility. She berated and insulted this couple, treating them with extreme disrespect. She even went as far as to state that she would no longer work with their veterinary clinic--a statement that not only seems inappropriate but also unprofessional, considering the veterinary clinic only performs declawing in special cases where a medical necessity is present. While I fully understand and respect the Grand Strand Humane Society's stance on declawing, there is no justification for treating potential adopters in such a degrading and dismissive manner, particularly an elderly couple who were seeking to provide a loving home to an animal in need. A humane society should foster education and compassion, not judgment and hostility. If Ms. Boggs' conduct is reflective of the organization's values, then it raises serious concerns about how the Grand Strand Humane Society treats its community members no matter how sanctimonious she may feel about her actions. However, if her behavior was an isolated incident, then I trust appropriate corrective measures, such as retraining on professional conduct and customer service, will be taken to ensure this doesn't happen to another customer. I am in no way suggesting or advocating for all owners to declaw their cats--let me make that clear. I just feel this could have been handled in a more professional manner. You can say no without a savior complex. I reached out to the Grand Strand Humane Society directly and they have ignored my correspondence. If you wish to adopt, and not be treated like trash, use another location because this one lacks basic decency.

We now have two orange tabby kittens! $125 each and they have all their shots, microchipped, health records and neutered. If they have any health issues within 10 days of adoption, we can bring them back for a free check-up with the vet on staff.

He does have some separation anxiety but my other dogs do also, and this is a common trait with the breed. He was up to date on vacs and his medical info from all his vets was provided. There was no better way to heal our broken hearts after the passing of our darling yorkie, Wolfie…read morein July, 2014, then open our home and adopt a rescue dog who needed us as much as we needed him or her. I scoured the internet for weeks and signed up for pet search engines, adoptapet.com and Petfinder.com. On October 30, 2014, a male yorkie mix posted on petfinder.com. He called out to me. His name was Teddy and he was available through LowCountry Animal Rescue in Summerville. I completed the extensive on-line application. They checked our veterinary reference and made a home visit. As rescue groups look to make the best match, we were thrilled when we received that approval phone call the next day. You see, while we do have a fenced in yard and retired, sometimes, the match is to a household with multiple dogs, or children ... both, of which we had neither. We went to a 'meet and greet' at the PetSmart on Rivers Avenue, the next day. Would Teddy like us? Would hub like Teddy? It was love at first sight and we loved him every minute he shared our lives until he passed almost 7 years later. We had huge holes in our hearts but knew the time was right to fill the void with another precious soul who needed a fresh start. Back to the search engines. The first email in my inbox on New's Year's Day was from adoptapet.com. I couldn't believe my eyes when Clarence's face popped up on my screen, up for adoption through LowCountry Animal Rescue. I had submitted an updated application a month earlier and was approved. As such, I sent them a message with lots of questions to which they responded right away. I asked for Clarence to come to the Adoption Event at Petco, Summerville, scheduled for that afternoon. Clarence was beautiful ... a yorkie-schnauzer mix (Snorkie). Joe and he started bonding right away. He was just who we needed ... and this 6 year old needed us, too. In no time, we were a family of 3, again, on our way home. LowCountry Animal Rescue is a small group of volunteers who foster in their homes. Their fosters come from shelters and owner surrenders. They are responsive and take care of the dogs, cats and any other furry kids that are in their care. Adoptions are on weekends at pre-publicized Adoption events around the greater Charleston area. An approved application must be on file. The animals come up-to-date on shots, Heartworm tested and neutered or spayed. Both Teddy and Clarence were crate trained and house trained. She brought us so many wonderful times till she sadly passed last week. We told them what type of second dog to keep Bonny comfortable we were looking for. They called us to recommend a fun little beagle named Fiona in 2020. Love at first site. The staff was very helpful and friendly. After 35 yrs of cats, they found us two great dogs. We`ll be returning now to have them help us find Fiona a much needed companion. It`s a tough and pretty thankless job they do. I commened and thenk them.
