While the view is amazing. When we checked in the hotel said our room is stuck at 75 degrees and nothing they can do. Never received a discount or anything to offset how warm the room actually was. The finish/remodel was rushed so fast that the little things really showed. Painters tape still visible. Fit and finish is off. Just really bummer. I was shocked to see the reviews on this place! I've visited the Saint Clair Inn twice and every time my experience gets better and better. If it's not the incredible service from staff it's the cleanliness of the facilities. This time I visited for my birthday weekend with my family we arrived to our hotel room we were experiencing some technical issues with our television our wonderful staff member Muka helped us remediate the issue within seconds. She escorted us to our new room which was immaculately clean in the residence. She explained everything based on the house layout the house was amazing with a beautiful view I highly suggest if you don't stay in one of the Waterview rooms I suggest one of the beautiful houses that adorn the property the view in the winter is gorgeous I can only imagine the summer I'm truly shocked by the reviews I have to say although we didn't try the restaurant and decided to explore around town this establishment is in a beautiful location not far from Port Huron the rooms are handicap accessible it's beautiful I have to say I highly recommend checking this out it's a great wedding venue as well there's parking on the street as well as in the parking lot and it has some great historical sites. Decided on a whim to book a room in St.Clair, MI as a getaway. We must have gotten the last room! The St Clair Inn is located right on the St Clair River. It was the 4th of July, so it was busy. The Inn staff was welcoming. They host a "watch" area for the fireworks, bring chairs or sit in the hotel's chairs. A few items: staff from the hotel should be available to help with chair set up Front desk staff should understand the workings of the fireworks show. They did not know the time it would start and were vague on how to "save" your spot for the show Cleaning staff needs to be trained to check all aspects of the room. A blouse was left in the closet of our room which leads one to question what else was overlooked. Still overall a pleasant stay, with an amazing fireworks show. read more

Rooms do not have climate control. I tried to check in on thanksgiving day and was immediately told the room temperatures cannot be adjusted. So I went to my room and of course it was freezing. I couldn't stay there. The hotel offered me a downgraded room without the downgraded price. That room would not work with my dog. I requested my money back and that was refused until the manager shows up another day. I asked to speak to the manager and I wasn't allowed. I'm sleeping in my car this thanksgiving. This hotel offered no space heater, no apology, no discount, no help to find another hotel... nothing. According to other reviews, this is a completely normal experience at St Clair Inn. read more

What a hidden gem! I've been wanting to stay here for quite a few years, but most of the time, my travels take me to further destinations. Located approximately 45 minutes from home, I typically will do a day trip to this area. This past Friday, I was lucky to finally book a stay at the Inn because we had a wedding to attend a few miles away. We didn't want to drive that far late at night, especially after indulging in libations. I booked a King Suite for us. The Inn has been undergoing extensive renovations and our room was beautifully decorated. Don't expect to have a large expansive suite, being an Inn, the rooms are very small, but quaint and romantic. They did a great job utilizing every inch of the room. I loved the high tall ceilings and wooden beams. The bathroom was adorned in marble tile and the shower AMAZING! There was a large screen tv mounted on the wall and plenty of space for your luggage. I truly appreciated the travel steamer instead of a typical ironing board. We even enjoyed a few cups of cappuccino in the morning from the unique coffee maker. We took our time exploring the Inn; it has such a history. The outside is picturesque; we just loved walking the grounds. The view of the river is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed sipping on a few cocktails watching the freighters go by. The Inn also has a beautiful pool area overlooking the water. Unfortunately, it was being worked on and wasn't open for guests. Trust me, I can't wait to come back and take a dip in the pool. There is a wooden boardwalk that leads you down to the river and sets the mood for an evening stroll along the water. As for food, the Inn has two main areas for dining. There is a main room, make reservations, and a spot called the The Dive Bar, which offers a huge bar and an area for casual dining. This was the area we enjoyed our liquid breakfast. lol They served fantastic mimosas and my friend indulged in the Blood Mary bar. Actually, I'm not a huge fan of the Bloody, but he made it perfect, not too spicy. He even offered me his pickle, as he knows I'm obsessed with them. lol The weather was absolutely perfect so we decided to sit on the large patio area overlooking the river. They offered a breakfast buffet until 2PM on Saturday, but we had another place to go for lunch, so we unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try the food. One of the coolests parts of the hotel, is the speakeasy, known as the Prohibition Room. Nothing says classy, like a dimly lit room with plush leather couches, sipping on a glass of Bourbon. The only thing that would have added to this experience....a cigar of course! If you are out in the area, or if you just need a little getaway, the St.Clair in is an experience. No Elevators - tall, steep steps only - no notification either - was told that we should "know" that based on type of room - don't bother w river view, have to stand to see out the window and then look past the roof - not sure who thinks it's a good idea to mop floor around breakfast table (scones, coffee only) but St Clair apparently does - empty rooms around but no place to sit in lobby to enjoy scones/coffee (2 men w laptops took up all the spaces w room for two). You WANT this place to be awesome and in some ways it is (sheets, remodels) but in others, it just falls short. Oh and the AC was blasting in an entire wing, nobody to fix that it was 60F in rooms and couldn't be warmed up. read more

I wish I could give this place more than five stars. We came here in the middle of the week to celebrate our eighth wedding anniversary. We got the room on the top floor that had the balcony so we could sit out there and watch freighters. Unfortunately it rained superhard so we sat in the room and looked out the window as some of the freighters went by. We did stop in the bar to have a quick drink and it was not very busy at all, which is to be expected mid week in late September. It was already dark out so we couldn't enjoy the wonderful view of the river but I'm sure it is an absolute gorgeous view during the day. The room was small but very attractive. It was great for an overnight trip but I don't think I would want to spend a whole week living out of a room that small. In the morning before checking out my husband and I explored more of the hotel. We could see a little bit the night before when the front desk clerk showed us around but we looked at more of the rooms in the daylight. I could easily see you spending a snowy day curled up in front of one of the fireplaces in the lounge and reading a book. Extremely disappointed with the St. Clair Inn! Although located in a beautiful historic location, this is a very poorly run hotel. We were excited about the oppportunity to stay at the St. Clair years ago as I remembered visiting the hotel with my father many years ago. Because of those memories, we were willing to pay more for a room in the area. We purchased in advance a room on the 3rd floor as it was to be larger and have the best view of the water. Upon arrival and check-in there were no bellman or bell carts, and no assistance offered to help with baggage. At $325+ per night, there should be a bellman. We later found a bell cart inside the door of another wing of the hotel and loaded our own baggage. The front desk clerk told us we would reach our room by going down the hall to the elevator. However, there was tape over the button for the 3rd floor so we returned to the lobby. The front desk clerk was now on the phone taking a reservation and never made eye contact. After waiting 20 minutes, without even a "I'll be with you, soon," we got the attention of a man hiding himself in an office behind the desk and asked how to get to the 3rd floor, only to learn the only way was up a long flight of stairs. Since the only way was using a staircase, we asked for assistance with our baggage, only to be rudely told no one was available to help us--but "maybe later," someone could help. We told him that if the hotel could not offer assistance with the baggage, we would need to moved to a floor with an elevator. The man very clearly gave us the impression that we were imposing on his time, but finally moved our room to the 1st floor. All this time--we are now close to 30 minutes, the desk clerk never look up and continued to talk on the phone. The room to where we were moved was extremely small--like a cracker box, not at all like the room we reserved (comparing to photographs on the website). The door was barely large enough for the bell cart. The room had a tiny window, with hardly a river view. The bathroom was so small you could barely move and we are not large people. There was a very nice shower head, but it was too powerful for the size of shower so the water sprayed all over the floor. The thermostat was hard to set to a comfortable temperature. There was a list of "codes" to use, rather than setting by degrees. In addition to choosing The St. Clair Inn because of fond past memories, the hotel website advertised several one-of-a-kind features, like the "Prohibition Room" and a restaurant deck facing the water, and a beautiful view for the King River View room. Both the Prohibition Room and the deck were closed to hotel guests as they had been reserved for a wedding party. Pool area was also closed during our stay--and the ice was only available by going to the front desk. It is extremely unfair when hotel guests are blocked from using advertised spaces so the hotel can make additional catering income from large events.. Additionally, if the only access a hotel has for a floor is stairs and not an elevator, "only access by stair's should be stated clearly in the room description on the website. The unavailable aforementioned items run close to false advertising. Again, very disappointed. Par for the course of the service offered, but there was no mention of compensation for being placed in a lesser quality room. We should have at least received an apology. Instead, we were made to feel by both the front desk clerk, again who never acknowledged us for nearly 30 minutes or the man who ended up moving our room, that we were an imposition. read more

Tried to make a reservation for NYE. I called the hotel directly and they don't make their own reservations. So, I called the 800 number and spoke with someone who didn't even know what NYE was or that the hotel that they make reservations for, had any kind of package or deal for NYE. So obviously I was supposed to pay full price which was already not the same as I was quoted by the hotel itself, THEN I would have to call the hotel back and get the discount applied to my reservation. This is absolutely absurd. So, I went on their website to book online. Still, nothing about a package deal etc and they charge 150 bucks in fees so my 249 dollar supposed deal is 400 bucks? No thanks! I don't have any idea whose wonderful idea it was to outsource making reservations to a foreign country for an American hotel for an American holiday but it is beyond stupid. We loved the architecture outside, and it was a lovely structure that clearly holds a lot of memories. We entered with excitement and headed to the dive bar for a drink and some food. In addition to two drinks of Carolan's coffee, we first ordered bruschetta. Although the drinks were excellent and exactly what I needed, the bruschetta was cold, had a hard texture, and the toppings only served to make it soggy. When the waitress and her manager asked about our experience and learned that we weren't happy, they said they were introducing new recipes that were based on the original prohibition restaurant. I wanted to enjoy it because the concept intrigued me. The Mediterranean pizza came in second on the order, so while the crust was good, the interior was not fully baked. Our waitress also mentioned that the recipe had changed. Even though I was discouraged at this point in the evening, I still wanted to give them another chance in the desert. I ordered banana creme brulee and devoured the entire brulee and was pleased with both the texture and flavor, so I wasn't let down. read more

Imagine your wedding night, 11/8/2025 you get to your hotel only to find that they have NO reservation for you. Their use of 3rd party booking is horrible!! Had confirmation email after booking, even called the Inn directly to confirm. Showed the front desk our call log proving that we in fact called the inn directly immediately after booking. NO reservation to be found!! The inn was booked until they found a room, after waiting for over an hour and a half. The room cost us 214.00 and was 60 degrees!! They did provide us extra blankets and we were able to get our king river view room the second night. No explanation, no discount.., nothing!!! If it wasn't for the amazing staff trying to accommodate us I would have given zero stars. Do not book here, save yourself the grief; and certainly save your special night for a place that actually cares and books properly. They certainly did not live up to their old reputation read more

We stayed there for three nights, for my Granddaughters graduation. There were two weddings, so couldn't use the prohibition room for two of the three nights. The swimming pool and hot tub was closed. The room was a real disappointment. The room was VERY small, the windows wouldn't open, the air conditioning didn't work for 2 of the 3 nights. No fan in the bathroom, and the closet rod for hanging clothes was too high for me to hang up my clothes....... My husband could barely reach it and he's 6 feet. When I let the front desk know, we laughed about the height, cuz they knew about it............. What???? Anyway, some compensation would have been appreciated, but none was offered. The Dive Bar is not at all a dive. It is at water-level with a panoramic view of the St. Clair River. Great atmosphere and food. I guess I would call it a "Chicago bar menu" with hand tossed pizzas, beef brisket tips and such. We have been for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They know how to cover all menus well! read more

There were 5 of us for dinner. Three people were satisfied with their meals and two of us were not. I had the chicken Alfredo and the chicken was over cooked and the sauce was pretty sparse so the whole meal was dry. Would have been nice if it was served with garlic toast but it wasn't. Another person had the shrimp scampi and rice and it was terribly salty. And salt is not an issue, so it wasn't like he was restricting his salt intake. I sure wouldn't be in a hurry to return here. We were very much looking forward to our over night get-way after the re-opening of the this historic landmark. The staff is extremely sweet and understanding but we feel that before booking your reservation make sure you understand this is an open floor concept as far as being able to hear all noice levels from the bar, to the laminated LOUD floors that are in the hallways of the hotel, they accept kids in the hotel and parents that feel they didn't need to control them. We were almost taken down by 6-8 kids on the stair landing because they were running up & down the hotel halls and sliding down the stairs. Even the front desk had to take action which was not the first that evening. We also were a bit confused as to why you would have two rooms that share a balcony facing the river and NO partition between the rooms and shear curtains with no blinds so anyone in those two rooms can see straight in. Just an uneasy feeling. . We did ask the front desk if we could be moved to a quieter area of the hotel and unfortunately the only room they had available was still directly across from the many families that were staying so we opted not to move because it wouldn't have solved the issue. The amazing staff at the St. Clair Inn was gracious enough to allow my extended family and I to host our annual Family Christmas Party during the soft opening at the Inn this Christmas. Needless to say, everything about the experience was wonderful! The staff took care of our every need, the food was fantastic, and the Inn itself is an absolutely must visit location in Michigan! Beyond that, every time my family has visited the Inn, we have had a fantastic experience. Where to begin. We toured the SCI in December 2021, and determined it was perfect for our rehearsal dinner. The manager at that time took us through a room called the 1926, and assured us it was open on our date. 3 months later we were informed the organization was going under a restructuring, but our contract was perfectly intact. About 1 week before our date, we were informed that the 1926 was no longer available and we would be moved into the sports bar. While this was not ideal, we did realize our deposit did not mention the name of the room. We had no power and basically agreed to move. Very disappointing. We like idea of a large room, long tables, and a great view. Instead, the dive bar was split into tables of 4 (likely because they wanted to open it up immediately after) It did not have the same vibe. Oh well, they open bar from 6pm-8pm and we got started. While the staff was very nice at pouring drinks, food finally came out around 7pm. We had booked 38 people, buffet style which consisted of two salads, chicken, meatballs, pasta, veggie, desserts. Mind you, only 36 people actually showed up. Plain and simple, we ran out of food. There was no one monitoring the buffet. We had to inform the bartenders, who were basically disconnected. After kicking and screaming, 45 minutes later, a second round of food showed up. By that time, people basically were out of dinner mode, done eating, and wanted to mingle. Food was basically wasted. We were told several things, like "the kitchen is not close to the bar" which is literally same building. I can make a salad in 7 minutes, why did it take 45. Extremely aggravating when you spend $3100 and less people actually showed up and still people are left hungry. I have heard horror stories from other people which is why we didn't have our wedding here. Pretty hard to mess up a buffet, but they did. Regardless, their managers did come over. We were told that that we'd be getting a call from the directors to fix this multiple times throughout the conversation. Well 10 months later, no phone call from anyone. Took the money and ran! We stayed there this weekend for a wedding. The building is absolutely GORGEOUS. The rooms were small, but very cute and clean and the beds were sooooooo comfortable. We spoke to Roy who was quite passionate about the history of the inn and we're excited to come back and explore more during the summer. The reason that I gave 3 stars is because David at the front desk needs a complete attitude overhaul. I've spoken to other members of our party and they agreed. Any time I came to the front desk, he seemed condescending and irritated that we were there. This was a stark contrast to every other person we encountered. I'm not quite sure what his problem was, but we encountered him 2 days in a row and his demeanor was the same. Jimmy the bartender was a great conversation and made a nice old fashioned and martini (try garnishing rye with a lemon twist :). We ordered the Mr. Crunch sandwich and Salty and Sweet pizza, both were outstanding. Our Short Rib Arancini appetizer had an excellent crunch but could be more bold. I had high hopes after waiting through covid to get back to the st Clair inn. My husband surprised me for our 14th anniversary. And yes we were Surprised! Small room no lighting except overhead light (with different colored light bulbs). Shade on tiny window that fell on my head because it was just set in the tiny window top. Bad bed. No decoration or wall pictures. No restaurants after 6 pm. No room service. No pool or spa. We left 1/2 hour later deciding to forget about complaining and get more upset. Don't trust any website pictures. They don't show actual rooms. I cried all the way home feeling sad for what was once my favorite place in Michigan since m 1 st time there at age 12. I would have been happier to see the original gem demolished then treated this way. read more

We recenly spent a weekend at the hotel. The renovation is very nice and the rooms are nicely decorated. We were very disappointed to find no available restaurants on Saturday. The main dining room, porches and the only restaurant the Dive were all closed for private parties. They only have one casual restaurant when it isn't being privately used, and its very casual, it does have a beautiful view. There is no upscale restaurant. To our disappointment the pool was also closed -still had the winter cover on. "maintainace issue" we were told. $500 for 2 nights with no restaurants and no pool it was disappointing. read more

The room was really nice and clean. At the time we stayed they only had the bar open for limited hours. I was also confused about the valet service that popped up one day. I wanted to park myself like i normally do and it was hotel policy that I had to hand over my keys. Very disappointing. High priced and over rated. It was for our 40th Anniversary. Tried several times to reach out to management on several avenues with no reply. St Clair is a beautiful community but would not recommend staying here. Stayed there numerous times before the renovation and we were excited to see what they had done. Food was poor, thankfully the Voyager is nearby where we ate the rest of our meals. Room temp couldn't be fixed and they had to bring us a fan, what was supposed to be a beautiful view was looking at a rooftop with a peak a boo water view. Front desk staff was rude, and manager on duty was useless. Really couldn't believe we never got a response. Left for the Bavarian inn , last minute to try and salvage our special weekend and had wonderful experience totally different! Found out it was our anniversary and sent a basket to our room. Went to stay for a relaxing weekend. What I found is that half of the hotel is still under construction. After check in the desk staff told me that there was no elevator as well. I ended up having to drag several heavy bags up a flight of stairs. The room was clean. However, for what I paid I would expect certain basic items in the room such as: lamps, a mini fridge, microwave, an overhead light, and some toiletries. There is also no room service available. We ended up leaving and staying somewhere else. The staff was friendly. This place is just not finished and is totally overpriced given the fact that the room is bare. read more

Went to the St Clair Inn for a wedding. A very nice venue. The food was really good. And service was good as well. A beautiful place with awesome view of the St Clair River. The only downfall was our hotel room. It was very pricey. The room was very small, but decorated nicely. A king size bed and comfortable. A large tv mounted on wall. The inn had no vending machines and if you wanted ice, the front desk had to get it for you. Some attendees were upset because their room was not ready at check in time. Also, no elevator so had to use stairs to get to second floor. Beautiful venue for a wedding though. read more

1 Star is the lowest rating available, if it were possible to give zero stars I would. My Fiance and I locked in a block of rooms at the St. Clair Inn in February 2021 for our wedding on August 28, 2021. Knowing the hotel was under renovations I consistently checked in and was told that we would be notified well in advance if anything delayed their opening but more on that in a moment. I received word from my guests that they could not access the reservations online (as we were instructed to do) and when I reached out to the St. Clair Inn I was told that their online reservations were not working and that they would have to make reservations by emailing the manager personally (who has ever heard of making reservations this way)? I instructed my guests to do so but also to consider making reservations at the other hotel I had a block of rooms at as I did not trust the St. Clair Inn any longer. Fast Forward a couple of months and I check in with the St. Clair Inn and am told that they are good to go for being open for our wedding however no rooms have been reserved under the block as of yet. I knew for a fact this was false as 4 of my family members had made reservations and my step mother even had a screen shot of her confirmation which she sent to me. St. Clair Inn, when provided with this info miraculously found my father and step mothers reservation but said that the other reservations had been lost and they would need to re-book. I informed my family of the situation and once again urged them to consider other lodging options as my trust by now was completely gone with this establishment. They all re-booked at St. Clair Inn and had their reservations confirmed. On the weekend of August 7th I drove by the St. Clair Inn and saw that they were indeed open for business as there was a wedding party walking out of the hotel. My fears abated and I breathed a sigh of relief that everything was good. That was until today, August 11, 2021 (less than 3 weeks before our wedding), when Joanna called me to tell me that while they were open, they still had a wing of the hotel which would not be completed in time and were therefore short on rooms and canceling our wedding block and the 5 reservations that were made and confirmed with it 2 and a half weeks before our Wedding!! She said that they had 2 other on site weddings that weekend and since our block was for lodging only and we were getting married off site that ours would be canceled. She emailed myself and the other guests who had reservations offering "her suggestions" on other hotels to book, both of which were in Port Huron and too far away from our venue. In addition she stated that those hotels would not give discounts unless 10 rooms were booked. As it currently stands my guests are now scrambling to find other accommodations two weeks away on a summer weekend filled with weddings. I'm sure many people have stayed here and enjoyed it, however my experience with them from start to finish was a non stop disaster and I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone nor will I ever stay here as I would rather sleep outside on a park bench than give this hotel any of my business. read more

Love the Dive Bar! They even have Diet Tonic!!! Great staff! Beautiful facility. Highly recommend!

No early check in (30 minutes early), pool closed, restaurant and bar not open, all for the low priced of $329 per night...NEVER staying here again. Totally disappointed after hearing it was a great place to stay. read more
