I attended Macy when it was called Grandview. Mr. Macy was our principal. He was a good man, very…read morededicated and well respected. I use to help him with the outside platform for our Friday assemblies. I remember he even took a group of us to a basketball game and he paid for everything. Back then they gave the boys swats for misbehaving. He had a huge wooden paddle hanging on the wall behind his desk. It was almost like a trophy. When he died it was a sad time for the school. They even had a small plaque placed at southeast end of the park. It was a vey nice ceremony with students and city officials. That's when they officially changed the school's name to Jack Macy Elementary. They later shortened the name for some reason to Macy Elementary. I recently took my family to the school, so they could see where I attended school. To my surprise the old gate kickball backstop was still there in the field. What really supposed me was the fact that the plaque honoring the Mr Macy had been destroyed and grass was covering where it was. It was obvious the school had not taken any action to replace it, as if the principal was lost in time. I hope the current principal sees this post and looks into it and replaces it. The history of the school should stay alive and not lost with time.

Our…read morelove for the school was truly put to the test when the Altadena campus (and also our home) burned down in the Eaton fire earlier this year. We had a choice to make whether we wanted to continue on, meaning a much longer commute and many more hours each day away from our little ones so they could attend the other campus in Monterey park. We made the right decision to stay with Meher. The school went above an beyond to wrap around its impacted families during this crisis. When we were displaced we were even invited into a zoom class room so the kids could stay connected to their classmates. They did not fall behind, and had a loving environment to return to when we came home. We trust their approach to normal misbehavior and conflict between kids, and the kids trust that when they are there their needs are met. The structure is comforting for them and the lessons engaging. We love that the school has a loving and professional approach to child development. We feel there is a real investment in our kids learning how to do things on their own, which we have noticed contributes to their confidence and eagerness to discover and learn. The teaching staff is well versed and continuously learning how to be great teachers. It is not "childcare" it is truly school in a way that sets the kids up for confidence and success. We feel lucky to be part of this community and after looking at other options, are clear this is the right place for our little ones.

The school has made several physical improvements. Baseball has put in some lighting, fixed their snack bar etc. The athletic room with weights is brand new and looks great! The overall school looks improved too. Regarding teaching and staff- The front desk Elva is the most welcoming abc kindest of people. The faculty cares and I gave my kids the opportunity to transfer back to a local school but they said teachers really care and they teach you. Sounds weird right? You think all teachers at school teaches but that's not the case. Some teachers at some schools are biding their time. My kids opted to stay at CSHM because of the teachers. FYI because of one of our sons playing baseball we have to drive back and forth 3 x a day. That's almost 3 hours. We do it because our sons are excelling here. They take honors, ap and dual college enrollment classes. One of my sons ranked 8th in his class the other 13th. The school recognizes and encourages better academics through recognition. Besides all the typical every school does them recognition they do the following: Special recognition during school where students are recognized in front of their peers. There are different levels like magma cum laude, signs cum laude etc. The kids who rank top 10 in their class get a special free dinner at a restaurant where they are recognized again and families can pay to enjoy a meal too. Lastly for seniors there is a senior spotlight dinner at the end of year. They are selected based on a lot of criteria. Grades, service to community, overall good kid, etc. It's a beautiful dinner in which alumni, admin, spotlighted seniors and their families get to be recognized for the wonderful kids they are. This is a special night. We heart this school. Is it the fanciest of schools? No. They truly believe a good education can be achieved without taking out a second loan on your home. Dr Eric Crespo has made so many great changes to this school. He should be proud! Keep going Dr Crespo I can't wait to see what then next few years bring.
