This is not your ordinary New York bodega, this is the shop of General Ock, who sells various sandwiches in his renowned Ocky Way. So what is the Ocky Way? The Ocky Way is not just a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and onions, it is also about presentation and style. The sandwich is made loudly with a flair for the dramatic, from the time your food hits the flat top to when it is center cut and put in a clamshell container. What about the food? It really is pretty good! I got the Chopped Cheese the Ocky Way and it was something I really enjoyed. I recommend you get it with the Jamaican Patty as that is what makes the flavors work best. This is the food I grew up eating, so I take it seriously when I try this kind of food; it checks all the boxes. No, it is not cheap, but you get a nice amount of food to justify the cost. To start, a plate of pickles and cup of coleslaw is an excellent way to start. That is the Jewish equivalent to getting free bread at an Italian restaurant, or a basket of chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. It is a must if you want to satiate your customers. The matzo ball soup is adequate for what comes in it. One matzo ball, but some carrots and noodles help make it more. The chicken broth is hearty and full of flavor. This is the perfect soup for when the weather gets colder. I finished with a Triple Decker of pastrami, corned beef, and tongue. All the meats tasted fresh and delicious, not too overstuffed, and the topping of coleslaw and Russian dressing created a nice cooling balance from the salty meat. The real kicker? Seedless rye! Thank goodness for the seedless rye! That is how you treat customers who have issues digesting seeds. Sorry Bobby Hill, you will not find pictures of celebrities on the walls of this deli.
