I was very quickly and efficiently seated by an athletic looking waitress in trainers who quickly ascertained my order before jogging off to have it made. She came back in record time with my long black and a bottle of water randed with the company's name and logo. I was pretty sure I heard her say it was 'complimentary' but was reticent at first to crack the lid, not knowing what sort of charge I might incur. The coffee was quite good -- complex and flavoursome without bitterness -- but it was making me a little thirsty for some palate-cleansing H20, so I opened the bottle. On paying I cleared the matter up. Turns out the water is free, but the coffee was $4, which kind of makes the deal seem a little less good value to me.

It was late afternoon around 3.00pm and a lot of the other restaurants and cafes in the area had closed up after lunch hours. Seated at our table the bubbly waitress presented us each with a complimentary Heineken (yippee). Feeling quite relaxed (but extremely hungry) we perused the pretty little leather menus and made our selections. I ordered 'The Dark Side' which was the only vegetarian option on the menu, a lightly floured bread roll topped with avocado, greens and grilled portobello mushrooms with a side salad ($18). My husband ordered the salt and pepper calamari ($22). It didn't take long for our meals to arrive and we eagerly tucked in. Good food, not amazing, but nice. Probably a little overpriced, but I guess that is how they afford to treat their customers with free beers - so I'm not complaining.

Granted, it's mostly been for a sneaky take-away coffee but recently we stopped for 'elvensies' and the hummingbird cake was all you could want for a morning tea. This is a family-friendly cafe so if you have kids they're more than catered for - 100s and 1000s on the kids cups and a drawing area for their imaginations to run amok. Should kids not be your thing, be prepared for the little rugrats to be, well, be kids - making noise, running around and burning energy. If you can deal with that then you're in for a treat in a cafe that was once a dark and dreary looking antique store.

We arrived to find that it wasn't. A decision was made to walk to Rosalie, but we didn't even make it more than a block before seeing the welcoming sign 'open 7 days'. It's al small cafe, but with only a few tables it feels bright roomy. It is also air conditioned, which is a bonus as we head into the nasty summer months. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Menus were already on the tables and they were trialling table service, which was executed promptly. Coffee was made well and the breakfast was filling, reasonably prices and well presented. I had the vegetarian breakfast of haloumi, tomato and spinach with toast. My partner had the mushrooms and we both had no complaints. A few flies buzzing around was the only frustration, but something that it difficult to avoid at this time of year. I look forward to going back and trying other options.

For locals and commuters you're in for a treat with fresh Genovese coffee being poured and an interesting and unsurprisingly quirky menu on offer. I had stopped in for breakfast and was greeted with choices including a Breakfast Salad (haloumi, leaves, dukkah egg, asparagus) and more standard options like avocado on toast. In the end I set my sights on the Breakfast Banana Split - fresh banana, berries (raspberries and strawberries), toasted museli, grated dark chocolate, toasted coconut and, frozen whipped banana). Served in a sundae glass it felt a lot more "naughty" and calorie-laden than it actually was and the frozen whipped banana (a great recipe with ridiculous ease) gives this a creamy sensation without the regret later in the day! Verdict: The coffee is consistent and for commuters stoping enroute to the train, this is key. The menu is cute and quirky and from my experience today backs it up with the goods. Four weeks in since opening, locals have clearly adopted this new kid on the block as their own and there's already customer / barista first-name-basis relationships in action. But, to be honest, it didn't blow me away. It's a great staple for locals but not for a trip to visit here alone.

When I visited they were one of the finalists in the running for Brisbane's best coffee, best barrister and best breakfast so they obviously have been turning a lot of heads. This place seems to be a hit with the little guests too. They have a small table offering loads of pens and colouring in books to entertain the children and there were quite a few families with small children there and is obviously one of those children friendly cafés Mum's and Dad's seek out, without fearing dirty looks from those around them. The coffee really was very smooth..........I am a skinny flat white drinker and it really hit the spot and was just delicious. I was so hungry after the gym I thought I was going to cry as my tummy told me it was going to start to digest itself if I did not eat immediately. I therefore went for "The Revival Beast" offering free range bacon, cassoulet, mushroom, organic poached eggs, triple cooked chips & toasted organic sourdough. Oh yes................my tummy thanked me for this choice. Tasty and was really pleased to be presented with a very generous portion size. So the verdict.......great filling tasty breakfast venue, serving the smoothest coffee I have tasted, that is seriously worth a little trip out to Red Hill to try. Mum's and Dad's feel free to bring the kids here, you will get some seriously good food and once the kids get bored of the usual distractions you give them, there is a table full of new distractions to keep them content whilst you finish you morning revival.

I ventured up Enoggera Terrace on a Monday (yes! These guys are now opening the cafe on a Monday) after hearing they have WiFi. What better way to kick start the working week than with a coffee in their courtyard area. The avo on toast was, frankly, just the delicious icing on the cake. There's about 8 different avocado on toast combos on their menu, I went with Number 3: smoked salmon, feta and avocado. Plum Tucker is casual and cool like the impossibly twee friend we all have. They're on trend but they're aloof about it - they don't need to sing it from the roof top for it to be true. It's a cafe I know I'll come back to again and enjoy feeling like I'm away from the bustle of the outside world while squirreled away in this former cottage.

We also sampled the biscuit with cream and jam which was dense but fluffy, warm and delicious. My husband loved his smashed avo on toast. The coffees are mild and well-crafted. Would definitely recommend for a relaxed breakfast or lunch.

The atmosphere there is like what you'd expect from a small town cafe--there's a strong sense of community and the happiness of his staff lays testament to the kind of establishment Steve runs. I also love that they have iced tea similar to what you'd find in the Southern United States. It was a little too sweet for my personal preference, but it's still a nice option to have. My main issue has been the service. Every time I've visited, the service has felt quite slow and also a bit rushed once someone does come around. That said, the convenience, all-day breakfast, and variety of lunch options make it a place I'll probably continue to visit when I need an early morning or late night option.
