A solid Korean BBQ place. Price point is a bit high averaging 15-20 euros per plate, but I thought for the portion you pay for, it was okay. It's communal seating which is nice but sometimes when you're with a group of people (3+) the table space is very limited. Service was super friendly but sometimes took a bit of time. To be brutally honest, the only taste of the served foods is: salty, and nothing else. I ordered ggalbi: salty Seafood, especially the shrimp: salty afp Never before I went to Korean restaurant and felt so overwhelmed with this one dimensional taste. I wanted to run away asap. I came here with my colleague for lunch the other day. It wasn't so many people when we first got here, so we could just pick any seats like. The size of the restaurant is quite alright, don't really feel crowded, even the place was full. I like korean food, especially Bibimbap, so sure I ordered that just to try it. when I saw the menu, there was two options for this, it didn't seem to have much different, but just one Euro. so we decided to order both to see the different. so the cheaper Bibimbap here turned out to be cold dish. that was quite a surprice for me, since I never really tasted a Cold Bibimbap until then. and the Bibimbap I used to have somehow here need to cost an extra 1 Euro for that. it was kind strange to me. The taste was alright. The other thing I noticed that they just offered us around 6 very small dishes as starter but for 5 people. That was also quite stange to me. usually the restaurant I've been. they will offer that depend on the number of the people. each person at least will got 3 diches as starter. This was my first but likely not my last Korean BBQ spot to try in Berlin. I thought it was a fantastic corner restaurant with some really delicious items on the list and the classic self grill option characteristic of Korean BBQ places. Overall (8/10): clean, modern, classically Asian decor with outdoor seating for the warm months of Germany. Ample seating, friendly, English speaking staff. All in all a very chill, casual, dinner spot. Drink (n/a): I had a Coke. Hard to go wrong with that. Didn't really have ice but was cold enough. (FYI they want you to buy drinks so tap water is kind of a pain to order but they'll do it, legally speaking.) Food (8/10): breakdown below Appetizers (7/10): not the best assorted app plates I've had at a Korean BBQ but still very good. The kimchi really was outstanding. The potatoes and carrots were ok, the cucumber salad, not bad. Entree (9/10): I had the Dolsot Bibimbap with bulgogi. Beautiful presentation in a stone bowl, purple cabbage, rice, veggies, egg. Supremely filling, delicious with every bite. So full after, couldn't really have dessert. My bro ordered the pancake dish with scallions (forgot the name, edit to come) which was also awesome but not as filling. An absolute no go is the fact that you MUST order at least two barbecue dishes! Even though you are alone. Ridiculous. One dish is minimum 16€ or so. It's simply raw meat with some vegetables. So you do basically all the cooking. The prices are way too high for average food quality and average service. When we ordered 9 dumplings we got 8. The waitress then took it back, the chef cooked the other dumpling for about 10mins. Result was 8 cold and 1 warm one. Yay! And last but not least they OF COURSE don't accept credit cards. Cash only is a pretty common way to be under the radar of the tax office. read more

But we liked it. They just opened, when we visited the Ssam, so it was obvious that the staff was a little bit insecure. As a Korean living in Berlin, I was excited to find Ssam for comforting Korean meals. I eat here almost once a week, sometimes twice (I work nearby). I'm a pretty tough critic, but I usually enjoy my experience at Ssam. Starting from the best, So Galbi and Daeji Galbi are very good, really well marinated meats. I love their thick-cut Samgyeopsal (pork belly). Not many Korean restaurants in Berlin have this cut. The pork ribs are really good, but dolsot bibimbap was for me just okay (I have a high standard, my friends love it). Service can be chaotic sometimes, but it's gotten better these days. Despite my criticisms, I will definitely keep going back to Ssam, I'm still just happy I can find good korean food nearby! read more

He was annoyed when I asked if there was anything glutenfree and said No but shall I come back when you're ready and then ran outside to ask me about the bill because I didn't leave him a tip. The BBQ is awesome! The soy-sauce beef was just great, the squid was a bit stale but the prawns and the tuna made up for it. The Kimchi was one of the best I ever had. Its not rocket science to know that if you put frozen meat on a BBQ that the meat with be chewy...Would it be so difficult to thaw the meat prior to bringing it to the table? They lasted too much to take note of the food even if the waiters were inside the kitchen doing nothing (you can easily see the kitchen from outside). They started serving the starters before the drinks. They did not put the cutlery until we asked for them. We missed some of the sides for everyone (soy sauce, rice, etc). Moreover, they did not serve the quantity we asked for. They did not understand what we asked even if we tried in German and English. They did not clean the table after having finished the starters and it was very uncomfortable since the little table was full of empty dishes. The idea is very original. Terribly understaffed and slow (been here 3 times now and its the same situation every time and that in the daytime when only 30% of restaurant are occupied) -It took the waitress 15 mins to deliver the drinks for example and 30 mis for our food to arrive. The food is not authentic enough and lacking of depth and favours -found a blue piece of plastic probably from a rubbish sack in the bibimbap on top of it! Stay away or try other places. The food has been altered for a German or Western palate - blander and watered down. This I found terribly disappointing, but I also recognize my Korean food expectations are way too high, as someone who lived in Los Angeles for a long time and is used to Korean food perfection in Korea-town. We had the samgupsal. The portions were not very generous; too thinly sliced and was served with soy sauce, not sesame oil! That was certainly weird. My only thought was it's probably much cheaper this way, and definitely noted as a weak point. We also ordered spicy ojingah and it wasn't spicy at all!
