It's a vibey, busy little spot that serves up Korean comfort food with a modern, casual twist. Don't expect 100% traditional recipes here, but do expect tasty, filling dishes that hit the spot. I ordered the bibimbap with beef, and it came sizzling hot in a stone bowl (yes, that crispy bottom rice is everything). Topped with kimchi, egg, veggies. I also tried a friend's cha chang myun, and honestly, that might've been my favorite. Rich, savory, inky sauce with pork and potato, total noodle comfort food. If you're looking for deeply authentic Korean dishes, this might not check every box (some of the kimchi/gimbap purists might not vibe with it). Their cocktails are what stood out to us to most. If you are looking for Korean food in Berlin, look no more! I ordered the Bipimbop with beef and it did not disappoint. Served in a stone bowl, it came to the table sizzling and the rice was crisp at the bottom! It was also topped with a fried egg, bean sprouts, cucumber and kimchee. The server is nice and was helpful at recommending dishes, but since it was so busy that night, she mistakenly charged me for a dish that wasn't mine. I came here alone while visiting Berlin for work. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is a mix of two- and four- person tables, and long tables for mixed groups where they will squeeze you in if are solo. The place was steadily busy in a nice way, and obviously is popular with locals. There is an interesting cocktail list, many drinks with a twist on the classics. The food was quite good - my pork rice bowl was tasty with the right amount of heat and, based on my limited experience with Korean food, seemed pretty authentic. Highly recommended! read more

I'm that asian that always has to have azn food whenever I travel. I'm so happy that Berlin has a good amount of ethic food to choose from. My friend was craving Korean food and we found this place on yelp. The place was extremely crowded when we went, so all the tables were filled. They had a back area where you have to take off your shoes and sit on mats. We were so hungry that we didn't care where we sat. We shared two dishes and ordered a bottle of soju. The first dish was the bulgogi dobbab. The portions were pretty decent and the meat was very flavorful. The japchae was especially good. I wanted something spicy so I got the spicy beef soup. My friend didn't like it, but I thought it was comparable to ones in the states. One thing that was weird is that they charge for kim chi and other banchans. If you order a meal, it comes with it though. Overall, I was pretty surprised at Yam Yam. I really enjoyed my meal and it satisfied my Korean food craving in Berlin lol. read more

Jajangmyeon? Jjajang myun? Zha jiang mian? Here at YamYam it's cha chang myun, but alternate spellings aside all you really need to know is that their take on this classic black bean sauce noodle dish is super scrumptious. Seriously, the stuff is faultless and would stand up to any authenticity test; its savoury, inky sauce studded with pork, onions and potato. And it comes with a side of kimchi! I could not ask for more. Except maybe for YamYam to accept credit cards. My dining companion and I might have liked to sample more from the menu but only had €15 between us. As a result we had to forgo our thirst beyond tap water (though a beer would have been nice with the noodles) and our hunger beyond my cha chang myun and her rice bowl (no mandu for us!) I suppose the good news here is that you can have a totally filling meal for €15. Just make sure you bring the cash to pay for it! read more

I have tried korean food before and Yamyam can't be considered as a classic and authentic korean restaurant. I couldn't be able to taste the real gimbap or the real kimchi jjigae (). This is the only place in Germany I've found that has the Jjam pong noodle soup (spicy seafood soup with noodles) it hits the spot and is absolutely the perfect amount of spice to clear up noses on a cold day. Their food is delicious and I like the no frills vibe-- I noticed that their food is great as take out and sit in. I also love it when a place makes good dumplings that are not fried but steamed. Food: Mediocre. The bulgogi deopbap did not taste authentic, but the portion size was a lot bigger than I expected - had to get the rest for takeaway. Service: Subpar. The servers were lagging it and it took me forever just to get seated. She ended up telling me that I can just find any open seat and take it... It also took forever to place my order or clean up the mess that was left from the previous party. They just weren't very attentive and never replaced the napkins or anything! I don't know why this place is so popular, but I probably would not come back since there are better Korean spots in the area, and it was really strange that none of the servers or chefs were Korean. read more

My husband and I were looking for a quick light lunch spot in Mitte and came across YamYam. We had a look at the menu and saw that they had kimbap which are traditional Korean rice rolls with vegetables and thought "that's perfect for a light lunch" and off we went. Food: YamYam had a lot of great traditional Korean dishes on the menu which was great to see. Looking around the restaurant the dolsot bibimbap was very popular, the ramen looked good as well as the rice dishes. We both ordered the beef kimbap roll, one order of tofu and veggie dumplings, and a side order of the cucumber kimchi. FYI - the kimbap comes with a side of kimchi. Everything was authentic and delicious. For drinks we ordered a bottle of water and their Korean barely tea. Cost: 22.00€ Ambiance: Very casual. Service: Friendly and quick. We got our food within 10 minutes of ordering. Would I go back? Definitely! And I would recommend this spot to anyone who's looking for good Korea in Berlin. Note: YamYam is cash only. read more

Having travelled extensively in Korea for five years I grew to love Korean food. In my opinion it's the best hangover food that is also healthy ;-)) I had the craving for Korean food for the aforementioned reasons so I went looking ;-)) The place is located on a wonderful street with loads of fashion boutiques, jewellery, book shops, knick knacks and hair salons. It also happens to have a load of nice interesting cafes serving different types of Asian food and so on. It was my first time in this part of Berlin and, I loved it. There are loads of locals and tourists alike at the cafes looking cool, sipping drinks and eating. This place has a really nice menu with loads of side dishes like kimchi, pickled cucumber, spinach salad and so on. For me a Korean meal without sides is not a meal ;-)) I ordered the Beef Mandu pan fried dumplings to start and a Bibimbap for main. The sides were excellent as was the bibimbap. It was quite authentic taste, fabulous flavour and spicy. The Mandu however, was nice but not what I would have expected. Similarly the soup side was a bit too oily and lacked flavour. The service was a tad slow to start but then again, I was there before normal dinner time and staff were only getting ready for dinner as was the kitchen. As time went on it got a whole lot quicker. My craving for Korean food was perfectly satisfied and I would happily come here anyday for a meal. It was not very expensive and food was excellent. Must try the kimchi pizza next time, it looked delicious ;-)) read more

The food doesn't carry that heavy fermented flavor that a lot of Korean foods have, which is great in my book. It might turn some diehard Korean eaters away on the other hand though. This a favourite of mine, and being in the same street as A.P.C. and Sessun it makes for a tasty lunch on days needing some retail therapy. Coming from Oslo I'm not used to eating a lot of Korean food (we have Japanese or Chinese), but I am such a big fan of mandu (dumplings) and the nokdu choen (mungbean pancackes) that I believe I could eat here several times a week and not get tiered of it. It doesn't hurt that the dishes are very reasonably priced, and comes with a side of kimchi. Make sure to try the ice tea, it's worth the extra couple of euros. read more

I was there with a friend, we ordered Kimchi Jiggae, Doeji Bokkeumbap, a Kimbap-roll, Gogi mandu and some drinks. The service was quite friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with the Doeji Bokkeumbap, it was slightly spicy, but not too much, overall very delicious. My friend, who ordered the Kimchi Jiggae, was not really pleased though, it was too spicy, even for a Kimchi Jiggae. And we both had korean food before, so we do know that it's quite spicy in general. Just this time, it was a bit too much in our opinion. The Kimbap and Mandu were good, nothing special in my opinion, but nonetheless tasty. The ambiente in there was okay as well - since the restaurant was quite full, we had to sit in the back - which wasn't as nicely decorated, but acceptable still. The prices here are very tolerable, all the dishes aren't too expensive and fill you up very well :) All in all, I'm giving it 3/5, because while it was a pleasant experience and the food wasn't bad at all, this restaurant didn't blow me away and wasn't anything special. read more

I'm Korean, have lived in Korea half my life and eat Korean food constantly. I had high expectations for YamYam - a Korean girl can only subsist on Italian/Turkish/German food for so long before breaking down and dragging herself to the nearest Korean restaurant. Like a few things in Berlin, I found YamYam to be all style, no substance. Bibimbap was the blandest I've ever had, Kimchi was obviously not fresh/store-bought, Bulgogi was extremely dry. Frankly, I think Gochujang (hot pepper paste) saved the meal. I also do not really understand why prices have to be this high. Korean dishes like Bibimbap in Korea can be bought for 5-6 euros, and the ingredients are all vegetables that can be found in Europe as in Korea, so...... YamYam's great if you're into the Mitte dining scene and people watching. If you're serious about Korean food, look elsewhere. read more

We came for lunch with the sis and the restaurant wasnt full yet, people were just starting to come. We ordered and then waited for almost an HOUR and no food came. We were not informed that it will take sooo long and terrible thing that all new people around got their dishes and were finishing eating. I used to live in Seoul, so my expectations for Korean food are higher than the average bear. Yam Yam gets a picnic basket. We didn't have a reservation at this cafeteria-style eatery, and it was heaving around 8pm on a Saturday. We patiently waited (for about 15 minutes) and the house gave us some free tea for our wait. The hostess said she could accomodate us for literally 30 minutes, as the next free table was reserved at 9. We ordered while we waited, and eventually the same hostess said if we moved tables just ones seat over, we could stay longer. At that point we had already finished so it was fine. This restaurant needs a bigger space! They were turning people away left and right. But what it lacks in tables and decor, it makes up for in speedy service, oh yea, and awesome food. I mistakenly over-ordered, with a bibimbap, jiggae, mondu and a bulgogi dish for 2 hungry people. We scarfed our food because of the time restraint on our table, but the portions are HUGE and we could have dealt with just 1 side and 1 main course combined. Definitely not a typical Korean BBQ place, or restaurant, but a fun German, cafeteria style take on Korean comfort foods. While I was there, I really wanted a Cass, but their beverage options were pretty limited. Would go again, with a reservation! read more

Yam Yam should have the misnomer Nam Nam, Miam Miam, or YUM YUM, because that is exactly what it is. Kitty licking good. I ordered the "Bibimbap" as usual and although I got it spicy, I still had to place a few spoonfuls of the hot sauce into my sizzling bowl of sexy food. Also, there is something about eating with silver chopsticks that makes me smile. My favorite place to sit is by the window, where they have rugs on a platform. This is the first place I ate at when I arrived in Berlin. The place was super cute and clean. I think I ordered 8a. It was good, but I didn't realize how much rice was in the bowl. I am not a big fan of rice. Anyways, I thought the food was really fresh and tasty. There was a lot of food even in that small bowl. I'm always a bit hesitant/wary of eating Korean food in countries other than Korea and parts of the US. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the food at Yamyam. I've been there twice and so far I've tried their Doeji Bokum and their Bibimbap with meat. I was craving spicy food both times and I was definitely satisfied :D. The Doeji Bokum is flavorful and spicy. The only thing I was disappointed with were the side dishes that came with it. The kimchi was okay but the spinach was soggy and the cabbage slaw/salad was kind of flavorless. The Bibimbap is pretty good. I wasn't sure if they would serve it in the hot bowl but I was glad that they did (the best part is always at the bottom when the mixed rice gets crunchy). The meat that they added was kind of tough and chewy but other than that the dish was good. The restaurant is kind of small and it can be hard to find a seat when it's busy, but the food comes out really quickly. read more

Yam Yam should rename themselves to Yummmm Yummmm! The quality of the food is great, very fresh ingredients! The menu is extensive so there is always something new to try. There is not a very large beer selection, only a few bottled brands. You have to order at the counter, but the service is very quick, and wait for food is not long. The decor is stylish and minimalistic, and the neighborhood is very nice. The outdoor seating is a bit cramped and can get competitive but if you do manage to score a spot it is very nice to sit, eat and people watch! It is great place to grab a quick but sophisticated dish before an evening out in Mitte! A reservation for weekends is not necessary but would probably be helpful. read more

I didn't expect much from this place but I loved it. I already noted it down to my classics list. Its middle-sized, bright and lovely place to sit, eat great food, have a drink and talk with friends. Food was amazing. I ordered Bibimbap (8.90 Euros) which is pretty cheap for portion. However, its sauce is hot so be careful. I especially have to mention Beef Bulgogi those guys cooking there. I remember when I lived in Berlin few years ago, there were only a handful of Korean restaurants, most of which resembled spicier version of Chinese food. I was excited to see that quite a few had opened up since then, and I couldn't wait to try them during our visit. We picked Yam Yam for the reason that it was close to where we were staying. The menu is simple and consists of all the usual favorites: gimbop, bi bim bop, ohjinguh bokum. The flavor isn't as authentic as one might expect, esp if you're used to eating Korean food, and the quality of the veggies are subpar, as they are pickled versus being freshly steamed and marinated. However, the restaurant is absolutely adorable, and it's located in one of the loveliest neighborhood/areas in Berlin. It may disappoint those seeking Korean food that umma used to make, but I absolutely enjoyed the experience as a whole ... I mean, where else in Korea or in the US can you have bi bim bop sitting outdoors at a sweet little restaurant on a beautiful summer day? I can always have authentic Korean meals when I'm in Seoul or San Francisco, and I very much enjoyed my dining experience at Yam Yam. read more
