Excellent pint of Otter Ale (don't bother with the Otter bitter, which although good is nothing compared to the Ale). One of the very best home made pies I have had anywhere- chicken, mushroom and bacon in delicious shortcrust pastry. I understand that the liver and bacon was not so good unfortunately. Huge portions of obviously home battered haddock were also very good. The starters are perhaps a little unimaginative, but I really enjoyed the home made pate with some really interesting chutney. Good house wine - a nice Argentinian Shiraz Malbec and Pinot Grigiot. The views from the garden are perhaps some of the best Dorset gas to offer. Only a few minutes off of the A35 and you are in a different world. Good walking area with easy (albeit with a good climb) up to Eggardon Hill. This is one of my favourite areas in the county. read more
