What an awesome find and just an hour or so from Halifax. It's only open from May (for the…read moredelightful restaurant) until the end of blueberry picking in September. And it's well worth marking it in your calendar for a wonderful day trip. The restaurant has a fabulous menu - you must try the blueberry poppyseed dressing - on a salad, or chicken - like the smoked chicken quesedilla. They even have a children's menu. But our little ones were too little (not to mention messy) to eat in their beautiful dining room. Not a problem though. There are picnic tables just outside right next to a Koy pond and some of the gazillion blueberry bushes where you can take out a sandwich or bring your own picnic. And speaking about blueberries. This pick-your-own farm is so big, they actually have a big, air conditioned bus to take you around to the best spots to pick and then collects you after you fill up your buckets.

The mains were good but my Salmon was a bit overcooked and the Scallops were good but really didn't stand out. The biggest disappointment on the mains was the vegetable stir fry. It was bland and pretty tasteless. I would have preferred to just have some fresh beans steamed. The service was great and the setting is really wonderful. Unless it is really cold or windy I suggest you sit outside. Most people were sitting inside so we had the porch to ourselves and it was definitely the best seat in the house. Overall it is great but I would say that the mains are all almost exactly $10 overpriced. It was about $80 between two of us for appetizers, a main and splitting a desert. One of us also have a glass of wine.

There's not a tremendous amount to see or do in the shop but that's okay since you're much better off just taste-testing some delicious cheeses, or chowing down on a sweet and crispy waffle cone. Still, there is a little window you can peek through to see some of the machines put to use behind the scenes. And the cheeses? Well, take it from me, someone who manages to maintain 80% of his body weight through cheese and cheese alone, are fantastic...and abundant: tons of spiced and smoked goudas (Italian herb, herb and garlic, jalapeno, cumin), fresh curds for homemade poutine (danger...), and even fetas and little known German styles that can act as a substitute for cream cheese! Lactose-intolerants beware. This is probably not the place for you.

I dropped in here a week ago and ordered the Mediterranean panini sandwich without onion. It seemed…read moreto be an easy order. When it came, the side was listed on the menu as vegetables. I got three slim Julien slices of carrot. Nothing to really complain about, also nothing to write home about either. Getting to the sandwich, I had one bite and immediately spit it into a napkin. I opened it and it was filled with green peppers. The waitress came by and I asked why the green peppers, the menu states "sweet bell peppers". I asked for red or green peppers and she took it away to fix the sandwich. They didn't give me a new sandwich, they picked off the green peppers and replaced them with red peppers. It was not great as it was no longer hot, but edible. I had some difficulty eating as I couldn't get the image of someone's fingers picking out the green peppers. Here is the kicker, while I was waiting for the disassembly and reassembly of my sandwich the manager came by with a menu. She pointed out the sandwich comes with bell peppers and green peppers are bell peppers. Although that is on it's face true. The menu states "sweet bell peppers ". This clearly refers to ripe bell peppers as red, orange and yellow that are ripe and sweet. Contrasting this is the green bell peppers as that is bitter or sharp it it's flavour and liked by those that prefer this bitterness. The manager was simply demonstrating she didn't know or care enough to know the difference between the menu and the substitution of green peppers. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
