This is a new-ish edition to Kingston... meaning it has only been here for a couple of years. It's a sit down coffee shop built into an old house. The set-up is a bit odd and you have to walk through tables of people eating to get to the take-out counter. All food and pastries are cooked/baked in-house using good old fashioned ingredients (flour, butter, sugar, milk) so there are no extras that you usually find in cafe foods (e.g. corn syrup, soy solids, and those suspicious "natural flavours"). This is great for my daughter who has a corn allergy. As for the coffee... they have espresso based drinks: lattes, cappuccinos. For non-dairy they use Pacific brand almond and soy milk; this is the best for making non-dairy based drinks because it's not too sweet and doesn't fall apart when steamed (the soy tastes just like milk). My latte was decent but not exceptional because the barista overheated the soy milk. I struggled with this rating and waffled between a 3-star/4-star. I settled with a "4-star" rating because this is the best espresso based coffee you are going to get in the Valley outside of Wolfville and the people who work here are really sweet.

Great service, coffee was ok, food was good. Reason for 3 stars is it is a cafe so coffee should be high quality coffee.

We wanted to like this spot. Sadly, food quality was below average, portion size is tiny, and pricing is outrageous.

Our Americano and latte were exactly as we hoped. If you have time to linger, go upstairs and sit on one large leather couches. We met some native Nova Scotians and never felt rushed. There's nothing fancy at this place, and to be honest if I'm going to a fish & chip spot, that's what I want to see. The service was good, and three orders were served in less than 10 minutes after order. The staff here were fantastic - very funny and down to earth. I suppose it's what you come to expect from the smaller, mom & pop type restaurants here in Nova Scotia! The food was great. The fish was fresh, and the fries were home made. The fish wasn't fried in a heavy batter, which I found refreshing. It flaked apart and was certainly a fair size. I ordered the special of the day, which included their battered haddock and scallops with fries. I can say that the scallops were also delicious, deep friend in the same batter as the haddock. I'm not very big on the type of fries that this type of restaurant typically serves because I feel that they're overly saturated with oil. I had the same feeling here, but I know more people enjoy this type of fry as opposed to the ones at a fast food spot. If you're one of these people, and you enjoy seafood, then I'm sure you would absolutely love it here. To note: This place serves only Coke, not Pepsi. But, they serve it in the way it was meant to be served: in the glass bottle. I thought this was a great touch, especially for a classic fish & chips joint.

It's your standard Eggs Benny sandwiched between two thick slices of homemade bread (your choice of white, whole wheat or multigrain - no less!) and a bowl of some of the tastiest Hollandaise I've found in the past few months. All tucked away in an unassuming, down-home diner in Port Williams - a quick drive from downtown Wolfville! More people need to know about this! Four tables covered in business cards of diners-gone-by are set up in a space about the size of a loading elevator surrounded by antiques and collectibles of all kinds including a very important sign: 'Patience required as good food takes time to prepare.' Why so important? Well, there's only one person cooking back there. ONE. If she doesn't make it, you're not eating it. It makes for consistently hearty and satisfying meals, but it does increase your wait time. Portions are HUGE (actually, the burgers border on obscene...), everything is made fresh on site, and the prices are more than affordable considering what you get! And on that note, hit up an ATM at the corner store next door since it's all cash only!

Even when it was only half full we overhead the waitress welcoming new customers with "We will get to you as soon as we can". The waits weren't long, and the food was great! I rediscovered the origins of hash browns in their culturally authentic Acadian grated potato pancakes - the size of a Frisbee. Crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Lots of potato flavour! The middle sized breakfast was huge - eggs, bacon, home fries and great homemade bread. Annnd - one can substitute the potato pancakes for home fries!!!! Unfortunately it can't get a 5 star because they were seen reusing the homemade jam from the individual servings - scrape the top, smooth it out and add more to the top. As much as I encourage good economics of not throwing out tons of jam - this isn't a great practise:-( So, I leave it to your judgement - food great, space small, cash only and great prices. I hope they survive and thrive in Port Williams.
