It's a shame the guy before us had such a poor experience. I can't help thinking there must be more to the story.
In any case, we had a fabulous experience when we visited on the first weekend in March. My wife and I went to Hailey for a weekend get away, and had a great time. The owner does have a teenage daughter, but she and her friends were polite and friendly. Otherwise, they were virtually invisible.
We found the Spruce Inn to be warm, comfortable, and "homey." It kind of felt like we were visiting a long-time friend or family. I was impressed by the way the owner related to all eight guests. She created an environment that was casual and unassuming. The flat-screen TV and pool table in the common area helped to serve that purpose.
Our room was clean and cozy, but didn't feel starched and bleached. (My wife often has reservations about sleeping between the sheets in hotel rooms, but never had concerns at the Spruce.) The breakfasts were were amazing! They proved to be conversation starters between guests each morning. The owner generously shared the recipes with us. :o) The complimentary wine and gourmet caramel apple, were tasty touches to the weekend, too!
I would HIGHLY recommend the Spruce Inn to travelers or Treasure Valley folks looking for a quick escape. I know the three other couples that were there on the same weekend, plan to return in the summer - So do we! This B & B is a perfect place for couples and/or family groups.
By the way, for a more extensive review of the Spruce Inn, I would suggest checking out TripAdvisor. The reviews we read there appear to be right on the mark. read more
