Sometimes the best adventures involve an unexpected stop for breakfast. And sometimes that…read morebreakfast involves a sticky bun so good that you immediately start questioning why you don't eat more sticky buns. While passing through McAlisterville on our way to another adventure, my adventure buddy and I found ourselves hungry and looking for breakfast. A quick internet search led us to Bread of Life Restaurant, a family-owned establishment that's been serving home-cooked comfort food since 2003. The photos looked promising, so we decided to give it a shot! We arrived around 10:30am on a Friday morning, and goodness, was this place busy! There were still tables available, but plenty of folks were enjoying breakfast and conversation. Clearly, we weren't the only ones who thought this was a good place to start the day. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with a relaxed, community-oriented feel. We settled in and started investigating the menu. First order of business? A sticky bun with walnuts. To share. This was non-negotiable. And it may have been the best decision we made all morning! Our sticky bun arrived warm and already cut in half, thoughtfully served on two separate plates. I absolutely loved that little touch! No awkward cutting or negotiating over who got the bigger half. Just two happy people with their own portions of sticky bun. And was it good! Perfectly soft, perfectly sweet and generously adorned with walnuts. Easily one of the best sticky buns I've had in quite a while. We were off to an excellent start! Next came the actual breakfast decisions. I'd been craving scrapple, but unfortunately, our server explained they'd been out of it for about a week. Well, shoot. So much for that plan! Fortunately, there were plenty of other options, and I quickly pivoted to scrambled egg whites, sausage and sourdough toast. My adventure buddy ordered two dippy eggs, bacon, rye toast and a tall glass of milk. When our food arrived, everything looked wonderful. Hearty portions, beautifully cooked bacon and sausage, perfectly toasted bread and eggs prepared just the way we'd ordered them. Now, breakfast isn't necessarily complicated, but I've visited enough restaurants to know that some places still manage to get it wrong. Bread of Life is NOT one of those places! Everything was delicious, satisfying and exactly what we wanted from a good, home-cooked breakfast. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, checking in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. And the best part? Our entire breakfast, including that glorious sticky bun, came to around $25! Two full bellies, a wonderful breakfast and a very reasonable bill. That's my kind of adventure fuel! Bread of Life has a Christian-themed atmosphere and a menu filled with traditional comfort food, including plenty of lunch and dinner options. I can't personally speak to those meals, but based on our breakfast experience, I'd certainly be interested in returning to investigate. If you're traveling through McAlisterville and looking for a hearty, reasonably priced breakfast in a friendly, welcoming environment, Bread of Life is absolutely worth considering. And whatever you order, do yourself a favor and get the sticky bun with walnuts. Trust me on this one. We came in hungry, left happy and headed off to our next adventure with full bellies and absolutely no regrets. Well, except maybe not ordering a second sticky bun for the road!

What a gem! We stopped by Sowers Harvest Café for breakfast and were genuinely impressed…read more Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Greek omelet was light, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The Pesto-Port Egg Sandwich was simple but absolutely delicious with a perfectly cooked egg and great pesto. The Balsamic Garden Avocado Toast was as beautiful as it was tasty, with fresh ingredients, creamy goat cheese, pickled onions, and a rich balsamic glaze. The Spicy Mango Sriracha grilled naan was incredibly unique--the sweet and spicy combination worked perfectly. The fresh-baked pretzels are a must-try! We took home several varieties, and they were warm, soft, and some of the best we've had. Even the latte and biscotti were excellent. On top of the amazing food, watching the staff handcraft and bake the giant pretzels right behind the counter added to the experience. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and the service was fast despite the café being busy. If you're in State College, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Fresh ingredients, creative menu, outstanding baked goods, and genuinely kind people. We'll definitely be back!

Rolled into Mechanicsburg Breakfast & Pizzeria at the extremely conventional breakfast hour…read moreof...5pm on a Friday. I was the only diner in the place, which honestly made me feel like I had just rented out a private pizza studio. Bonus: plenty of free parking right out front because it's tucked into a little strip mall. Before I even ordered, the menu caught my attention--an eclectic mashup of pizza and tacos, with breakfast versions of both served all day long. It's honestly the kind of menu you'd expect to stumble upon in a dream where the universe says, "Go ahead, choose joy." I originally planned to be "responsible" and just grab a slice to test the waters, but they didn't have any slices ready and would've had to make an entire pizza just for me. That felt like a sign from the Universe to stop lying to myself. If they were firing up the oven anyway, why not go big? So I took the cosmic hint and ordered their semi-Instagram-famous Mexican Breakfast Pizza: eggs, chorizo, mozzarella, cheddar... a 10" "personal" pizza (their wording, not mine) for $14. Twist my arm. Drinks live in the cooler by the door and you just grab whatever you want and pay at the end. As I was mid-debate between soda and water, the guy behind the counter popped out from behind the curtain and said, "Hey, since you're getting a breakfast pizza, if you want juice... orange, cranberry, apple... you can have it!" Sir. Apple juice is basically the secret key to my heart. SOLD. He also mentioned they have games and coloring books available--apparently dominoes is the crowd favorite here. Unexpected and charming. A little sign on my table caught my eye: "If you love it, leave a nice review." Challenge accepted. This place was already earning every star. Placed my order at 5:02, snagged a seat by the window to watch the sunset fade and the traffic chaos whirl by. The sign on the wall said "GOOD vibes, GREAT flavors," and let me tell you: an accurate mission statement. At 5:20, my pizza emerged in all its glory--and it. was. stunning. The crust hit that sweet middle ground between thin and deep dish: sturdy, doughy, beautifully crisped on the edges, and wonderfully yeasty. The eggs-to-cheese ratio was perfection, and the chorizo? A knockout. Spicy, chunky, far more personality than the usual breakfast-pizza sausage situation. I ate 1.5 slices and boxed up the rest, which will easily feed me for another three days because, yes, I believe in leftovers as a lifestyle. As I was leaving, the man behind the counter introduced himself--Sebastian--and he had been nothing but attentive, kind, and genuinely invested in making sure I had a great experience. Service like that sticks with you. Total damage: $22.26 including tip. For great food, even better service, and days of leftovers? That's what I call winning. I'll definitely be back--probably at another totally normal breakfast hour.

Order at the counter and your food is brought out promptly. The owner made sure everything was good and kept asking if I needed anything. Making customers feel important is, well, important, so I'm glad they aim to please. Pizza slice was really good, could've been a bit more well done, but that's my preference. The birria quesadilla and (thick) consommé were out of this world excellent. Can't wait to come back and have that again and try some other dishes. All day breakfast is cool and a nice option to have in this area. Try this place and see for yourself.
