My experience working at this facility was extremely disappointing. I worked in the Gardens memory care unit as part of the Activities Department. Unfortunately, the culture here is rooted in favoritism rather than professionalism. Many employees have been there for years and are resistant to change, which allows ongoing issues to go unaddressed. Advancement and accountability seem to depend more on personal relationships than performance.
The Activities Director lacked professionalism, organization, and effective leadership. Communication within the department was poor, expectations were unclear, and known performance issues among staff were ignored. Instead of fostering teamwork, unnecessary drama was allowed to continue, creating a stressful and disorganized work environment. Despite these issues, no corrective action was taken due to tenure.
The memory care unit itself was concerning. The environment was often dirty and poorly maintained, which was upsetting given the vulnerability of the residents. While there were a few kind individuals, many staff members appeared disengaged, frequently on their phones, selective about who they assisted, and often unapproachable. This directly impacted the quality of care.
The Memory Care Director was kind but lacked the authority or support needed to effectively manage the team, which resulted in staff not respecting leadership and operating without structure.
After reaching my limit, I submitted my resignation. The following day, I was told not to return and was asked to turn in my keys after expressing concerns about lack of communication and support. This felt retaliatory. Employees are required to sign an at will employment agreement upon hire, and combined with the extremely high turnover rate, this should be viewed as a major red flag.
In my observation, employees who tolerate unprofessional behavior tend to stay long term, while those who care about improvement, accountability, and quality of care are pushed out. This facility is filled with unnecessary drama and poor leadership, and I would not recommend it to anyone seeking a supportive, respectful, and professional workplace. read more
