Initially, the majority of the staff were great, but as the pandemic improved, many of the good staff left. One problem did persists throughout the experience - a loss of personal items (clothes, bedding, telephone, diapers, wipes, etc.); items were labeled and yes, it was reported to management. Replacing these items became a cost of doing business. As my relative's needs increased, the signs of neglect and/ abuse via negligence began to surface. Also, if you decide to not heed this warning, pay close attention to medications prescribed by their medical staff to prevent overmedicating and/or prescription charges for medicines not taken. Despite my unflattering review, there were still a handful of remarkably, caring staff members that I wish I could clone. Unfortunately, these great people were put in terribly understaffed situations, or paired with the bad staff members. Unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good. I pray my review doesn't impact the good people. Staff that need to be under a microscope: -Front desk women, first initial A. rudest of the rude. -Director of Health, first initial N. -3rd floor Supervisor, first initial S. -Facility Director, first initial S. I'm sure the above staff have been put in terrible situations by their corporate leaders, but where is the humanity. This a business that holds human life in its hands; If you don't care about people, find another profession. With the exception of the front desk women, the others are in positions expected to monitor, inspect daily operations. I get the impression the corporate owner/leaders simple wants to keep raking in money, while spending the absolute least (for adequate staffing levels, nutritious food, etc.). After the first week, I spoke with the Assistant Executive Director and she reassured me that the check was in route and had been personally put in the mail by a staff member. The Assistant Executive Director stated that she was sorry to hear about the delay and would check the tracking of the check. Now, entering week two, there is no check nor update from the office. Conveniently when calls and voicemails are left to inquire about an update, no one is available and no one returns messages. Very very very disappointed in not only the treatment my mother faced but also the lack of professionalism in handling disputes and settling debts. UPDATE: It seems as if every time a review is written, that is when things get done at Woodholme Gardens. This place is notorious for not taking calls or returning them either. In regard to Shawn's reply, there were no calls made to me. The facility has my cellphone and has made frequent calls to my number in the past so there is no reason for calling my work number regarding a refund. Why not just call the cellphone number from the beginning? Once this review was written, the refund check was received the next day. On May 2nd (Thursday) a call was placed to my personal cell informing me that the refund check was issued and would be locked in a safe due to the persons absence from the office for the remaining of the week. On Monday, May 6th, I was told the check was actually MAILED out on Thursday! The same day I was told it would be placed in a safe. There was no time to pick it up. We waited patiently for 2 weeks and nothing came in the mail. Ironically, the check was released the day following my review of Woodholme. Long story short, this company is bad to do business with. The caregivers and on hand staff are awesome and loving. The Executives, not so much. Bad moral ethics and unfortunately gives everyone else a bad rep.

I have thought about this review for months since I didn't want the anger I felt when I moved my…read morehusband out of Arden Courts Pikesville in February, 2017 to be the only thing I expressed in this review. My husband was in ACP for 26 months. For the first 20 or 21 months things went pretty smoothly and I thought the place was acceptably well-run. But then, things started to go badly....and finally, things there were so bad that I needed to move him out of there. The facility was neither clean nor well-maintained. But more than anything - - and the reason I ultimately moved my husband out, was because of poor management which led to miserable in-house communications, which adversely affected resident care. There was also poor staff morale. I had multiple conversations with staff members who complained about the way things were run and felt that they weren't listened to. That pervades the culture in the place. Nursing staff followup and communications were awful and the lack of follow-through by other departments (like PT) was incomprehensibly bad. For example, I discovered that physical therapy that had been authorized in late December, 2016 had not ever been implemented in February, 2017. In fact, nursing staff wasn't even aware that PT had been authorized even though I'd received emails confirming the authorization. That was only one example of many. Eldercare, like childcare, is an area that requires trust and faith on the part of the family who are trusting a facility with the care of their family member. By the time someone requires residential memory care, he or she can no longer advocate for him/herself. During the 2+ years my husband had been there, things declined precipitously at Arden Courts, Pikesville, until I no longer felt he was safe or well cared for. I transferred him to another facility (not one of the Arden Courts chain since I was quite soured by the experience) and have been so pleased with the change. What a difference this has made in my husband's life and mine.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Noely and Diamond, both of whom took the opportunity and time out of their busy day to meet with me and acclimate me to the services Autumn Lake provides. Noely asked detailed questions regarding my mom and her needs which was greatly appreciated. I was met with such warmth, kindness, and patience from the team. This facility is OUTSTANDING and the lobby mirrors a hotel. My sincerest apologies team. I could've saved you all time by advising that my mom required hemodialysis, but it was such a pleasure meeting the three wonderful ladies. I can tell that they are passionate about their work and care. Noely took the time to reach out to a sister facility that could accommodate my mom's needs and I am forever grateful. She gave me such reassurance which is invaluable for caregivers. I would encourage anyone in need of care for a loved one to come in and visit this facility.

I'm sad and frustrated to provide a one-star review for The Courts of Avalon Apartments. While I…read moreenjoyed living at the complex during 2023, I insist on posting such a low review primarily due to the concerning attitudes, poor communication, and severe mismanagement exhibited by the property managers. This review is a warning to potential tenants about the negatives of this complex, with some positives to balance it out. While the apartment itself was satisfactory at best, the overall experience was marred by an unresponsive and uncooperative management team. Let's start with the perks. The garage is nice, location is great, and I loved the fireplace in the winter. However, more negative aspects of this complex are overshadowing of the positive ones. Attempting to contact management proved to be a difficult task on its own from the beginning. I recall that our scheduled tour in December 2022 was delayed, which should have been a sign that management was not Avalon's strongest domain and one that begs for improvement. During my lease term, I found communication with management was practically non-existent. The only way to truly get in touch with anyone is to stop by the office, which isn't always convenient if you work full-time like me. Repair requests regularly went unanswered (some for weeks or months), or would be closed without having actually done any repairs. At one point, I just gave up. The best example I can share is upon moving in, where I was delighted to have a brand-new sleek refrigerator. I noticed immediately after installation that the ice-maker didn't make ice (it really had one job). I figured maybe they forgot to attach the water line? I'm still not sure. Despite multiple attempts at getting it fixed with maintenance requests, it never worked. I sadly I never got to enjoy the luxury of ice on demand, but as is life at the Courts of Avalon. The most recent and frustrating issue occurred only after I had left the apartment and concerns the withholding of my security deposit. Per the lease agreement, the management is obligated to provide a written list of damages claimed and the associated costs within forty-five (45) days after the termination of the lease. As tomorrow (01/23/2024) marks the 45th day since my lease termination, I have not received any such notice, despite numerous emails requesting more information. A family member of mine (who co-signed the lease) inquired about the status of the $500 security deposit earlier today, and was met with an unsatisfactory response. The property manager insists that the 45-day period following my tenancy excludes weekends. To my severe distress, I cannot seem to find the clause or subsection where this is stated, after hours of carefully re-reading our binding document. Regardless, the lease agreement states that I was required to submit my intent to renew my contract within the 60-days prior to the termination of the least agreement. To my confusion, however, the renewal offer letter was dated 10/16/23, 54 days before my move-out date. The lease stipulates that I would be given notice of rent increases or lease changes at least 5 days before this 60-day mark! Now, I do take responsibility for not responding on exactly 60-days, but I provided my response the following day from receiving the letter with the new offer (on 10/17/23). How would I have been able to even determine if I could renew my lease if I didn't have the new rate? And if we aren't counting weekends regarding the 45-day period after I move out, I'm sure we can do the same thing with the 60-days before, right? Also, the best part of the renewal letter is that I would've had to contact the office 6 days before the letter is even dated to take advantage of the new rates (oof, now that's a little embarrassing). Lastly, the mismanagement extended to the move-out process. Despite my multiple attempts to schedule a move-out inspection, I received no concrete response from The Courts of Avalon. On my official move-out date (12/9/23), I expected a thorough inspection with a member of Avalon management as per the lease agreement in several paragraphs. When our loosely agreed upon time had come (11am sharp), I waited in the office for about an hour. Due to the property manager being unavailable, I was eventually asked to film the apartment myself on my phone and send it over email. Now, this is clearly a deviation from the agreed-upon and legally-binding process, which also states that a "failure to comply with the security deposit law may result in us (Courts of Avalon) being liable to you (me) for a penalty of up to three (3) times the security deposit withheld, plus reasonable attorney's fees." I spent hours cleaning the apartment in anticipation of receiving as much of the deposit back as possible. https://youtu.be/NWS9iJL2-28?si=GTiMiu1YxqaNCzc-
